    Brie Larson: “Captain Marvel wasn’t made for white men.”

    • lol I know that's touchy but please explain..

      • +4

        Didn't happen. She said something similar about another movie. Literal 10 second search showed the claim is false..

    • +1

      Or was it "old white men"?

    • +5

      I do not need a 40-year-old white dude to tell me what didn’t work for him about ‘Wrinkle in Time.’ It wasn’t made for him. I want to know what it meant to women of color, to biracial women, to teen women of color, to teens that are biracial.

      Optus to the penalty box

      • +1

        just as anti men, any male movie critics can talk about what didn't work in Wrinkle in time" or in Captain marvel.

        in fact, anyone can talk about what any movie didn't work for them

        • -1

          Yes they can, but she doesn't need to give it any weight if she's after the target audiences response. Would be the same as me complaining about not feeling moved by the Wiggles music. People would look at me weird and rightly so.

          • +5

            @tonka: hey if she can go out of her way to publicly put down other people's view, then other people can put down her view on other people's view, fair game

            • -1

              @optusprime: Not so much go8ng out of her way as being put on the spot in an interview. I imagine we'd all be perfect in every response in the same situations. Spending hours on end answering the same questions random stuff, personal stuff, stupid stuff. Gotta wonder how people could be so fragile as to still be offended by a couple of fairly tames words so many years later.

              • @tonka: you're the one can't let go that people don't like her and the movie, lol

                • -1

                  @optusprime: But I'm happy you didn't enjoy the movie.

      • +2

        colour

        • +1

          well technically she's American so "color" instead of colour is accurate for the quote.

    • +9

      Brie Larson should have said "I wasn't made for acting"

    • +8

      She forgot to add "Asian men" in as well. I could not tolerate the movie…

  • +16

    The worst of the marvel movies

    • +9

      Externals was worse.

      • +6

        Gemma Chan is great though

      • +1

        I had low expectations with eternals but enjoyed it more than I thought I would in the end. It is fairly low to mid tier marvel though.

      • Dr Strange 2 was worse

    • +8

      They've been pumping the MCU too much lately. Quality control has gone to shit. This is close to but not at the bottom imo.

      • Disney…buy an IP, flog it till its dead and even the fans dont want to see it anymore. dont worry about quality or story as long as it looks good.

    • +5

      Yeah between this and Eternals for me.

      So much so I've completely gone off the MCU.

      • Yall really forgot about Hulk huh

        • +2

          Ruffalo has been robbed. Don't know why he hasn't had a movie.

        • +3

          I liked Eric Banas Hulk!

    • +1

      Yet one of my favourites. True there's no point where One Avenger tries to beat another to death while ignoring the bad guys……..

    • The problem with captain marvel is Omni power. There is nothing she can’t do, no vulnerability.
      Any problem at all, just speed dial Marvel.

      Her story needs her version of Kryptonite.

  • +10

    Expensive coaster

    • I'd buy it for a dollar. I have a broken case I'd like to replace…

  • -7

    All the fragile men coming out of the woodwork in 3, 2….

    • +28

      All the defenders of crappy movies coming out of the woodwork in -1,-2,-3….

      • +2

        The "out of stock" tag would say otherwise

        • +4

          this movie has been in the bargain bin for ages, no wonder it's out of stock, so many poor, unsuspecting mothers and grandmothers probably bought it as a gift for their marvel obsessed children.. those poor kids….

          • @[Deactivated]: Mhm you keep thinking that lmao. Whatever helps you sleep at night bud.

            • +1

              @Loztaco: ditto :)

    • +13

      My partner couldn't stand the movie. There's a line between empowering feminism and shoving it down people's throat. Captain Marvel unfortunately fell into the second category effortlessly.

      • +5

        bad acting as well prob just topped itoff

        • +4

          Waste of Jude Law's talent. The man was literally a walking punching bag with bad dialogues that made him a bit of a halfwit…

      • +6

        I hated the girl power bit in Endgame. Way too forced. The Boys did it better.

        • +1

          i didnt mind- the captain yielding thor's axe just made up for everything..those few seconds

    • +4

      OK Slutty Bianca

  • +16

    Brie Larson is unlikable but the biggest problem is the movie just wasn't really good.

    • +1

      How do you find her unlikable?

      I think the problem is a bad script and poor direction…

      • +3

        Just appears stand offish in interviews in particular the one with Hemsworth and Cheadle.

        • -1

          Interesting, I haven't seen any of the interviews. Would mean too much to watch.

          I first saw her in Community so don't mind her.

