Wait a few months for Motorola Edge Pro Ultra 40 5G 128GB with Fluid Peninsula™.

        • Haha nice.

        • Penisula?

        • Shut up and take my kidney.

Yeh pro max Ultra thin soft Edge looks more like names are inspired from condoms.

      • +4

Don't know why this comment is down voted, but 128gb with no option to expand is an issue for most users, you will run out of storage if you plan to keep the phone multiple years

        • +3

ozb hivemind. Depends on the target audience. It would be a good device for non-power users like kids or oldies

        • -5

Expandable storage is pretty much useless on Android these days. What are you storing locally anyway?

          • +5

@choodi: Why not? Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean everyone is like you.

            • +3

@xoom: Only thing you can store on it is media. What's the point in the age of streaming?

              • +1

@choodi: Yes if you have the quota to do so. And you have coverage.

                • @xoom: You can get 20GB+ for $25 or less, so quota shouldn't be a problem unless you are on some terrible plan. Coverage is less of a problem these days with wifi on planes and the ability to download media within apps like Netflix. 128GB stores a lot of music and movies.

                  • @choodi:

unless you are on some terrible plan.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

Coverage is less of a problem these days with wifi on planes and the ability to download media within apps like Netflix.

Less of a problem is not equal to not a problem at all. Not everyone has a netflix account.

128GB stores a lot of music and movies.

512GB microsd stores even more and you will never suffer buffering issues. No coverage. No problem.

                    TL;DR

not a problem for you doesn't mean not a problem for everyone else.

                    • +2

@xoom: A problem for you doesn't mean a problem for everyone else. I survived on 32/64GB for many years, let alone 128GB. My 21-year-old relative survived on 64GB for 5 years and just upgraded to 128GB a week ago only because that seems to be the minimum nowadays. For the price, I'm happy to stick with 128GB.

                      • +1

@craving: The point i was making is. If you can survive on 64GB. Then good for you. For everybody else that can't. Calling them a loser as choodi said.

Stating to just stream everything. Which is not always an option for others.

Just like the headphone jack. The microsd card slot is not something you have to use if you don't want to. It's called having options/feature.

I personally have no problem with people who can make do with 64GB of storage on a phone. It's those that are vocal about the loss of the microsd card stating good riddance. Nobody needs it. Those are the people i don't understand.

        • you will run out of storage if you plan to keep the phone multiple years

Surely you have your phone set to backup photos/videos to the cloud whenever it's connected to WiFi?

I've loaded plenty of apps on my phones over the years and have never used more than 60GB including the OS.

        • +1

I'm still using 128gb and finally about to hit the limit after 4 years of daily use

    • +5

      I'd also include:

      Dual SIM (nano-SIM + nano-SIM) Yes
      NFC Yes
      Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax)
      Bluetooth v5.2

No offence to OP, but Product Descriptions are just marketing fluff. Specs help you compare and see how good the tech is for the money & for $349 this is excellent value, imo

      • +3

No offence taken, I’ll update the description shortly :)

      • +1

        Oops yes important stuff!

    • Pretty great specs for the price!

Battery seems a bit small though, wonder how long it lasts in normal use.

      • Edge 30's SOT is around 6-7 hours based on internet people I've asked

        • Not bad at all, my poco X3 has 5000mAh and after a couple of years it's been hovering around that.

Especially for this price seems like a great performer.

    • Looks good but for me what breaks the deal is no display output only takes USB 2.0. Bought the pro edition instead

  • Looks like a good price for those looking for a mid-range phone.

    Great deal!

My new pixel 6a's battery life is really disappointing.

On the other hand, Motorola is slow at software updates. Besides that, I was very happy with my Edge 20 Fusion.

    • How's your 6a's SOT?

    • Might be due to 5G on.
You can turn off adaptive connectivity off and also turn off background cellular data off from developer options.

      • It could be 5G and I could turn it off but I want those features.

  • +1

    Any review on camera?

    • Thats what concern me as Motorola not good with their camera photo quality

      • +11

You cannot expect pixel quality or Samsung quality on camera that's not the reason to buy this phone for….

        • Yeah seems Samsung or even Xiaomi got better camera quality …

      • Ive been using Motorola phones for a few years. I don't use the camera at all. It sux. I use my partner's iPhone if I need to use camera

    • +2

My current Motorola Edge has the worst camera I've ever used. Slow to focus, and when it does, everything still looks out of focus. Terrible low light performance. In good light, lots of fringing. Colours don't look right. Had a lot of Xiami phones before which blew away the motorola. Wouldn't buy another motorola product.

      • Which edge? My gf has this one and it's not that bad imo. Low light not great but overall okay, especially for the price

      • Mines the same unless there's ample light, Moto Edge 20 here

    • Judging by the photos, it looks like a potential tripping hazard?

  • +16

Motorola with their naming hierarchy is getting just crazy as Sony used to be.
Across different stores and Motorola website, Motorola currently sells Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, 30 Neo, 30 pro, Edge 30, 30 Fusion, Edge 20, 20 pro, 20 fusion, G82,62,51,50,32,31, 22, 21, E22.
And then there is Razr and Moto One series too.

    • +11

Agreed, this is a turnoff for someone new to their line of phones wanting to see which model stands where in the heirarchy. Stopped me impulse buying this because now I’ll have to research all the other models and the price and spec differences. And I just haven’t had enough coffee yet for that kind of mission lol.

      • +2

Agreed, that and their website is fscking god awful, so hard just to find specs. now i need to look up their phone lineup and try and compare the components on gsm arena and hope i'm getting the right AU version specs, ugh. Good call on the coffee.

