Metz 65MXD9500A 65" 4K OLED TV $1899 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ The Good Guys eBay

100
SNSAUGUST

Original Coupon Deal

Been looking for a 65" OLED TV under $2000.

This one is a winner. I bought from eBay, not the GoodGuys directly because their standard delivery is only $130 on eBay (was a lot higher on the GoodGuys website) + I could use the eBay voucher.

Was $2399 during July, then $2999 for past few weeks. I've been monitoring it!

I assume HDMI 2.1 (but cannot verify). Some have suggested it may not be full 120Hz (as advertised).

Metz used to up there with Loewe but i’m pretty sure now it’s just a cheap Chinese knockoff.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metz_(company)

    19 November 2014: Metz filed for insolvency.[4][5]

January 2015: About 110 of the 540 employees will be laid off.[6]

March 2015: Two investors were found.[7] The company will be split in two. The TV business is taken over by the Chinese electronics manufacturer Skyworth as Metz Consumer Electronics GmbH…

Yes. It is not the original German Metz - taking a risk with this as not many reviews. It has the features I'm looking for (I use it with Apple TV anyway) - would be good to compare the brightness with other manufactures though.

    • Why might this matter if the panel is 120Hz OLED? Curious to know.

      • +8

There's more to it than just panels. There's overall build quality and firmware/software.

        • It's got Android TV so that should be better than some other generic TV OS

          • @BargainMe: All things equal then yes. If the tv powering the Android os is crap. Then you get a crap experience.

      • +2

The processing is the questionable bit imo, even though it uses an LG panel, the colour processing and other display features maybe inadequate

That being said I have no idea if this applies to the product or not, as I could not find a lot of reviews either

      • if the panel is 120Hz OLED? Curious to know.

Just like computer, they are all Intel or AMD, so why might this matter?

How about motheboard, ram, chips, etc.

Less then a 1k more gets you a c2 (on sale) may not be worth it too some but your getting a better deal I would think with the c2.

    • How much are the c1 65" deals?

      • I think the historical low was 2500 but has regularly been sub 3k, interestingly I was able to get the c2 cheaper then the c1 at the time of purchase about 2 months ago.

        • +1

Still waiting for a c2 deal to come back like those in July

          • @newtz: Should come back down as retailers are anticipating a recession, there was discussion at the time on the post but didn't want to wait till the end of the year on a maybe

      • C1 65" are probably all gone now. There are still a few 55" around though.

Lg don’t run Android, better get Sony. Android makes huge difference, from vpn to games

At least they have an Australian website, even though it's just says "A GERMAN BRAND". Straight up misleading.

    Metzblue.com.au

    • GadgetGuy suggests "still made in Germany" and "German-made"

    • It is a German band, just different ownership. If they said it's made in Germany, that'll be misleading.

      • It's hard to decipher, but it looks like Metz Classic might be made/assembled in Germany as per their slogan "Made in Germany" and Metz Blue might be assembled in Poland? From this video found on the American/global site

It looks like they're trying very hard to be misleading… this 2018 press release is very suggestive referring to Metz using the slogan “Made in Germany” in a paragraph about the Metz blue brand.

  • Are they on the shop floor in good guys? Anyone seen them?

  • I've never heard of this brand before but if they are selling at retail and has oled, might be decent company.

    • Looks like the parent company, Skyworth, do
go to expos. I would interpret this as they are trying to become a reputable brand.

  • Might be similar to this review… Pretty much "might" be worth a try lol

I'll let you know how it goes! I've not got experience with other OLEDs though

  • Discussed in forum in Jan - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/677591

  • IS this 120Hz, HDMI 2.1 though? Can't find anything actually saying this.

    • I remember reading this when I was researching a while ago - but can't verify now… I'll update the description.

      • +1

the only 120Hz reference I can see is in one of their images, but it doesn't actually clearly explain if it's true 120Hz or not. Honestly if it's not claiming VRR 120 then I'd probably avoid.

    • +1

      No - Not a true 120hz.
States it uses MEMC 120Hz which uses software to insert an extra frame either black or the sometimes same frame/picture twice to double a 60hz frame rate to get 120Hz!
They really shouldn't be aloud to do this….True 120Hz 65" OLED would cost heaps more. It happens on a lot of TVs out there that claim to be true 120Hz. Make sure you read the fine print!
      Also states HDMI 2.0 : 3

      • Where did you get this? Is says ‘Native 120Hz’ for this model.

  • +2

Skyworth is a great brand in my experience. About 20 years ago they were one of the first to come out with a progressive scan DVD player which became a big deal in home theatre circles all over the world including here. It was THE player to get because they had built in a video processor from a top company in that field (Faroudja) that used to only be available as an expensive external box used in high end home theatres. The player was a major bargain compared to the few competitors available or the external processor approach. I bought one, they were only sold out of China not even available in the USA but they sold a lot there.

So they were innovators with top quality products way back then. It could be different today of course.

  • anyone find a spec sheet? interested in peak brightness

    • I tried - can hardly find anything about this TV.

  • Looks like 3x HDMI 2.0 based on the 55” specs here: https://www.metz.com.hk/index.php?route=product/product&prod…

  • +1

Paid 2500 ish for my 65 c1, would defo say pay a bit extra and get alot more.

    • +2

Only if you need it though, I would much rather an average OLED than most LCD's on the market at this price hey

  • Can't find those C1 deals so… just pulled the trigger. Let's see how it goes :)

    • +1

      Any comments on it? :)

    • I am waiting for the LG C1 or C2 deals, but how is the Metz brand ?

  • +2

Use code MEGA to get it for 1800.

I went in and spent half an hour comparing this to every other OLED, and picture wise I am telling you this thing is (profanity) unbelievable. I preferred it to the flagship sony. I did not pull the trigger because i want a 75, but oh my god is it amazing.

    • Thanks amazing to hear! My was delivered today so I'm keen to see how it is!

Did it have the 100Hz and the HDMI 2.1?

      • Also, can get it below 1800 now with PAUGSEP12 (eBay plus) + 3% further with ShopBack gift cards.

      • Can't see it in the specs, do you know if it has ARC?
How's your first impressions of it?

        • Great first impression. It does have ARC and 120Hz. I don't have anything to test the 2.1 HDMI with yet though!

I think the response time for gaming would not be as great as LG though.

          • @The Wololo Wombat: Sounds pretty good, is there a 'game mode' or similar to reduce latency?
How's the built in apps / os in general for FTA? I'd be coming from a dumb aldi tv
It's not in the specs does it have vesa mounting holes? The manual looks like it has 300x200

Haha I was glad when the price went up so I didn't have to think about it, but with today's cashback offer that'd work out to 1760

  • $1800 for 65inch OLED is pretty good, but is this a good reliable product/model?

    • +1

Too new to tell. I unboxed my mine last night - amazing quality in my opinion. 3 year warranty, full 120Hz. Still waiting to test if 2.1 HDMI.

      • I am waiting for the OLED deal. Prefer LG C1 or C2 deal but how is the Metz brand? is the OLED panel from LG Display? or Skyworth Chinese panels?

        • If you don't need it for gaming, I think this TV is great.

  • +2

Had it for 3 weeks now , stunning picture quality only annoying thing is Dolby vision 24 fps switches off all motion processing on Netflix 4K ( I love soap opera effect) for 2k this is a bargain and 3 year warranty buy it.

    • Can you tell if it's 2.1 HDMI or not?

    • I bit the bullet, thanks for being a guinea pig
