  • Wondering if there’s a difference between men’s vs women’s…reviews are great it seems

    • +3

Hit or miss really. Have to use it for life too.

      • -5

Not really, the gains are permanent if you use it long enough for the vellus hairs to transition and become terminal.

        • +7

if your hairs are sensitive to DHT, they will be sensitive for the rest of your life, this product helps minimise the appearance of this, but my understanding is that it isn't a cure, it's just putting off the inevitable for as long as you use it.

what you are talking about is using it to grow a beard, for which the evidence is.. patchy.

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: Unless you crash scalp DHT levels with a 5-AR inhibitor like Finasteride! Then Minoxidil is just a topical growth agent (which by itself yeah, won't do anything to prevent further recession and/or balding).

Finasteride to stop further balding, Minoxidil to encourage re-growth.

        • +1

Wrong, have to keep using it, same goes for Finasteride. As others have said, best results are when you use both in combination.

Do you keep your muscle if you stop doing weights, or tan if you stop doing to the solarium? I know not exactly the same thing, but incidentally also an image thing.

          • +2

@G-rig: simply not true. Finasteride has to be used indefinitely to remain efficacious, but Minoxidil can be used ‘as needed’ until the new vellus hairs transition and become terminal.

Yes and as I’ve said elsewhere in this thread, results are best when both are used. I use both with great success. How about yourself?

            • @Tight Tim: Fair enough, everyone is best off testing for themself YMMV as they say - I was agreeing that best to use both as well.

I've been on Finasteride for many years, cheap and very low effort. Got some min from eBay but never bothered with it. Maybe I should if you reckon only need to use initially (still 12 weeks to get any success apparently), still doesn't sound right though.

        • +1

Amusing to see all the down votes - likely from bald men coping.

As I explained elsewhere in this thread, Minoxidil itself will not stop further male pattern baldness (a 5-AR inhibitor like Finasteride is required for this). But if Minoxidil is used for long enough for vellus hairs to transition and become terminal, those hairs are considered permanent (again, assuming that any propensity for androgenic alopecia is thwarted by other means). Consider all the "Minox-beards" (yes, applying it to the face is a 'thing') that are permanent years after discontinuing use.

I've done my research, listened to the experts and managed to reverse a hard Norwood 2 back into my teenage hairline (preventing further damage with Finasteride and facilitating successful re-growth with Minoxidil).

          • +1

@Tight Tim: Wasn't me that downvoted btw.

Anyway I know that Fin has to be continued to keep the gains, it's very low maintenance & cheap, so no sweat there. just saying that personally, Min is too messy, expensive long term and too much faffing about to bother with. Happy with retaining hair just using Min (but was interested in Min for a brief moment, not enough to bother using it though. No worth drying out or irritating the skin/scalp).

    • I don't think there'd be any difference, outside of marketing/packaging (given the identical price and same 5% Minoxidil solution).

The "Men's" 60g can is a one month supply versus the "Women's" 60g can is a two months supply - however directions say for men to use twice a day. Given the half-life, I struggle to understand why this is the instruction.

    • -3

Same chemical, same results. Only difference may be the concentration.

Multivitamins all all marketed by gender but are almost the same. Male and female physiology is the same exact at the crotch.

      • Plus the chest.

      • +1

I don't think it's that simple, hormones are quite different.
why do men have deeper voices, why don't women grow as large (unless big boned lol)..

      • Not even remotely true.

      • +3

How often does your missus shave her beard?

  • How long does these 4 bottle last?

    • Supposed to be 4 months

  • Why this over say oral fin + min (pretty sure min is the active ingredient in this) and I believe it works out cheaper.

    • +1

Too many side effects with fin.

      • -4

None are really experienced in reality.

Min would be messy and too much effort, expensive and can't imagine people keeping it up forever (any gains are lost as soon as you stop).

        Just get a piece lol.
        https://youtu.be/eYSgk2oC3-s

      • +2

Nope. Been using fin for 14 years and nothing. Know a couple of people using for years also woth no side effects. Its extremely rare to get "those kind" of side effects from it. The minority are always the loudest.

        • What sort of dosage do you get this in? Want to be fully armed with info when speaking to my GP but I've stumbled across Propecia, Finasta and Proscar and left myself well confused

          • +1

@MBix: Ask for 5mg tab and split into 4. Much cheaper, otherwise they'll give you a script for 1mg tabs.
(so 4 months is $30 for splitting the 5mg tabs, pretty cheap - generic finasteride, chemist warehouse).

          • @MBix: Yes 1mg tablets. They write you a script for Propecia. Which is sometimes $90. But at the chemist you say you want the genetic version and the give you 1mg Finasteride tablets for about $14-$22 i think. Depends on where you go.

      • +1

Min has side effects too, i tried it and suffered heart palpitations.

I ended up doing PRP injections and had some success with that treatment.

      • +2

for me, after 6 months it started giving me gyno symptoms so i stopped it. I'd rather be bald then have moobs

        • +2

Sure it's not just fat - beer and chicken gives you that but people aren't worried?

