[NSW] Free 15-20 Minute Electric Vehicle Test Drive (at Wagga Wagga 17-18th September & Newcastle 26th November) @ My NRMA

570

You need to register if you wish to test drive an EV. You don't need to register to simply attend the event. This is a free event where everyone is welcome to come along.

Description from website:

Supported by the NSW Government, we’re hosting a series of electric vehicle (EV) drive days where you can find out everything you need to know about owning and driving an EV.

You’ll have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an EV for a test drive and talk to experts about buying and charging EVs. You can also check out a range of vehicle models and find out about chargers currently available in Australia.

Our EV drive days are free to attend and open to all, so bring your friends and family along. Even if you’re not up for a test drive, there’ll be food available to purchase, Member giveaways, information stalls, and EV experts on hand to answer all your questions.

Our first drive days in Ku-ring-gai were a huge success. Read about the event and see some great pictures and video footage.

Next up, we’re bringing EV drive days to Wagga Wagga and Newcastle:

  • where you can find out everything you need to know about owning and driving an EV.

Imagine if people were taught how to look after and drive any vehicle type.

    • +23

It is required because there is a boatload of misinformation out there…

        • +9

sharing your statements as facts in a subject matter that you are not knowledgeable of, is the very definition of misinformation.

    • +4

Yep, would save so many issues out there honestly. The amount of people that put the wrong fuel type, or run engines down to empty, or ignore service lights etc etc etc. Real basic stuff hey.

    • +2

get off your imaginary high horse.

"any vehicle type", non-power steering cars and cars with manual chokes no longer exists in modern cars.

you still need separate licenses for bus/trucks, armoured vehicles.

i suggest you keep up or get left behind.

  • Nice, let's try some fast and furious

What happens if I crash 4 of them?

    • +31

If you crash 3 vehicles and they let you into a 4 still I reckon it's on them.

      • Hhhhhh

    • at the cost they are asking for these days, you'd probably need to get your grand children to repay for them.

      • Or sell your unborn grand children to pay for them

      • -1

Compared to what? Assuming an average price for available EV models in Australia, there are probably +150 more expensive non-EV models sold, so I don't understand your point?

        Needless hyperbole.

        • so, buddy over here is joking about smashing 4 EVs that costs between 80k to 180k (for a tesla) driveaway.

point me to that 150 more expensive non-ev models that are not super cars ?

that's like 720k on the upper end, you know, people pay 30 years mortgage on their house range…

i mean talking about hyperbole on an obvious joke thread… seriously? ru ok?

          • +1

@slowmo: Ahhhh you were joking. I have a problem picking up on terrible jokes.

The average price for all of the EV models sold is probably closer to $80-90k at a guess. The 4 on the drive look to be a LOT cheaper. Quick google will show you lists of all models sold and their prices. There would be over 200 cars more expensive than the models shown in the photo.

I mean it doesn't even make sense to throw a $180k Telsa in the mix. It's a luxury car so hardly reflective of the broader market.

            https://www.carsguide.com.au/ev/advice/every-electric-car-av…

Anyway, sounded like an anti-EV comment. If not, good day I guess.

  • wagga and newcastle… unlike urban centers where EVs would work best

    yeah sounds about right

    • Newcastle also has public transport, even though that would work best in urban centers..

    What's an Elective Vehicle?

Is that the ones that get gummint grants to purchase?

    • That’s why we don’t have many of these “Elective Vehicles” - not enough grants :P

    • No, you're confusing them with Ranger Wildtrack.

    • Thats exactly what i thought

Although who in these country towns would think its a good idea to get an ev…

      • why not? they are already pumping out 900km range EVs in China

        • Which none will be sold here…

          • @hippyhippy: what makes you think current brands in Aus won't use those new battery packs? Tesla is already switching their supply to CATL.

