  • $400 or $600?

    • +2

      Cheers, fixed :)

      • +8

lol was thinking the 600 would have been awesome and a no brainer for the 12 months :)

      • +1

Gift cards to be used by 14/09 and 21/09?

        • so can't use the gift card to purchase the new iphone 14 if you are on $69 plan

          • +1

@dirtyhen: You still can, the deal only finishes on 14 Sept for $69 plan or 21 Sept $99 plan

Sign up prior and get the JB gift cards as they do not expire

  • +3

Haven’t been on this for awhile but damn it’s dropped from $500 for the gc…

Do they still provide the additional $10 for opting in or is that no longer a thing?

    • +2

It is still a thing based on the previous promo :)

      • +1

Do I need to join the 12-month plan from JbHiFi first and then online chat with Telstra rep to try my luck? Thanks

        • +5

Yes that's the correct procedure… If the first person you speak to says "NO"… Hang up & call again until you get someone to say "YES"…

    • +2

I managed to get $20/month off both of the phones I ported 2 weeks ago.

      • +3

Ooh, can I ask what you did to get that?

        • +1

I'd suspect it's the same ongoing strategy. Persist on chat support repeatedly until one of the rep gives you the discount.

          • +1

@CocaKoala: But $20 instead of the standard $10

            • +3

@jaypee06: Yes, if you read the previous threads a lot of people ask for $20 off instead of the $10, and it's worked. But only for those select few persistent and tenacious bargain hunters.

            • +8

@jaypee06: I used the My Telstra App, to call someone. They put me through to a team straight away. I said, "I was offered $20 welcome credit at JBHIFI if I called up, a friend of mine has had it happen too." First guy I got did it for me. Didn't even question it. Just be really nice to them and have a friendly convo, and they're usually pretty good.

Just be aware that the 40gb bonus data is not compatible with the $20/month off- so they need to remove that. So your data will be 60gb instead of 100gb/month.

              • @ONEMariachi: cheers, will give it a crack

              • @ONEMariachi: I rang to ask PRIOR to signing up and they just said she can’t find the deal anywhere and it doesn’t exist. Asked on chat also and got a similar response.

                • +1

@stuarty9: Because it isn't a deal. It's a welcome credit applied by doing a mod order after you've signed up at jbhifi. Asking about it prior to signing up wouldn't make any sense.

                  • @ONEMariachi: I was hoping that they would say something like we can apply a $20 per month credit once you’ve signed up however nothing like this was said and in fact she was confused about it..

Like you said it isn’t a deal that is written or listed anywhere but for me it is only worth while signing up if I get the $20 discount ($480 over life of the plan) so if I cannot get confirmation prior to signing up it makes it very difficult as there is no guarantee I’ll get the discount if I sign up..

                    • @stuarty9: Fair enough. I did it myself on the 1st of September, and two mates did it the following date after I did mine with no issues. So take that as you will.

              • @ONEMariachi: Tried doing it through the chat and the guy kept asking for the friends phone number. I’m going to try calling in tomorrow to see if it works.

                • @Mintees: yeah i called through the app. There's an option to have them call you.

                  • @ONEMariachi: Cheers, I said maybe I have to call them and they went and just applied it haha

              • @ONEMariachi: I managed to get a $20/month discount too but I still have 100gb/month.

      • +1

Oh, would love to hear how this went down?

        • +1

          commented above

    • +1

Same questions every time this deal gets posted.

  • +2

The Good Guys are doing the same gift card deals with the Telstra SIM only plans as well

    • Not worth it. @GG
      Only 80gb for 69 plan

  • Serious Question:

Why would you pick the $69 a month over 24 months to get $600 ($44 a month) back over,

    the $69 a month over 12 months to get $400 ($35.67 a month) back?

    • +9

To be on a 12-month plan instead of a 24-month plan?

    • +5

Because you don't want to be locked into a 24 month contract

    • +3

      Money vs. options.