Agree, blade 1 easy just do that

      • Thanks for the neg smh.

Never experienced any side effects, as do most people. Fin is very cheap, get a script for the 5mg tab and cut into quarters. $30/box does about 4 months.

Instead of parroting what you read on the net how about getting a script and try it for yourself for a month or two. You can easily stop if any side effects.

I got some Min from eBay but never really bothered. It gets on your fingers and everything you touch, didn't think it is worth the effort, maybe once a day at night is more practical.

Easier to just shave ya head, hair is just an accessory and not a good look trying to cling onto it. Low maintenance is a good benefit.

        • +1

Number 2 cut master race reporting in.

I walk out of the ocean and im good to go in one dramatic flick. Bed hair? I laugh at thee. Wind? Embrace it.

          • @[Deactivated]: Just easier and no fuss, less vanity and time money, effort

          • @[Deactivated]: Number 2 is pretty long. Do you have balding or just by choice?

            • +1

@ChadHominem: Not fully balding, but not the best hairline thanks to the family tree. Decided to send it full statham.

    • If you invest min it'll make all hair on your body grow (Im pretty sure this is right) and you should be combining with oral fin other wise you're not fixing anything as your hair will still be succumbing to male pattern baldness

    • True that Finasteride is the real difference maker, but isn't Regaine the cheapest way to get Minoxidil in Australia?

      • +3

No when i used to use it i found kirkland Minoxidil the cheapest. Easily get it online.

        • Thanks mate, I'll look into this.

  • +2

It does work. Used it since 2017 until recently. Hairfall has started again.

    • Wonder why stopped if it was working?
I'm guessing you much effort, mess and cost.

  • +30

I've been using this to help grow some patches around my head and in addition a thicker mo and beard and surprisingly there has been good results.

Thanks OP, time to stock up on more.

FYI for everyone, this does take a lot of time and persistence to see results. You will also see some hair fall out before new ones start growing so dont be concerned initially.

You also should combine it with a dermaroller , vtimains to supplement your gains and regular exercise. I found weight lifting increased Testosterone levels the most.

But in having said the above genetics also plays a role in how much you can grow too.

    • +13

Wow , why am i getting negged for giving some feedback on how I have been using the product?

Dick move to who ever negged me.

    • +7

      doesn't testosterone increase hairloss?

      • +1

It does if you exhibit high levels of it. I have read up that people with high testosterone still grow significant facial hair and kept their hair intact by treating it properly

However I increased it enough to aid my facial hair growth.

Obviously each person is different so you will need to consult a specialist and trial and error for what works best for yourself.

      • +1

Not necessarily, it's too much testosterone converting into DHT that does. This is why Finasteride (which inhibits DHT serum on the scalp) is the most effective way to combat MPB.

    • in addition a thicker mo and beard

You put it on your face?

      • +1

        You can.

Regain is pretty much Minodxidil which many men have been using to increase facial hair growth however everyone has different reactions to it. So do your research and test the product first before going full steam.

Only side effects I have experienced is dryness to the skin but i combat it with moisturizer.
But make sure you stop using if it causes you issues of major concern.

Theres been many people who have used it with good results but you will need to do your own research before proceeding.

Took me a good half year reading into it and seeing people showing their results over time before i took the plunge.

  • +1

Queue the this doesn't work on my completely bald head comments

    • +1

"Rogaine is most effective for people who start using it at the first signs of hair loss. It won't help people who've already gone completely bald."

So in otherwords if you see signs of baldness, act now before its too late.
Otherwise you will need to look into hair transplants.

And from what I have read they get your pubes and jab it into your scalp

      • +5

lmao not the pubes.. they take from the back of the head and move to the front.

        • +1

I watched a hair transplant video on YouTube once, and now they come up all the time and I just keep watching them. I am so unnecessarily educated in mens hair loss, the treatments, medications, the transplant types, the surgery process, it's ridiculous.

          • @sparkles: Haha, this is why it's best to watch off-topic videos on incognito. Regardless, you can tell YouTube you're not interested in this content anymore by clicking the menu button on the video and clicking "Not interested" or even "Don't recommend channel".

Although considering your unexpected knowledge, maybe you want to continue down this spiral and start a new career?

  • +3

Finasteride and Nizoral 2% shampoo (Ketoconazole) .. is all you need. this crap is way to messy and expensive long term

    • Nizoral 2% shampoo (Ketoconazole) .. is all you need.

      What does Nizoral do ?

      • There is a lot of info on it online. Just google Ketoconazole and hair loss/male pattern baldness. Every 3 or 4 days leave Nizoral on your scalp for 10 or more minutes. Slows/stops your hairloss after a few uses. And if your taking Finasteride you can stop Nizoral after a few months or keep on going with it. The point is Minoxidil is pointless.

      • It's not like min/fin instead it clears your scalp and stops inflammation, which is actually a side effect of dht. So yes it helps but it's not going to be a big deal unless you have scaling/flaking/inflammation etc.

        • Isn't scaling / flaking just dandruff ?