        • -3

          So she doesn't seem to fit into a group that's likely egotistical narcissists………

    • It still made a billy though

      • +2

        Sure but I'd bet riding on the good will Marvel had built up. The original directors weren't asked to return for the sequel so that's always a good sign even Marvel weren't happy with it.

  • +3

    Look at all the criticising comment getting downvoted makes me sad. Brie Larson truly played Captain Marvel who is also an utterly unlikable character in Marvel comics which is not a good thing. Waste of my time and money watching the movie in theater back then.

  • How's this compare to "The Boys"?

    • +2

      It doesn't

    • +1

      Overrated vs Underrated

  • I would buy it and donate it to my local library lol

    • +2

      The case is more valuable…. just chuck out the label and disc :)

  • +1

    This movie needs to feature on the popular YouTube series, 'Will It Blend?'

    '…don't breath this, Bree dust'

    • +5

      Nah it's just quite dull

    • +7

      No one hates Black Widow or Scarlet Witch?

      • -6

        Because the actors didn't come out and speak up.

        • +1

          What is this speak up that you're referring to?

          Cos she made particular comments relating to a shitty kids movie. Sounds like you want to keep half the population down.

          • +2

            @Caped Baldy: Nah its cause a bunch of boys got offended and decided to hate her lmao.

            • +1

              @Loztaco: I just don't understand the hate and why people get so butthurt. I didn't like the movie and so I moved on.

              • @Caped Baldy: It's a subculture, every movie or show where a woman crosses into a perceived male gender role cops it. She Hulk is the current target. Wonder Woman and Back Widow probably had enough cleavage out to stay safely in stereotype.

                • +1

                  @tonka: I think that's pretty insulting to Scarlett Johannsson and Gal Gadot. But hey that's just me.

                  • -1

                    @Dream-cast: Pretty sure Scarlett was plenty insulted and said so at some point. Same as Margot Robbie was insulted when she found out her ass would be haning out.

              • +1

                @Caped Baldy: its legit the same type of people who review bombed SheHulk and Ms Marvel before and after they came out. Not liking a movie because you have legitimate reasons for it is fine. Its very easy to figure out why the other majority of people shit on the movie.

      • +1

        Black Widow is awesome. Scarlet witch annoying in a completely different, angst burdened way.

    • +7

      Wonder Woman seems to do pretty well. Are you saying she is weak? Logic doesn't make sense.

      • +4

        The second Wonder Woman movie was pretty terrible though.

        • +2

          WW84 yeah did seem somewhat lost

    • +6

      Nah. It's just a shit movie with a shit actor. No one has any issues with strong women. There are plenty of popular movies with strong female leads.

      • +2

        Yep, love original WW, Tomb Raider Movies and others.

        Doesn't mean I have to like Captain Marvel.

      • +1

        My favourites with female leads (with some that kick ass, too):
        The long kiss goodnight;
        Pans Labrinth;
        Annihilation;
        Jackie Brown;
        Kill Bill: Volume One;
        Amélie;
        Alien;
        Terminator (and number 2, too, but the lead is probably Edward Furlong/John Connor);
        To all the boys I've kissed before (don't judge me 😅);
        Changeling

        I just found Captain Marvel boring and Brie very monotone with her acting (potentially due to the director). I have no issues with any topics, references, political ideals etc. In films so long as they are justified, add to the story or are not token to appease some weird agenda.

    • +1

      then why is aliens so popular?

      newsflash, men don't like being talked down to or viewed as less than, simply because they're men. it doesn't help that the movie just sucked. this doesn't mean that they hate women or are scared of women, that's just just a disingenuous attempt to deflect valid criticism, because if the criticism was invalid, you wouldn't have to resort to attacking the critics, rather than their arguments.

      • It all happened before Captain Marvel even came out. As soon as she was cast it was a witch hunt then a massive beat up of any tiny perceived misstep.

    • +2

      I reckon that story of a problem with men was put about to deflect from the obvious, it is a pretty poor script, and the acting can’t make up for it..

      Men love strong women.
      Actually men just love women. But they really love women they can respect.

  • Ah so this is where Rodney Ruxin's Au Pair Ashley ended up from The League.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFWALz4qOZQ

    • Saw that episode recently. Made me wonder why she took a role in an otherwise very… Uh… "Boy" show.

      • That league episode was well before she got into other movie roles I believe 2011 (not sure what other marvel movies she's in, only know this because she's on the cover)

        • I just thought her beliefs may have been consistent

          • @Faro: Not when moneys involved, people with no values will change based on who's paying them at the time.

  • The 2nd movie has to be better than the 1st.
