Vegemite and lettuce sandwich. The best.

  • +11

I predict next week it will be $1.99.

    • +3

It already is at the fruit and veggies store. Shop local, you can often get better prices.

    • +7

      Hodl?

    • +2

Yes, the supermarket economics of vegetable pricing can be interesting. They try to keep them as stable as possible, which at times means they take a hit wholesale price gets ludicrous, like happened this year for many vegetables.
But it also means they can be quite profitable in gluts. I suspect they will try to keep lettuce above $2 for as long as they can get away with it.
The classic is stuff like Apples where supermarkets try to always price them at $3.99 or $4.99 per kg. That price point has no close relationship with how much it cost colesworths.

    • Should we short it?

  • +1

Saw that today at Town Hall. But all of them are no bigger than a broccoli.

    • +3

Size doesnt matter. Weight talks. Sooooo juicy and gooood!

      • +4

            • +1

@Chocobros: Possible. Also depends on the age. The older ones might be abit dry.

  • Big water melon, box of 12 for $25. Big and heavy. unlike old stock from some greedy veggie shops have been hoarding, yellow, small and light. Which they try to clear off their cool room.

they'll go down once supply is as good plus, everything else is as their standards. I can see some fruits and vegs are down, strawberries are also only @ $2.50/ 250 grs punnets in many places yesterday and today.

    • +2

strawberries are $2.3 at my store and are going down next couple of weeks sub $1 range

  • Cos lettuce were always 2 for $2 in SA. Got to pivot. Kinda like the toilet paper saga. Coles / Woolies had none…Aldi had shelve loads.

    • What would happen if we all HODL and they don't sell anything for week? 🤔

  • One upon a time this was a joke post, those were the good ol days

    • $1 each in Pasadena Foodland.

  • Lettuce pray to the Lord that inflation stop inflating 🙏

  • Received my lettuce in woolies order yesterday, smallest lettuce i’ve ever seen.

  • Forget Crypto and Stocks, buy Lettuce and wait up to a year for a massive return on your investment (No financial advice)

    • So you're saying. We should hodl?

  • Toilet paper, tissues and eggs always runs out quick.
    Why eggs? That’s weird

    • Eggs i understand as that has a short shelf life. Toilet paper on the other hand.

  • BREAK NEWS: Australian inflation rate is now down a full 1% from 6.1% to 5.1%