          • @[Deactivated]: Says it's for dandruff on the CW description

            • @G-rig: If that's the case then just use head & shoulders at 1/4 the price

              • @[Deactivated]: No need, I don't have dandruff.
Better off using natural shampoo not that crap anyway, stinks and full of chemicals.

              • @[Deactivated]: Because that does not work for everyone. The reason people use nizoral is because it has ketoconazole ingredient which is quite effective.

    • Agreed, not practical.

  • +2

I haven't noticed anything in 6 months on hairline, but when I started using topical Finasteride I started growing little hairs.

Oral Finasteride had too many sides for me.

    • Did you use a foam or liquid base Finasteride ?

      • Liquid, I get alot of fakey skin! I'm gonna buy foam and switch over

        • You should.

I used Liquid forms before and it dries up the skin so much more than Foam.

I also found Foam absorbs more evenly and quicker too.

    • +2

How/where do you get the tropical fin? I never heard of them

      • Curious as well

      • +4

        Irak - FIN25
        Check eBay

  • +4

$82 is too much for ozb so headed kmart for clipper
    worth a investment ;)

    • +1

Better off doing that, 30$ for some good Wahl clippers is cheaper than one haircut.. not bald but started doing it during lockdown and it's very easy & low maintenance. Save on hair products and time.

  • Thanks OP.

I bought some with this deal but they never sent me the cash back. Current deal is better because you get the saving right away.

  • -4

Let it grow, let it grow.
    Can't bald it back anymore

  • +1

Does this work on the chest as well? I would like to grow some chest hair.

    • +1

Use it as mouth wash too if you want a hairy tongue. Also try for a hairy ass. Helps retain shit

    • probably. people find their hands get hairier if they apply it with them.

  • I like this one better, less mess and easy to get to the scalp with the dropper. https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/68714/regaine-men-s-…

    • I initially got this but i found it dried the skin a lot more than the foam one.

      • Thats strange I didnt encounter that problem before using the topical treatment.

        • side effects differ for each person.

    • Or you could get more in the generic one with the dropper and only pay $19

  • Really wish I could use this, noticed my hair has been getting a bit thinner around the crown. Shame I got cats.

    • Start using it asap before your hair falls out as a preventative especially if hair loss is hereditary.

      • it's toxic to cats, he can't really use it safely

        • Oh didnt realise that it is toxic to cats even a few licks can be deadly it seems.

          • +1

@Bangerbargain: yep. had a look just now, you can use it if you own cats, you just have to be very careful, make sure they can't access the room it's in, make sure they don't touch you while you still have it on your body, make sure you clean the area you wash it off in, so that there is no cross contamination if someone else uses the bathroom and accidentally gets some on them.

i read about some people who actually applied it to treat their cats hair loss, 1 drop was enough to kill them

          • @Bangerbargain: I had no idea, I have a few cats.

I don't know how they'd lick it? I spose they could lick my hairline or my pillow?

    • +1

Try Finasteride. I know quite a few people who wished they started using it when their hair started falling out and didnt wait to start years later.

  • Can confirm Finasteride works - at least for me (n=1). No hair loss whatsoever over the last few years. I'm glad I did it early. Not sure why you would muck around with Regaine unless you experience side effects with the former.

    • Where do you buy the Fin?

    • +1

Because whilst Finasteride will inhibit scalp DHT and halt further balding/recession, it won't necessarily encourage re-growth like Minoxidil will.

  • I've been using the Kirkland topical one, orally. I've had great results with just a few drops under the tongue daily, but don't do this of course, could be dangerous, I'm not a doctor, etc etc.

    • +2

Minoxodil is an arterial vaossodilator. Don't take it orally.

      • We removed most natural selection methods. For the love of god please dont take this one away from us as well. The morons are required to vote.

        • We removed most natural selection methods.

Like barriers, pathetic speed limits and all the other shenanigans for the mentally challenged? That's probably why you're still around. Lucky you don't live in a third world country where basic thinking is required.

      • They produce an oral version too, should people not take that? Serious question.

        • +1

I used the oral pill form one for about 4 months. Although it's way more convenient, I found it made me urinate so much I had to stop taking it and switch back to the drops. I almost peed myself in the car multiple times because I couldn't go for an hour.

        • +1

Oral version and topical version will always have other differences in ingredients responsible for things like consistency and aroma. You could be consuming poison

          • @ChadHominem: That's true. Thanks for posting something insightful other than "DuH nAtural selextion lOLz".

I did consider that and concluded a drop should be fine, the additives still get absorbed into the body even when applied topically.

  • CW are not very consisitent with their product description.
They describe OP's link as foam and measured in grams (4x 60g) and there's no mention of Minoxodil in the ingredients: Ethanol, Propellant (Hydrocarbon)

I think this is the same product but it's described as liquid and measured as 1x 60mL. This product also mentions Minoxidil in the ingredients: Each mL of solution contains minoxidil 50mg, ethanol, propylene glycol and purified water.
    https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/7395/regaine-men-s-e…

Is it better to use the foam or liquid

    • +1

in my experience, the liquid was hard to use whereas using foam was much more easier.