24 months gives you more money

12 months give you options (eg if you think a better deal might come along in a year’s time and you want to be able to take advantage of that)

  • Any way you can make this work if you are already a Telstra customer for 2 years (and keep your number)?

    • +1

Get a prepaid today, swap tomorrow

      • Wont work. Need 1 month out of telstra/affiliates.

        • +2

That is the official line but I hear many people swapping the next day!

          • +1

@Serpeant: Nah they are cracking down on it and really wont work even the swap number trick doesn't really work anymore as well unless you want to go through the hassle of making a complaint and stuff.

            • @nobby148: So has anyone recently manged to get this deal after swapping out for a day?

Who has been declined after swapping out for a day?

          • +1

@Serpeant: They cracked down on this like 3 years ago. It all depends on how inexperienced the telco rep is - unless things have changed when putting through orders.

            • @hypie: lol. ive had it 3 years in a row.

              • @Serpeant: Ported out of telstra and then back in the next day to contract the jb deal?

Switching an existing phone number to this plan is different. That's up to telstra.

                • +2

@hypie: after a few days, but under a month.

                  yes, same telstra jb deal.

                  • @Serpeant: Nice! yeah it must be a lot easier now that the telco call centers have closed down.

I tried twice a few years ago and got denied, so I just port out and back in after 30 days. Currently on the Optus 60,000 points deal until they offer $500GC.

t's fairly easy to check when a number was last on Telstra.

                • @hypie: They wouldnt let me do it this time! Need to wait 30 days!

          • @Serpeant: I’ve swapped an hour after and it worked fine

    • port out to lebara or vodafone or something cheaper and port back to telstra

    • +3

Just sign up for mew number. Then get telstra to swap numbers and cancel ur old plan

      • I thought they closed this loophole.

        • Don’t think so. Just had a chat with them last week. They can still do it on prepaid so I reckon no problem with postpaid as well.

        • +9

Not a loophole, just a small risk. In order to get your number to swap over, they need to disconnect the plan with your desired number, then remove it from quarantine(aka blocks the number from being used for a period of time) . that removal from quarantine puts it at risk of someone auto grabbing it when new numbers are generated if the consultant isn't quick enough to search it and assign it to your new plan. I probably did it about 2 dozen times, and only had it happen once when I was running a store a few years back. So take that as you will.

          • @ONEMariachi: Also it really depends on who you speak to most of them wont do it anymore. I had to make a complaint before someone would do it and really not worth the hassle IMO.

            • @nobby148: Yeah if a consultant has been burned before and caused a customer to lose their number. Chances are they won’t try it again. Also, it requires angood understanding of the systems to work out how to do it too. So some may not even know how.

I always used to preface that it wasn’t an official offering and there is a chance you could lose your number.

      • -1

I would like to have mew’s number and also pikachu’s as well if you don’t mind?

        • +1

          151 and 25

      • +4

Here are your live chat scripts, adapted from previous posts. Gets you the $10 per month welcome credit, and once you have purchased a new service, transfers your existing number to it. Avoids needing to churn for 30 days to qualify for new/churning service.

        welcome credit

Hi, I just signed up for the service (NEWNUMBER). My friend told me I could get a $10 per month welcome credit on each. Are you able to help me with this please?

        moving the service

Hi, I signed up for a new number and service (NEWNUMBER) that expires in 2023 I want to keep the SIM and SERVICE. All I want to do is MOVE my number (OLDNUMBER) to this new service. You can then subsequently cancel the SIM that was originally associated with (NEWNUMBER), and then cancel the number (OLDNUMBER). So in the end.. I have ONE service, and ONE number…. that is (NEWNUMBER) with a plan that expires in 2023.

    • -2

You don't want much do you !

  • Are you still able to sign up to a new service (new number), then jump online and get them to cancel the old/existing service, but retain the number and use it on the new service?

  • Same question as above but I'm with Belong, they treat that as being on Telstra right?

    • +1

      No Belong or Boost.

