  • Does anyone know if it's possible to break these contracts without having to pay the ETCs?

  • Does this JB Telstra deal in general have data sharing option? I know you have to pay $15 per month for up to 10 phone or tablet devices . Just not sure through JB you can get too?

  • +1

Managed to get $20 off the $99/month plan for 12 months from the very first rep I spoke to.

Complained that the plan was 24 months not 12, but he said all he could offer was $10 or $20 for 12 months, nothing for 24.

Decided to settle for $20 off for 12 months - happy with that since after tax deductions this is already a steal.

    • same position. trying to get 24 months discount.

      • Any luck?

        • negative.

apparently they'll sort me out once the 12 months is off. i've settled for $20 off pm for 12 months. very happy with that.

          • @Carrian: Let's check in, in 12 months.. see how we went. :P

  • Spoke with Telstra customer care and JB and was told there's either no $20/m credit or if it can be guaranteed.

Didn't want to take a chance and went with the "$400 JB GC w/Telstra $69/M 12-M" plan.

  • Serious question.

If I sign up to 24m plan to get the gift card towards an iPhone 14 Pro.

What penalties will I have to pay if I cancel after say 6months

    • From https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0024/9803/5810/files/JB-Hi…

What happens when I cancel my plan early?
You'll need to pay an Early Termination Charge (ETC) equal to
50% of your monthly fee for the months (or part months)
remaining in your plan term. The maximum ETC for your plan is
set out in the above table. In addition to this, you'll also need
to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering
into your plan. This Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee
is pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher
divided by 12 and multiplied by months (or part months)
remaining in your plan term. This charge will appear on your
Telstra bill, the maximum of which is also set out in the table.

      • Thanks. Looks like only a deal if you stick it out.

  • Anyone know what the chances the $1200 GC deal will come up again?
I want to port out but won't be on another network for 30 days before the deal expires

    • +1

You are better off getting doing this..

      1. Buy cheap prepaid Sim (eg Aldi $5)
      2. Activate service
      3. Use newly created service to sign up to $99 plan and port in number to Telstra
      4. Ask telstra for $20 welcome credit, most people have been able to get it applied for 12mo, some 24mo
      5. Wait 48hr then ask Telstra to change your existing service number to be swapped onto your new contract and terminate your old service (if your still on contract there might be termination fee's)
      6. No port mess required and you get your old number with $1200gc
      7. YOu also get $480 off your bill, well at least for the 1st 12 months.

      Enjoy

      • +1

I thought the swapping numbers was risky and doesn't work 100% of the time?

        • Sure, but its also quite low chance that will happen. Your call mate.

          • @vash5: Can confirm this method works, ended up giving Telstra a call as they couldn't do it over live chat. Plus scored $10 off for 12months, they didn't budge for the $20 off.

        • +3

It works, you just need to find an agent that actually knows what to do, otherwise, he will just cancel your plan for the number that you want to keep or you need to pay the cancellation fee for the JB plan

Wanted to chime in and thank OP and the rest of the community here. I managed to trade in my iPhone 12 Pro Max for $750, I got the $1200 gift card and was left to spend $149 on the iPhone 14 Pro max 256gb.

I also spoke with a Telstra rep and on the FIRST try, asked about getting $20 off as a new customer - and they gave it to me effortlessly. Planets aligned for some good savings.

    • +1

No worries, glad it all worked out for you :)

Enjoy your new iPhone 14 Pro Max!

    • Applied credit for 12 or 24 months?

  • +3

If I am calculating correctly with the $20/m credit, the 12-month plan comes to around $16 a month.

    (((69 − 20) × 12) − 400)/12 = 15.6666666667

I think this is good savings.

I managed to get the $20/m credit after 3 attempts (Twitter, phone and chat).

    • that's amazing bargain. Better than my amaysim prepaid haha.

What's the secret, how did you word your quest to get it the discount and which channel worked? Phone, twitter or chat

      • +2

From my experience contacting them via twitter and phone is useless.

After signing up, install and open My Telstra app. Go to Get help → Message us and leave a message along the lines of "Hi. I've ported over to Telstra from <your_ex_provider> and would like to avail the $20/m discount" and take it from there.

    • Applied credit for 12 or 24 months?

Signed up today and ported over from Woolies mobile. Managed to get $20 credit too.

    Thanks OP.

    • hey mate how'd you get the $20 discount per month. In person, over the phone or chat?

      • +1

        Over the in-app chat.

    • Hi Squarepants, so you're able to port over from woolies mobile?

      • Yeah I was. Are you having some issues with porting over from Woolies mobile?

