F*ed up my old MFC brother printer trying to change the roller fuser so was time to pull the trigger on a new one and why not splurge on a color laser with duplex print and scan: MFC-L8690CDW.
Cheapest I've seen this model in the last 2 years. Was recently posted at $679 albeit a GGC membership is required for this purchase.

Solid printer have had this model for a while. Duplex scan is great and cheap non-genuine toner that looks absolutely fine. Also can sustain the weight of two large cats sitting on it at the same time.

Never thought home printer price would Gone up the office price level .
i was told when i went to check the brother laser printer that the reason they don't stock other laser brands is because they are being phased out. i purchased a tank printer and was amazed by the print quality. refills cost around 10-30 each as well. much cheaper than 500 for laser toner
I've had a Xerox laser printer for about 12 years. A drum change would be prohibitively expensive, but I purchased the unit for ~500. The toner cost is about 30 bucks. I've bought 2 spare of each colour and black over that time. Not sure where the 500 comes from.
brother printers can be fickle about using non genuine. gen carts are over 100 each.
non gen carts have a tendancy to also carry less toner in them to make them cheaper. i fell for that one with my old hp laser

i thought it was suss as well, but even officeworks have reduced the ones they were carrying. the companies apparently are trying to be more eco friendly.

The only thing suss is the actual person who came up with this BS. As for actually believing it…
It doesn't even make sense. Who's 'they'? Why 'other brands' and not Brother? 'Phased out' by 'them' or by manufacturers? And (standard) inkjets are certainly not more 'eco friendly'. Even if they were companies would not stop making/selling lasers.

$35 for such a large & heavy item isn't really that bad.
A true OzBargainer would click & collect anyway.
This is a good MFC and I have used this machine for a little more than 2 years.
Reliable and toner reset is easy to do :-)