            • +1

@Creamsoda: Because we buy cars .. not battery packs. And there is currently no car slated to be sold in Australia with 900km range even if the tech exists. BYD told us they were going to sell us thier car for chips but ended up closer to tesla. So why bother with an overpriced chinese designed junk when u can get the American designed Chinese made instead… look at the new model y… initial tests show a real world range of under 380km… that's already 75km less than the advertised range of 455km. And long range version isn't going to fair better especially in the country where you get the stop start that increases range.

So if u live in the country, good luck with that range.

              • -1

@hippyhippy: battery tech affects EVs directly. this event is to build EV awareness in the bush rather than brands selling directly. come next year there will be more models on offer and 900km will make its way here. It's ignorant to say Chinese EVs are junk. If you do the slightest research in to EVs they are far from it. MG has won so many awards across the world it will deflate your hubris.

BYD Atto3 $44,990 drive away, Tesla model 3 $71,000 drive away. how are those price close??

                • @Creamsoda: The byd was hyped to be much cheaper … it has a real world range of less than 300km … even though the specs say 420km … mg has even less range.. country driving would even have less range. A true 900km ev is still a long way off yet. Any person living in the country would be crazy to consider anything but a long range tesla… and even then probably not that great.

  • +2

does this include insurance and drifting

    • Tyre wear too?

  • +1

Are we going to have an Ozbargain gazebo for those who found out through this?

    • +6

You sound annoyed, don't hold back

    • -1

Yeah let's just continue what we're doing and run the planet into the ground, all good guys!

    • +2

Yes, Fossil fuel is the future just like Coal. is that you Scomo?

    • -5

Not to mention the elevated levels of brake and tyre dust caused by heavier vehilces, and the road repairs/upgrades required for the onslaught of EVs.

      • +6

lol. if the roads are getting damaged by EVs today and not the double-Bs and supermarket delivery trucks, I think you have bigger things to worry about.

if you want to put on 'onslaught' to a group, it's that group of people that has been pork barrelling non-stop to keep unsustainable fuel sources going.

        • -1

I mean for a similar sized vehicle the EV will be 30-50% heavier, so with the move to EV adoption the roads will have a higher concentration of weight on it.
          EG:
          Kia Cerato GT 1350 kg
          Tesla 3 1844kg

          Hyundai Santa Fe 1943kg
          Tesla model X 2352kg

Toyota hilux rugged x wanking tractor 2316kg
          Hummer ev pickup 4120kg
          Chevy silverado 2470kg

So yeah, there will be more wear per vehicle due to the comparable weight difference of each class of vehicle. But let’s all stick our heads in the sand and think we’re saving the planet by consuming more.

      • Regenerative braking in EVs means they will typically produce much less brake dust (up to 75%) than non-EVs.

    • +5

oh I'm sure you have a much more viable and sustainable solution that you implemented, can't wait to hear about it and use it.

      please go on.

      • Misread your name as 'scomo' and did a double take at him asking for a sustainable solution

        • sorry to disappoint, if i'm him, i'd probably go after the minister of telecommunications role to give myself a faster broadband or something . afterall, he's collecting ministeral roles like pokemon.

  • faster and easier to just book a test drive with tesla

  • +6

After the test drive: "What advantages does this motor car have over, say, a train? Which I could also afford!"

    • +1

Well, you'll notice how the heated gas pedal warms your feet while—

  • Newcastle event sold out

  • +2

Wish they had these in Melbourne. I've never been in let alone driven an EV. An event like this would satisfy my curiosity and you also avoid entering a dealership!

  • Good idea

  • +2

    What's the speed limit?

I need to know how fast they can accelerate, for research of course…

  • +4

How is this a deal? I have never paid to test drive a car including EVs

    • Wider accessibility of test-driving an EV, as well as the invitation of an open discussion.

  • See how it goes west of Wagga before it goes flat, see if gets to whoop whoop

  • +2

I don't get why any thread related to EVs gets filled with misinformation and general whinging by those that don't want to buy them. OK, then don't? Nobody is forcing you to.

It's like people feel personally attacked because they don't want to buy an electric vehicle.
