  • Anti theft screws can be requested (free of charge) in your near by police station.

The latest trick is to just use a printer and print out the plate you want and tape it to the vehicle. So I guess these stop opportunist thieves?

LOL @ the neggers. Prove me wrong? It was such a good deal that only 2 people upvoted it, but 4 of you bothered to neg me for pointing out how worthless these are for any "serious" thief to make off with your details.

It is literally the latest scam… There are numerous articles out there warning about it. These screws do nothing to deter people who print license plates out on a printer and they only stop people that are walking past from stealing them.

Why steal your plate when I can just go home, print it on a sheet of paper and stick it to my license plate, go get fuel, do a runner and remove the paper license around the corner in 5 seconds.

      Neg away, sheep.

Good initiative, but the cynic in me would think I'd rather they take the plates easily rather than damage the vehicle. I can easily get new plates should it happen.

  • Those screws are useless to pro thieves

I came here for this; was not disappointed.

Now just want an anti-theft sticker for my licence.

What happens if you need to take off the plates? Just damage your car? Great idea 👍

    • Police stations have a tool to remove them.

    • Buy the removal tool

      • and the thief wouldn't have this because….?

i'm amused that people think nothing about buying a screwdriver off aliexpress to open up their smart phones or macbook… but cheer at the same type of screws for their plates and think it'll somehow deter others.

        • Honestly I think it's about moving the problem onto the next person. Even if you just use a hex socket screw it might mean that you're less of a target just because they don't have the tools on hand.

If it was more common to have these screws, no doubt they'd all have the screwdriver that can take them off

          • @lancesta: thing is, if you are the thief, you would've come prepared (cordless drill..etc) because it's also the car model + colour/type that is tied to the plate they are targeting also.

            • @slowmo: Oh yeah good point. Was thinking of the simple take a plate and grab petrol kinda thing which can be done using any plate that matches.

  • Precision side-cutters like Lindstrom, would be able to grip the outer part of the screw head, assuming the screws are not hardened.