        • I'm not on woolies mobile ATM but some people said we can't even port from Telstra network wholesale and it doesn't count haha

          • +1

@striker999: Nah, it's only Boost (Full Telstra) and Belong (MVNO) that you can't port in from. Other Telstra wholesales like Woolies mobile are fine.

    • Applied credit for 12 or 24 months?

    Grabbed one today. Thanks OP!

The $400 gift card for the $69 plan seems to have been extended to 21 Sep.

  • +2

Took 3 tries on live chat but managed to get a $20 discount for 12 months on the $69 plan, didn't get downgraded to 60gb so still have 100gb of data.
First 2 tries I got told to ask JB Hi-Fi, but managed to get it on the 3rd try :)
I made a Telstra ID account between my 2nd and 3rd try, not sure if that would've made the difference.

    • +1

They keep telling me they couldn't find an active service linked to my Telstra ID. had to get them to search my mobile number and then the rep could apply the $20 credit

  • I called 5 times no luck, tried to chat with telstra also no luch regarding $10 credit . :(

  • Can anyone post a screenshot of an agent confirming $20 welcome credit for 12 months for the $69 jb plan?

    Thanks in advance!

    • Applied credit for 12 or 24 months?

  • Does anyone know if I port over 2 numbers for the $69 plan, do I get 1 or 2 $400 gift cards?

    • I believe if it's two separate plans then you will get two gift cards

  • I'm on Telstra at the moment. Can I port over elsewhere today and sign up tomorrow? How strict are they on 30 days has anyone actually tried this on shorter term?

  • +2

2nd go and got $20 off for 12 months , first guy said I needed to speak to JB hi Fi 🤣. Just keep trying I'd you don't get it I guess

  • +3

Signed up at JB yesterday for me and the missus, got the $20 credit this morning for both services on the 2nd go, thank you.

    • Applied credit for 12 or 24 months?

  • Does Telstra run a credit check for the sim omly plans?

    • The JB Hi-Fi salesperson did for me. He was saying it depends on when it was last done by Telstra. It has been more than a year in my case since I was a Telstra customer.

  • +2

For those interested, I can confirm the trick of changing from Telstra to Vodafone and back to Telstra (via JB HiFi) within ~24hrs works. Just did this with my wife's phone in-store and received the $400 gift voucher. Not sure if we just got lucky, but worth a try!

    • Follow-up to the above, Vodafone refunded the full monthly charge (minus $8 to transfer the number).

Contacted Telstra via their App Chat. Managed to get $20 p/m off for 6 months, no questions asked. Just said the JB HiFi rep promised it. They said to get in contact after 6 months to apply again. I guess they can only discount for 1/2 of the plan length (we got the $69 p/m for 12 months).

Also, noticed while in store that the gift card deal is still posted, however the $69 plan is now for 24 months.

  • +2

signed up today. Took almost an hour to get on and port-over.

contacted Telstra via App Chat for discount.
First person was unable to help me
when the chat ended, i provided an unsatisfactory survey and it was taken over by someone else who was then able to apply it for 12 months. And said I will need to contact them again after 12 months for it to be applied again as they don't have an option to apply for 24 months.

Ask for $20 port in credit.

  • +3

I'm likely just repeating what everyone else has already mentioned. However, I figured I'd document my experience on the off-chance it proves useful.

I signed up earlier today for the $99/300GB monthly plan on a two year contract with the bonus $1,200 gift card. Unfortunately, the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max wasn't in stock, but I'm not in desperate need and may end up saving the $1,200 gift card for the Apple iPhone 15 lineup instead. Anyway, after a few minor issues at the store (unreliable PoS computer, faulty SIM card, etc.), the service was activated quickly.

Like everyone else, I decided to try my luck with requesting the $20 monthly welcome credit from Telstra. For reference, I did this via the 'My Telstra' app by selecting the 'Get Help' tab and the 'Message Us' option. I entered 'Monthly Plan Discount' as the keywords for the chat bot and then selected 'Mark As Urgent' from the chat menu (I'm uncertain if the latter is necessary, but not selecting it connected me to a Telstra representative who asked a series of questions and requested further documentation from the JB Hi-Fi representative, whereas selecting it connected me to a Telstra representative who issued the welcome credit — which was a $20 monthly discount for the first year, effectively $240 — no questions asked). My request message simply stated that the JB Hi-Fi representative offered a welcome credit of $20 monthly as an incentive to switch service providers due to my reluctance but stipulated that I'd have to speak to a Telstra representative post-activation to action it.

Anyway, the outcome was seemingly positive and I'm relieved to be switching from Vodafone. Thanks to everyone who shared the welcome credit information.

Signed up today and only got a $300 GC instead of $400. Was able to add the $20 welcome credit on chat for 12 months no problem.

Was considering the $700 GC for 24mo contract but not worth it
