Not sure if German made, but a good deal though

    • +3

Correct, this one is made in Poland

    • -8

Make sure to have enough gas to run the machine (.!)

      • +7

I guess the neggers have no idea about what is going on in Germany at the moment.

        • +2

IMO people these days succumb too easily to the beckoning of the dopamine rush they get from shutting people/things down. And they don't follow the news (or they only know the headlines, nothing deeper)

          • +1

@andresampras: Whenever someone negs a comment of mine I have to assume they're sipping a cup of tea at the same time.

    • +1

Yep, just did this with one. Took a few weeks but no issues.

    • +2

Thanks a million! Didn't know about this scheme and just purchased some appliances. Rebate of $417.

      • Every little bit counts

    • +1

got a rebate for 330.75 - didn't realise there was a round 2 for the rebate. thanks!

  • +5

Serise 8 are German made - which is the one I have. But I'm not sure there's really that much difference.
It's great, very energy efficient. But if you need things relatively quickly, don't go a heat pump dryer

Also, it doesn't perform all that well when there's only one or two items in there - so you need to put it on a timed cycle (without the sensor turning it off)

    Overall though, great dryer.

    • +4

I think you'll find the series 8 dryers are made in Poland. (Just my understanding)

      • +2

I've got the Serie 8 dryer and washer. Dryer is made in Poland.

When I was in the good guys showroom, only the washers have the "made in Germany" stickers on them.

    • Thanks for the info, will definitely wait for series 8.

      • +1

check each model. I just saw a series 8 where the listing says made in Poland.

I'm not sure this necessarily means it's inferior to a made in Germany product, however….just check country of manufacture before you make a decision, if it's important to you.

        • +3

I'm pretty sure none of the Bosch dryers are made in Germany.

Series 8 ovens are, but not series 6.

I think both the series 6 and 8 dishwashers are made in Germany.

And maybe none of the induction cook tops?

      • Why “definitely”?

    • +2

I find big items like bedsheets, doona covers - can't just do one or two because they end up in a ball. Need to 'ballast' the machine with a few more items.

Other than that, very happy with it. Most of the complaints seem to be around things that could be resolved by RTFM.

    • +9

Serie 8 Washing Machines are made in Germany.
Bosch washing machines are either made in China or Germany.

All Bosch Heat Pump Dryers are made in Poland- none are German-made. I have a Serie 8 Heat Pump dryer and it's made in Poland.

      • I stand corrected. thank you

        • +3

No worries mate- my research has to benefit someone. Hopefully I saved you hours of googling hahah!

Another way to look at it- Bosch make a huge hoo-ha about their Germanic products on their webpage and you'll see that with their washing machines. If you go to their Heat Pump dryers, not a German flag sticker in sight.

That said, Bosch has exceptional QA and the fact that they're not made in Germany shouldn't put you off. They're an excellent dryer.

    • +2

I think my series 8 is polish. I will look when I get home.
Support your comments on the dryer, but we may not be the best commenters as we mostly line dry anyway and default only use dryers when raining a lot. Also, stepping up from an old style F&P vented dryer, the heat pumps take a long time and do not get stuff quite as dry before stopping.

We had got into the habit of running a shirt through the old dryer for 10 minutes in the morning to get rid of the wrinkles rather than ironing (yeah lazy) but you can’t really/do that with a heat pump and it needs a few more items it work well. At least Bosch ones. I think LG equivalent has a steam function that would do that, but then you run the LG service gauntlet.

The other neg with Bosch heat pumps is they only rotate one way so clothes can get more tangled than if it rotated the other way every five minutes.

  • I only just bought the LG 9 kilo heat pump, and passed this one up because the door opened the wrong way for us

Apparently the German made versions are amazing, but they also made them in another Euro country, and that version was a lot less popular

    • You can flip front load washer/dryer doors on many models (all Bosch ones I’ve encountered anyway)

      • +1

The one we were looking at didn’t have that option.

        Don’t remember the model number

      • I don’t think you can do that with Bosch.

I started with Samsung, had Bosch for a while, now using Esatto for last 1.5 year. Big brands are awesome - no mistake here. I always ask myself are they $500 - $1000 more awesome. From my observations - not really. So here it is, if money is tight - there is nothing wrong with Esatto at all…
Here what I posted in the previous forum when Esatto question was asked:

A a bit over a year ago I purchased Esatto EHDP7 and can't recommend it higher to all of those who value a great (relative) heat pump on very tight budget.
I'm not good at videos, but after creating a couple and seen community response I kept going… For those, who is interested:

Currently have the Esatto EHDP7 for 1.5 years now, still going strong.

