Good price. Shame that Razor mice immediately tries to install bloatware as soon as you plug it in.

Does that like a massive security blackhole? You'd be absolutely correct and shown to be exploitable. So.. no more Razor for me.

    • No more Razor for me either

    • Hi Jikx, can this auto bloatware loader be circumvented/uninstalled? or, is it just best to avoid any product with this type of behaviour?

      • +4

From memory I had to do ensure windows auto driver install was disabled (it periodically renables itself after a windows update) and had to find the razor install .exe it keeps wanting to execute and replacing it with a 0 byte .exe file and making it read only.

My essential mouse finally died after 1.5 years (another wtf - never had happen to a mouse so soon before). So.. strike 2. Back to logitech.

Thanks, I think I will avoid Razor.

@Sinnerator: The security vulnerability was patched long ago and it was partially Razor's fault but also Microsoft's fault. I don't use Razer products anymore because the branding is just kinda cringe and I prefer Logitech's G pro super light but for $26 I would definitely recommend the death adder for someone on a budget. The keyboards were fine I think I only ever had membrane keyboards when I got them from Razer. Uninstalling the bloatware is easy enough 6 minutes (uninstall via control pannel and delete a few residuals it shouldn't reinstall) you don't have to do what Jikx was saying or you can just disable on start up and you'll never notice it aside from ~200mb disappearing I guess

you don't have to install the software

      just say no to installation

  • Razer Kiyo X vs Razer Kiyo X Pro?

    • The Kiyo alone is pretty good, if youre looking for just a camera to stream with or for meetings than its fine already. It has its own lightbar and adjustable light through the app. Which the razer app is trash. The pro is a decent step up in quality and films in 60fps. I would probably wait for the pro to go on sale though, i think you could get better ones for that price point. Especially the logitech ones.

The main reason why i hesitate on the razer webcams is because I've owned the kiyo for 2 years now. Webcam apps would work great with it, and all of a sudden it stopped working. It'll still work as a basic camera, but i cant use it for anything else but the razer app. So if i want to use the nvidia broadcast to blur out my background, it just wont and then crash. Not a deal breaker, but the support has been really subpar.

      • Thanks, does your kiyo still work with Zoom app?
I like the Pro, but doesn't go on sale often.

The $100 logitech below would be better than the kiyo non pro?

        • Yeah it still works fine for anything else, but i just cant use it through anything else. So i can use it as the direct source, but i cant use it through broadcast and then zoom. The mic quality is fine… not amazing… just fine.

I would say that kiyo pro is still a bit better, just more fps and quality, but its also like 50$ more expensive, so it depends on purpose. The logitech is fine for really anything, but i personally feel like you dont need a kiyo pro unless youre an established streamer looking for the next step up in quality.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed two of the white DeathAdder Essentials for my daughters for extra Christmas presents.

    Deathadder coming up $36

  • Does anyone know if this one is mouse only or mouse with dock? https://www.amazon.com.au/Razer-AU-Viper-Ultimate-RZ01-03050…

    • has dock

Just wanted to let OP know that the Razer Viper Ultimate w/ dock is cheaper at Centrecom for $118. Not a historic low but still better than Amazon’s current price.

  • Got the death adder a few months ago, it squeaks and the plastic flexes on the sides. Won't buy Razer again.

If you like small light mice I recommend the Orochi v2, I prefer it to the g305 and even superlight.

  • White ones OOS

Good price for the Razer Tartarus Pro if you're one of those weirdos who who use a Tartarus for mmo's like myself. The dpad buttons still get stuck down due to a software error in Synapse, which you can get around using 3rd party keyboard mapping software such as rewasd, but then rewasd could be considered cheating by a lot of anti-cheat software so I wouldn't recommend for online use just to be safe.

Also the dpad switches break pretty easily if you use the dpad as a dpad, but if you're handy with a soldering iron you can get replacement switches for ~$1 each off of aliexpress.

I wish Razer would just fix their software already, and use different switches in the dpad, but so far they won't even admit the first issue exists, and good luck getting a hardware revision on a niche product like this.

  • Viper Mini is $35 right now as well. Don't need it but picked one up anyway!

  • I just bought another Razer mouse because the old one was dying (not that old even, but double clicking on single clicks already).

I bought the same because I didn't want to have to re set up and get used to a new mouse DPI etc.

When I put the new one on, updated razer software, it has totally different sensitivity anyway. Razer are such over marketed garbage.

    • You can adjust the DPI.

  • The Barracuda X Wireless headset is also $9 cheaper than JB Hifi's sale.
