just wait 2 more weeks for the iphone 14 announcement.

    • +22

And then couple more months for it to go on sale and couple hundreds bucks more than current iPhone 13.

      • +9

The iPhone 13 will be a couple hundred bucks less than they are now though…

        • +14

I highly doubt Apple will drop their prices when newer model realised. They just keep increasing. Just look at historical rrp of all their iphones.

          • +1

@itstuan: If that was the case the iPhone 12 would still be $1349. But it’s not.

            • @tp0: Yeah but it's nearly 2 years ago. Even when Apple finally drops their prices on older models, it won't be much lower than what discount you're getting right now at other retailers or this deal. It won't be straight away, you might have to wait a while even.
But then again, if you're not in a hurry for a new phone. Better wait it out just to see what's on offer, then decide.

            • @tp0: But it is still more than the 13 price in this deal which makes it unlikely that the 13 it will be availble for any less even after the 14 launch.

          • @itstuan: Sometimes they remove certain models from sale when a new one is released. But retails will try to clear stock

        • +9

The iPhone 13 will be a couple hundred bucks less than they are now though…

Yes, but as Tim Apple would say it's the best iPhone we've ever made

        • It won't be a couple of hundred bucks less than this deal, maybe around the same price. Maybe. Iphone 12 128GB still selling for just under $1,100.

      • Not 2 months. You can buy about a week after the announcement. You'd be a fool to buy an iphone now!

        • +2

if we talkin about base model, they will be pretty much the same, in chip and screen and everything else

      • seems like worth to wait

    • +4

      Sep 7th expected announcement
      Sep 16th expected release

Dates in US time zones, so +1 day for aus

      • +1

Apple sales in Aus first isn't it?

Did they change the rule? release same calendar date?

        • true. could be same date for the release date

announcement is global so I'd expect it at around 3am on the 8th in aus

      • Nah, the dates of release are the dates in whichever country you're in. Past 5 iPhones I can remember, they have been available for order on the Friday arvo.

    • -3

13 and 14 almost same. 14 has to be called 13s. Only 14 pro model will have some changes of processor and looking. And because of shortage of 14 series, 13's price will go up as soon as 14 released. If someone thinking about buying 13 series, this is the right time to buy. Inflation, us dollar goes up, even 13 series' price will hike.

    • Had bought the iPhone 13 for $999 in the previous Telstra deal. With the new phone announcement round the corner, would have expected to go little more cheaper.

  • +14

I am waiting for the 13 mini to go on sale.

  • +5

Was $ 999 for iPhone 13 not long ago. Shall skip it.

    • It did state not the "best ever", but still close to the cheapest its been. 12 at 128GB is still selling for nearly $1,100.

  • +3

iPhone 14 comes out in a few weeks, probably worth noting in the description. 13 & 13 pro will come down even further soon after too.

    • +3

When iPhone 14 pro comes out, the iPhone 13 Pro will be pulled from sale. So if you want a brand new iPhone pro 13, better get it now.
Same thing happened every other previous years. The existing 'Pro' models are removed from sale once the new 'Pro' models are announced.

      • +6

What are you talking about? They don’t just evaporate when the new models are released, they put them on sale to get rid of their old stock lol

        • +6

I think what @illusion99 is trying to say is, you won’t be able to buy rhe “pro” range in Apple Store. Of course places like, JB, OW and other retailers sure still stock them.

        • They do essentially evaporate. When the iPhone 14 pro is released once all current stock of iPhone 13 pro is sold, there will no more restock ever. The iPhone 13 (non pro) will continue to be produced and stocked even when the iPhone 14 (non pro) is released. But not the 'Pro' versions.

If you don't believe me, try and find an iPhone 12 Pro at any retail outlet. You can get an iPhone 12 but not an iPhone 12 pro

          • +2

@illusion99: aren't we about 11 months too late to find stock "on the shelves"? they might have kept the iPhone 12 in production until now, but the 12 pro was likely still available for a few weeks after the 13's announcement.

            • @xrailgun: Yes that was my point. If you're waiting around to get a cheap deal on iPhone 13 pro after iPhone 14 pro is released, you might get one or it might be sold out (and then won't be restocked) by the time you decide to pull the trigger

        • +1

illusion is obviously an apple worker.

      • +1

Yeah but they will bound to fall off the truck somewhere. They are not going incinerate the unsold stock.

        • Legally they are supposed to

      • You can still buy the Iphone 12 Pro to this day so i doubt this.

        • Not at a normal retail store like JB, Officeworks, Telstra etc. You can probably find it on the grey market but not a 'normal' retail store. Happy to be proven wrong through

            • @Drakesy: I never mentioned iphone pro max only that the iphone pro isn't available. The iphone pro max is a different phone to the iphone pro
I can tell why you got confused though because they both have the word 'pro' in their name

          • @illusion99: Costco has 12 pro in stock if anyone is interested…

        • From which Australia retailer?

            • -1

              @Drakesy: Link?

              • @Nillionaire: Just need to read the thread again ;)

                • -1

@Drakesy: That's the 12 Pro Max 512 GB. They only have that specific model because they never finished it's original stock. There aren't many people going for that much storage. There are no other 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max models at JB, so it's clear once they clear their stock, they're no longer sold.

There is also no reason to get that model because it's terrible value. JB is selling it for $2219. Why would you get that when they also have the the 13 Pro Max 128GB for $1849, 256 GB for $2019? If you really want 512 GB the 13 Pro Max 512 GB is $2369 at Apple. If you're spending that much money, it makes no sense to go for the year older model to save $150. That's why it's still in stock. It being in stock does not mean illusion99 was wrong.