My friend recently had their Esatto EHDP7 replaced twice under warranty. In the end switched to an electrolux heat pump and couldnt be happier.

It really comes down to luck I guess. As Most of them are made and assemble in china or made and assemble locally.

      • Do I know you? This just happened to me - but only once. Had the Esatto break down after two years but as it was out of warranty and I don't live in a metro area I could not get it fixed! No locals wanted to repair it and the spare parts were almost the cost of a new machine anyway. Went for an Electrolux. I still have an Esatto washer but very concerned about it now. So be aware you might have trouble getting the Esatto serviced unless you live in a metro area.

        • +1

ACCC might consider the min warranty more than 2 years for whitegoods. Most likely 4 years min.

Thank you jacked heat pump dryer review man, very helpful

      • +1

His singlet probably shrank in the dryer - it was that good at drying

        • +1

LOL, could not shrink for the purpose of review fast enough :-)

      • +2

You're most welcome. Totally not good at this, but I find that so many so called reviews are paid ads. These days really hard to find an objective truths. Decided to call my reviews "No BS" and spread the word. Those that can tolerate my accent and can handle totally unprofessional review can find a thing or two that matters to them. Also, could not find any reviews when I bought my Esatto, so decided to take a lead LOL

        • What was the reason that you switched from Bosch to Esatto?

          • +8

@inasero: Not the best reason, but it is what it is… Family fell apart… Had to look for "value for money" items in my journey as things got a bit tough for a while.

            • +3

@Kapitoshka: That's okay, she doesn't know she's missing out on front row tickets to the gun show

            • +2

@Kapitoshka: That's a perfectly valid reason. No shame in that at all, and I hope it's working out for you now. Thanks for sharing your learning for the betterment of others.

              • +12

@b2dz: Thank you so much for all kind words. To be honest, I also found that sharing is an amazing therapy. Sharing takes very little, but peoples' gratitude is priceless and plenty. I'll keep doing what I'm doing despite of unfrequently getting humiliating comments on my channel. Just would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you out there, OzB community is plain awesome!

    • Prices of the esatto have gone up considerably this year. Given the smaller price diff with other brands, I ended up getting a larger (9kg) machine for a couple hundred more.

      • great, which one you bought and how much?

          $1072 via good guys commercial

Waiting for delivery, so I can't comment on the machine itself.

          • @andresampras: I had one of these delivered 2 weeks ago to replace a Teka 7kg heat pump in which the condenser died and they said by the time they ordered the part and sent a refrigeration technician around, it'd be cheaper to just replace/refund, so I took the refund (from Appliances Online).

I bought the Hisense from TGG Commercial. It dries clothes exceptionally well, like almost too well… I am a bit worried that it's overheating all my clothes and will ruin them quite quickly, but only time will tell. I've experimented with a bunch of settings but am not sure how I can just make it chill out a bit and not go overboard…

The most annoying thing about it is every single time you power it on, it doesn't remember the last setting that you used. You have to turn the knob every time to the setting you want.

The WiFi is a gimmick, the app is total shit and doesn't allow you to change cycles. The only bonus I have found from the app is that it has Google Home support. You can set it up to announce when the dryer has finished - which is great, since my dryer is in the garage and it's quiet. You can also say "Hey Google, how long left on the dryer" and it will tell you.

The front LCD usually just says "AUTO" and doesn't actually give you a count down until the last 30 mins or so of the cycle, but somehow Google knows how long it has left.

It has 3 heat settings, damp, dry and extra dry. Damp is too damp, dry is too try and extra dry is toasty. The Teka I had (when it was working good) also had 3 heat settings, but they weren't as hot as the Hisense. I felt that it wasn't cooking the clothes as much which surely is better long term for them.

It's also quicker than the Teka, even on ECO mode - which lowers the temperature by a few degrees apparently. I tend to put it on ECO every single time, and it's still faster than the Teka. It's also another reason it's annoying that it doesn't remember the settings each time you turn it on.

It has a setting called "Downloadable" which I haven't figured out how to use yet, I think I need to have a look at that - hoping it will let me customise it a bit more with the settings I want and cook the clothes less.

I'd be keen for you to report back your experiences once you receive it!

            • @bonezAU: Hmm from your description, I'm wondering if you have the Haier, and not the Hisense?

              • @andresampras: eh!! sorry, yes I have the Haier 8kg. I totally misread yours, they are a similar price. I wanted the Hisense but there was no stock in WA and they couldn't tell me how far away it was (potentially a month but no guarantees, they said). I needed a dryer asap.

