Samsung The Premiere Triple Laser 4K Smart Projector - $6999 Delivered @ Addicted to Audio

50

Have been tossing up between getting a really large OLED and a UST projector and came across this deal for the Samsung Premier - triple laser 4K projector which is one of the best UST projectors out there. Normally priced at $9999 @ JB so the price is actually really good!

Hope this helps someone. Not my first post so don't be gently.

Just a FYI, every single display model I have seen has had a failing dlp chip (stuck pixel)

    • That is really good to know. Back to the research guess.

You'll probabaly need this tv shelf to hold it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlQDLCTLAmQ&t=7s

If you're spending that much look at https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/lg-cinebeam-hu915qe-4k-uh…
Should be far brighter and is supposed to have the best blacks out of all the UST projectors.

When I click on this link, it shows the projector and two items under "Frequently bought together". One is a DVD which makes sense but the other is a laundry liquid. Should I double check the parental guidance for the DVD?
Are you thinking what I am thinking, B1?

  • first 2 digits of that price is Nice, the next 2 not so much.

  • I'll take the OLED.

I have the lower model and had to get the ldp chip replaced under warranty, I had two stuck pixels.

    • Shoot! How long did it take for the dead pixels to show?
I have the LSP7T as well which gets used maybe once a week, wondering if I should be worried or not… :(

I really like the PQ and brightness from this vs the price I paid for it.

      • I got the same one, it took about 8 months I believe. My usage is a lot more since I use it as my main TV.

        • thanks for letting me know. will keep an eye, or maybe I should use it a bit more to see if it's dodgy or not

  • Is the "rainbow" effect a thing with this projector?

    • Rainbow effect should only effect projectors which use a colour wheel, so no.

This is old technology for projectors at this point, so I wouldn't expect to see newer models having this issue and definately not at that price range.

      • Are you sure? I thought colour wheels are used in all DLP projectors so if you're worried about the rainbow effect it might be best to look at Epsons since their USTs use 3LCD.

        • This model uses 3 separate light sources, so my understanding is that it shouldn't be affected by rainbow effect (maybe I am wrong).

I am usually very susceptible to this sort of flaws, but have to admit on two colour wheel projectors I have tried (Xiaomi Smart 2 Pro and LSP7T) neither bother me, they are really only visible while I am looking at the screen and moving my head very fast (so let's say I am focused on top right corner and then suddenly need to look down to read the subtitles). During normal watching it is not noticeable at all.

        • No you're right I seem to be equating colour wheel to 1-chip DLP systems which is wrong.

Apologies. The LSP9T doesn't use a colour wheel and shouldn't exhibit rainbow effect. Should have left it at that.

      • Colour wheels are widespread, even plenty of the very newest 4K models use them…

        • In $7000 projectors though ?

I should have made it more clear in my post sorry, its my bad. At this price range I wouldn't expect to be paying anything close to this for a 1-chip DLP projector.

I could very easily be wrong, but haven't seen it used in models that I've been keeping an eye on in the last two years (of which the LSP9T) is one.

Apologies if i've given misleading info.

I would not get one without an ALR screen unless you have a dark room and smooth wall. ALR screen makes a huge difference.

    • Yeah, saw some 120" CLR screens on Aliexpress for ~1500. Wish hisense would launch their new UST soon

      • +1

The JB deal that included the 120" screen was great.
Hisense normally includes ALR screen with their projector.

        • Exactly why I'm hoping that they'll be some deals on their L9 tri-chrome series soon. Seems like 3 lasers is the way to go in terms of color accuracy and brightness.

    • We are casting it on a semi smooth wall (recently painted but not without imperfections). It is not as bad as I was expecting it to be. During daytime or with downlights on the projector needs to be moved forward to make a smaller but brighter image.

At night it's perfectly fine. It is one of those things that if you are far enough from the screen the sheer size of the screen makes up for the imperfections.
Having said that it is certainly better than one of the screens in our local cinema, which has a few smudges on the screen (very very annoying) and I have informed them multiple times over the years… they simply don't care to fix it.