You can probably still get the deal but no $400 voucher!

      • +1

Are you sure about Boost? I believe Boost is a completely separate company, Belong is just part of Telstra

        • If it uses the Telstra network probably not. Only one way to find out.

          • @hypie: lots of providers use Telstra network (Aldi, Woolies, lyca), can't imagine they'd not be allowed.

        • +3

Boost is in siebel, it is treated as a prepaid to postpaid, not a new port in.

    • Same question as above and every time this deal gets posted.

  • Anyone know what jb stocks are like with new iPhone released? Thinking of doing this and then using the GC to buy the new iPhone on release day.

  • When $500?

  • Can you do international roaming on these JB hifi associated Telstra plans?

    • Last time I asked a few weeks ago - no and no data sharing either

    • +1

My old jb plan was compatible with telstras international day pass which is rubbish value.

  • paying $163 per month on Optus, that includes 2 mobile plans, one tablet (shared data pool 100gb), and a 5g unlimited home internet

these sound like a rip off to me

    • Dang, this is what I need, any chance you could name the plans your're on?

      • 2x $45pm small choice plans (both with $10 discounts), the recent deal of $12.5pm Samsung A8 tablet. $70pm 5G home broadband, unlimited.

        $35 + $35 + $70 + $12.5 = $152.5

I can't figure out where the other $10 come from, maybe I have some subscription via MyOptus hub? need to find out

    • -1

You are paying too much. Optus reception is not really good compare to Telstra

      • +2

My experience has Optus as a better choice than Telstra, had moved across for 12 months for the previous gift card offer. The coverage, customer service and general user experience has been superior. Initially the lack of visual voicemail was a dissapoitnment that is now fixed and I cannot see a compelling reason to go back to Telstra unless an attractive reason

      • I have been on Optus for 7 years now, no complains

  • If you are already on a month to month Telstra contract can you get a new service then port your number over?

  • Why on Telstra's website can you get $89p/m 300gb? No lock in, month to month but on JB its $99 and locked in for 24m?
Seems odd or is this how they justify the GC they give away?

    • … yes this is why they give you free money on top…

  • +3

Not sure whether it's a price error or not, but JB are showing the Pixel 6a $0 Upfront for $69 12 Month Plan on their site - $828 total for 12 months for both the phone and plan.

    Screenshot of Offer

Factoring in $599 phone price, makes the Telstra plan $229. Seems pretty solid if they honour it.

    • Sorry to be a bit thick but would you get the GC as well by doing this or is that a separate offer?

      • Separate offer

      • Separate offer unfortunately

      • It depends on store rep. If they want to stack GC along with the offer, they may allow it.

    • They did this just the other week with Pixel 6A and Galaxy S21FE, so I expect not a price error. Good deal certainly.

  • I ported away from Telstra months ago in preparation to port back on a JB plan but after being on cheap prepaid plan with Optus at $30pm
I'm not sure it's worth it, I guess Telstra comes with a bit more data and I do a lot of streaming but Optus seems ok so far. I'm thinking of churning between cheap prepaid or no lock in contract carriers instead, it may save more money than the giftcard value (although a bit more work). I understand coverage is better with Telstra but I've had no issues so far. I'm still to make my mind up but I will definitely wait for a $500 gc deal before deciding anyway.

    • What Optus deal did you go with?

      • I'm on the Epic Data $30pm sim only prepaid

EDIT: and just brought a amaysim $9 sim from woolies for 55gb 28days to port to ($30 after first month)

    • +1

I've been with Amaysim for a few years now, I pay $30 a month for 55gb a month, unlimited data banking, unlimited international calls. The only drawbacks are:
      - No 5G.
      - No eSIM.
      - No Wifi Calling.
      - No VoLTE.
      - No eSIM.
      - No capability of "pairing" a cellular wearable (like a smarthwatch) to the same mobile plan.

If you don't need the above, no point paying a premium to be with the main carriers and just save your money by being with a MVNO.
