[Back Order] Schweigen 120cm Rangehood w/ External Isodrive 3200 Motor DS3170-12SE $3000 Delivered @ Appliances Online

250

Schweigen also has a cashback promo, $350 for spending >= $3K, for purchases before October 3 (though this appears to be a forever-extending promo).

Less with cashrewards/shopback and gift cards.

For a 120cm, it is on the pricier end of the scale but the cashback alleviates this somewhat (plus it is "silent").

Externally mounted 3200m3 motor - there are specific install instructions (needs a separate mount on the wall, ducting has a minimum run length etc).

RRP is a hardly normal $5800. schweigen 2nds outlet is $3800.

Beware! They are well known for defects in the rangehood's control buttons which start failing only after a few months of light use. Basically they not longer hold on when pressed.

I've opened a couple of support cases with them, just plain horrible. They plainly refused to fix them and blame it on a wrong installation (for both claims) even though I used 2 different very reliable companies on each house. Besides, there is nothing too complex about the installation as explained to me by both trade companies.

    • OH no - just ordered a smaller one at the recommendation of the fitter. the 90cm one - is that what you bought?

      • Yes, both are the 90cm version sorry buddy.

Their warranty/aftersales service is crappy to say the least.

        • Are you referring to appliances online or schweigen aftersales service?

We got a schweigen for our previous house and worked well even after 10+ years
Filter latch broke a few times but they replaced it without any fuss. Everything else worked fine.

    • Can you share which installation companies you used? Looking to get one installed as well. You can PM if you don't want to post the names here. Thanks!

We went with an Australian made Whispair and absolutely love it. Fantastic customer service and support and it Just Works. Similar spec to this one and was $2500 delivered as part of their semi regular 20% off sales.

Edit: definitely recommend checking productreview ranking on the brand/model before buying a range hood. Whispair gets 5/5 or close for most of their models.

    • Yeah, the control buttons did not have any waterproofing on the canopy side so eventually they fail. Supposed to have fixed the issue though with new control buttons.

      holy sh*t!

Funny how people laugh at a $7000 rangehood but there are a million threads on ozbargain discussion which OLED TV to buy which run $5000+
I wonder if there are threads saying 'My husband wants a $5000 tv. What to do?'

        • +2

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't rangehoods use simple electronics compared to a tv, let alone an OLED? I suppose with the tv you pay for the tech and multiple usecases whereas the rangehood literally sucks ;)

          • +5

@Currynuts: A $5 hooker also sucks as well as a $1000 one. But plenty of people still buy the $1000 one =)

I enjoy the photos of cheap Bunnings/Ikea kitchens in "renovated houses". Tiny rangehoods which would either sound like a jet engine, or be completely useless and cooking a steak would set off every cheap Bunnings/Ikea smoke alarm in the place.

Does wife stare into rangehood as long as husband stares into TV?

Drove my partner mad yelling SCHWEIGEEENNNNNNNN every time we saw one when we were shopping for rangehoods. Good times.

    • +4

Funnily enough, schweigen means 'remain silent' in German ;)

  • installation is extra and might be expensive too. depending on your roof.

Had one in Canberra. Worked well (& quiet). Pity that possums decided that the duct work looked tasty… PITA.

    • Did you move house, or ditch the rangehood?!

If anyone's keen, I looked at these & ended up with an aussie made Whispair equivalent - great build quality & zero issues so far. You can choose the type/size hood & type/size motor combo you want too.

I went with the Whispair Monte Carlo 90 Superdeep with roof-mounted Pro motor.

Only downside is we kept leaving it on using the lowest setting, as it was so quite compared to the old one!

    • Got the same exact.. however mine isn't silent on the lowest … you need your ears checked lol… still quite happy with it.

    • Can you please tell how much you paid for installation of this particular model.

Fotile is the best for domestic rangehood IMO

  • any reason these couldnt be DIY installed for something relatively handy (ignoring power point related components)
its just a range hood and a ceiling motor?
    seems easy enough :)

    • Better check warranty… the story above isn't inspiring…

    • I suspect the key to the rangehood working as designed (silent, near the 3200m3 that they claim) would be.. install according to the instruction manual. I guess like you indicate, it's not rocket science, it's just metal and a motor. Apart from the electrical connection

For this amount of money go for the Sirius rangehoods. Prosumer grade and stainless steel grills makes them easy to wash.

    • We just did, absolutely magnificent even disregarding the price. My wife is stoked at how the filters come out of the dishwasher too!

I went with whispair… quite happy with it.. cheaper than this and better airflow.

It isn't silent though.. i suspect the schweigen isn't either.

    • Bigger than 3200m3 is huge!

      • I'd double check their specs and how uts measured… half the time they're full of sh1t… I'd want to see it in real life. Usually if you go to a winnings appliances.. you can see for yourself

        • Mine is 2000 and it sounds like a jet engine when I have it on max haha. I'm not in the market but yeah worth checking them out

          • @drprox: Yeah mine on max is loud. I suspect there would be no difference in performance from 3+ compared to 2+ especially taking into account the filters, ducting etc…

    • Cheaper than this?
The whispair external motor is like $1500 alone before you buy the rangehood?

      • Usually they have sales or deals directly on their website..

  • Have this in my house (prev owner installed) . love the silence.

The buttons are still working and it even has an IR remote in case they stop working. So I can now control it with my phone (using a $7.99 iR wifi controller I found on Kogan)šŸ˜‚

PS: it looks like Kogan increased the price šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

  • How much would a retrofit install for these cost?