                • @bonezAU: Haha no worries. I'm sure your post will help anyone considering the Haier :)

                  • @andresampras: Hopefully yes! I just started reading up and it does have a memory mode, so at least I'll be able to for example select Synthetic and then turn on eco and anti crease and save those two to memory. It's still a bit stupid that the next time I turn the dryer on it defaults to cotton again, but with one turn of the dial to synthetic it will at least remember those other two options.

I can't find any info about the "downloadable OTA" program, so I'll get in touch with Haier and ask how it works.

I was prepared to pay for a bing brand heat pump but bought the Esatto because it had the longest warranty. 3 years including a free 1 year extension.

It has been flawless so far.

      • Those bing heap pump dryers are well worth the money.

        • lots of subliminal advertising here for bing lee

    • My Bosch S8 failed on me after a long time and I replaced with an Esatto. Build is not as high-end but I think the Esatto does a better job of drying clothes.

      • How long is "a long time"?

        • Hmm, 8 years I think.

          • +1

@qnm: Not ideal, less than the payback period generally compared to going with a cheaper vented dryer.

Thank you for creating the GoodWe videos. It helped me make a choice. Happy with it.

      • You're most welcome. I just wish I could somehow reach out more people. Have so much feedback that it helps and people accidentally stumbled upon my channel. Because I don't do it for the commercial reasons I don't know how to reach wider audience.
Huge thank you for watching and all kind words.

        • I can tell you that when one looks for a GoodWe review on YouTube, from the first 3 videos, 2 are yours.

So, was really fascinated to get this because of OzB but then I looked at this https://www.energyrating.gov.au/dryers

Since OzB is all about the bargain, are you really certain the unit will last 10 years and no change of heart for different styling/tech 5 years later?
Also, I think it takes longer to dry each cycle. Why not save now and re-use that money for something else?

If it was truly about saving on electricity (not talking about the environment as there many factors), they would give that incentive to builders to put it in at the start of the build, that way it is likely to be used for that long instead of the tenant or owner removing it.

    • You mean put heat pump dryer in every building? No way they agree, it's about saving money this days.

    • There are other benefits to a heat pump dryer than purely saving on electricity:

      1. No condensation for one so you don't have to leave a door/window open to vent the condensation
      2. Quieter operation than most conventional dryers
      3. Gentle drying on your clothes compared to conventional dryers
      • Makes sense. I mean, not everyone needs an OLED TV but when it is a bargain..it is a bargain. I suppose this falls into that camp vs saving money on higher upfront investment. Guess I attracted the ire of OzB community for talking sacrilegiously about one of the most vital products here :D

      • I agree with you, but there is one problem with heat pump dryer it's heavy so mounting it on top of the wall is very difficult considering building this days is 100% drywall.

Of cause if you make your own home from ground up heatpump is no brainer but how many of us have that luxury?

        • Most houses/townhouses I've lived in had space for both on the ground. So you don't need to make your own house to be able to do this.

    • They already put heat pump water heaters in new builds, but dryers are not part of a build.

  • +1

is this $114 better than - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284912786653? both made in Poland

Also, Bosch dryers dont have reverse tumble

  • Whilst not many reviews, it appears there are some negatives:
    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/bosch-serie-6-wtr8…

  • -3

And then there's using a washing line for those that have them. (Granted: weather, facilities where you live, laziness…) :-)

    • +2

flogging a dead horse there, aargee

      • It's the great OzBargain tradition.

    • +2

And neighbours with fireplaces than run on wood. Can't wait for that to be banned!

  • I am about to buy but I saw this was manufactured in Poland rather than Germany, should I be concerned/does it actually matter?

    • +5

      It doesn't matter.

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a good stacking kit that would be compatible with this and a Haier washer? I know Bosch make a stacking kit, but would seem overkill to replace our current washer with Bosch so it'll all fit with this dryer too.

  • Anyone know what extension drain hose to get for the bosch? My heat pump is too far from the sink and I need to extend it

    • I had the same issue with my bosh heat pump. The hose the give you is quite skinny…the end doesn't fit over the drain connection thingy under the sink (they are the same diameter as each other) and the adaptor they give you for it is useless. I just got a piece of clear tube and some hose clamps. I'll take a pic for you.

Just didn't quite reach. Don't bother trying to find a longer version of that skinny hose. I went to about 10 different plumping shops and none had. Most had never even seen a drain hose with that diameter before.

      • nicely done! very neat

      • I bought one from ebay. Seemed to be genuine bosch part. The hose is pretty skinny though and the plumber (part of a complete laundry refurbishment) just split the connection and used sealant. Dodgy bugger.