      • Retails will still have them. Just not Apple.
However - they will dry up as apple won't wholesale more

  • +3

When people say "the price will come down when the iPhone 14 comes out" historically what kind of price drop occurs? $950? or $800?

    • +8

Not as much as any of us would like.

    • +4

IPhone 12 price is around $1080 still

    • -2

      The 12 mini 128GB was 769.

      • That was an aberration, definitely not normal for them to be discounted so heavily.

        • A sales is a sales. That like saying the bargain price Samsung flip 3 on Amazon prime day is an abberation. There will be similar price to the flip 4 again next year since Samsung admitted to producing more foldables phones.

The iPhone 13 mini might not be price the same during a stock clearance sales due to inflation and Apple not making the 13 mini in abundance quantity but there is no doubt a deal will come.

          • @ChickenAdobo: I don't disagree, just noting that it was unusual and people shouldn't count on it happening again.

    • +1

talking about 100-150 bucks not much not worth the wait if you need one now

  • Ends 29th August, does not appear to need mobile plan.

T & C : When you add to an Upfront Mobile plan. Offer ends 29 August. 5G rolling out in selected areas on selected plans.

    • I tried proceeding on the checkout without a mobile plan, however did not complete the order. Appears to work without adding a plan.

  • +6

Permission to conduct a credit check

Why does Telstra require a credit check to purchase a phone outright?

    • +1

Legacy process mentality. They'll do the same process even if it is not needed. Not worth getting a hit on the credit score. Thanks for pointing this out.

      • Question is, does it really do that the check, even if it said it would?

        • A lot of energy and NBN RSPs do the same thing - collect ID data for an alleged credit check but you see no enquiry on your credit report in subsequent months.

        • No they don’t actually do the credit check if you’re buying outright (I bought one for $999 a month or so back).

          • @get-innocuous: Can i ask, are these locked to telstra? Is that a stupid question

            • +1

@Dowhat: Not a stupid question. And no it's not locked.

  • For someone who is after a phone almost ASAP around the $1500 mark the 13 Pro 256gb seems like the perfect sweet spot for value.

The 14 will come out without Promotion, extra camera and the added ram, is there a reason not to get it and wait?

    • Better front facing camera maybe

    • If youhave that money on hand right now. 2 weeks wait is nothing. Better to have the latest and greatest then rocking last year model. The pill shape notch will be a looker to iphone users.

    • Several reasons if the rumours are true:

      • 14 pro has no notch, just a pill cut out
      • 14 pro has 8k recording video
      • 14 pro to double storage

      cons
      - 14 pro set to have a price increase

Note, this is worth the wait if rumours are true

  • +4

$50 more then last deal, what are they smoking or taking…..

    • +2

I'm still rocking my iPhone 11, ever since Apple got fined for making their phones deliberately slower when they age, i've found they last longer.. surprise surprise…

      • But but but they did it for the benefit of their consumers. That's why they deliberately not told anyone about it. Only fessed up when they got caught. For the consumers benefit my balls. More like planned obsolescence.

      • +7

The whole "deliberately slowing down their phones" thing was way overblown.

What they were doing was underclocking the SOC when the battery was so worn that it couldn't provide the required power to the SOC. The alternative to doing this was simply letting the phone crash and reboot. Out of having a phone that works but is a bit slower vs having a phone that crashes frequently and reboots, I'll take the slower one every single time.

Should they have told people they were doing this? I guess? Maybe a warning about replacing your battery would have been the best thing to do.

        • I'm totally with you, the issue is that when people went into Apple stores they were told that old phones get slow, buy a new one…. rather than if you merely get the battery replaced it will give your phone a new lease on life. Otherwise and especially after the backlash I think Apple handled this quite well.

        • -1

I love it when people on the internet think they're much smarter than the judges that actually listened to the case and deliberated on it under intense scrutiny.

Sure mate. It was all just a honest mistake. Between you and your friend.

          • @[Deactivated]: What I said was literally why they did it. We don't all agree with judges on everything, and they're not always right.

    • cheaper than the current iphone 12 price for the same memory model though.

  • -4

What’s the best price for iPhone 12 256gb, Thanks :)

  • +2

    Will JB price match this?

    • +1

      No

    • +1

I got mine matched at the last Telstra day 2 weeks ago then used gift cards for another 10%. Need to try luck though. I rung 6 stores nearby and finally got a store manager nice enough to do it.

      • @corgicorgi how did u manage to get 10% off JB gift cards? thnx

        • Woolies gift card promo for Him gift card. It was on OZB.

  • -7

Some people are easily pleased, have too much money, or are stupid.

    Perhaps all three.

  • +1

Been android uses since the beginning, might take a switch once i get 13 mini on sale

    • +1

Same, I was a Nexus 4->Nexus 6P->Pixel 2XL->Pixel 5 user. Switched to iOS. Apart from the initial transition period, I am quiet happy with the iPhone 13 Pro. My primary reason of moving was lesser guaranteed updates on Pixels.

      • My iPhone 8+ is still getting updates, 5 years on. Apple is great for that, though for obvious reasons the longer you go on the more struggles the phone has but the fact I am on the same firmware as devices out this year with all the security patches and whatnot is great.

        • Agreed, in the end I realised for most things the app experience on both platform are pretty much the same

    • Comparative battery life of current generation almost made me switch. Until I remembered.

They still refuse to do usb c. Everything else I own is usb c.

So (profanity) lightning, and (profanity) apple until they come to the table.

  • Bracing for price increase on next iPhone…
Guessing $2099 for iPhone Pro 14