        • +1

I’m on my third coffee and think I’ll let this deal slide, it’s Saturday morning & I don’t have it in me to start my 10 min research haha.

    • +1

I thought Apple was bad in past models too, but with this new 14 they've just gone off the deep end. In another 2 years they'll probably have 6-8 16's or 17's. The industry is becoming a joke…

    • +1

      Edge 20 > Edge 20 Fusion

      Edge 30 Fusion > Edge 30

      why Moto, why

  • +1

Seems like a pretty good price.
I am becoming a bit of a Motorola admirer. My E20F just got the 12 update, runs fast (and faster when I am connected to 5G), has a great display and the battery lasts for ages. The camera is not as good as a recent flagship but it gets a bit better with different apps

  • Can anyone touch on the battery life with 144hz mode ? My pixel 4a barely lasts the day now. Looking for an upgrade

    • As long as you don't force it at all times, it's ok.

  • Great deal when coupled with Shopback cashback at 10am today

    • Good idea💡
Bought $350 gift cards then. With normal cashback of 2.5% ($8.75) for JB cards + $50 bonus cashback & $10 perks voucher - brings Edge 30 5G down to $280!
      Or G51 for $158!

That popular Deal now ended. (Required Latitude credit card. Enough notice given in Deal to sign up.)

But someone negged you for helping😣

  • +2

I bought the Moto G 5G Plus (128GB) last year for $300 (Thanks OzBargain), but recently smashed the screen - quoted replacement plus fitting $165.

Wondering whether to repair or buy a new phone so this is tempting, but for a two-year newer model I don't see very much improvement over the G-5G-Plus; smaller battery, no SD card slot (although 128GB is fine on my current phone), slightly smaller screen (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), and at a glance the camera specs look lower except for the slight MP increase.

    Hmmm.

Thanks for posting OP. If it was closer to $300 I think I would bite.

    • The g51 5g was posted here at $199 the other day

      • Thanks for bringing that to my attention, scootySK, but that looks lower-spec than my current phone, so would be more cost effective to repair the screen for $35 less.

        • Upgrade to this, it’s all you’ll need for the new couple of years

    • +2

Edge 30 is 52g lighter which is nice

  • +1

I got the edge 20 fusion around $250ish as my first ever Motorola device and it's still going strong. Camera performance is mediocre but the karate chop gesture flashlight is amazing! I'd consider upgrading if the camera performance here is better

    • Same

    • +2

      karate chop gesture flashlight

Seriously. This should be baked on to the android os.

    • +1

Karate chop flashlight and wobble camera is a bloody great idea that moto implemented.

      • Care to explain exactly what these features are?

        • +3

You do the karate chop action to turn on the flash to use it as a light.

you do the wobble motion to quick open up the camera app.

          • @xoom: I finally decided to turn on karate chop on my Moto. Seems very convenient. Heard good things about it over the years, not gimmicky unlike Galaxy skins.

        • +5

To elaborate on what xoom said, the phone uses the tilt sensors inside it to detect specific motions and use that to trigger actions like turning the flashlight on and opening the camera.

It sounds gimmicky, but what ends up happening is that becomes so second nature that it borders on instinctive. Power goes out? In 1 second you have light.
See something that needs capturing? The phone is already in your hand with the camera app waiting.

Of course you can do both of these things quite quickly already from the lockscreen, but Motorola makes it so easy you can do it without looking. Once you've got used to it, its hard to go back

      • +2

People have told me my flashlight is on a few times. Think I must accidentally "chop" it in my pocket. To save battery, disabled it as rarely use the light.

  • +1

Is there a Gcam app can be sideloaded on this phone?

  • +2

Worth upgrading from the edge 20 for this?

    • You'll lose the telephoto camera.
      Probs not worth upgrading.

      • Yeah I concluded this too after a few mins research. Specs are very close.

        • Edge 30 OIS on main camera is the main and great improvement

  • Can't find anywhere if this has wireless charging

    • Yeah I saw that it did and didn't online. Leaning towards it doesnt

    • +2

It doesn't. The one thing I regret about buying it.

      • 30 pro version has wireless charging

        • +2

As do many other phones which aren't part of this deal, and which I didn't buy in a panic in the 15 spare minutes I had before I had to get to work the morning after my phone died :/

  • VoLTE & VoWifi ?

    • Doesn't that depend in the carrier, not the phone?

      • +1

It would surely have volte. Not sure about vowifi. In my experience vowifi doesn't work that great regardless.

  • Will double the price 'PRO' version twice better than this?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/motorola-edge-30-pro-5g-1…

  • +1

Is this a good phone for old people? Should I buy this or for the same price buy a slightly used 4 year old iPhone for my grandmother?

    • +1 thinking of buying this for parents in 70s

    • This seems to be a popular choice for $150 less or even better if you use perks, gift cards etc.

    • +1

Buy G51 for senior ppl, should be more than enough.. But phone is big,, might be too heavy? Currently $199 less $10 perks.. Sweeter if u hv discounted gift cards

    • +2

The iPhone is probably simpler for her to use would be my guess

  • +3

Does it still say Hello Moto on startup?

    • +2

You can disable that via Settings -> Sounds.

      • +1

Such an annoying feature on moto phones

        • +13

          I use it to flex.

    • Not bad at least doesn't say mofo

      • +1

I wonder if they'd consider doing a collaboration with Samuel L. Jackson?

  • +2

If it had wireless charging I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. It's the only feature I'd be potentially missing coming from my stalwart pixel 3xl.

Having NFC and dual Sim is a huge win at this price. CPU specs seem like no slouch and a nice big screen.

    Very tempting!
