    These are awesome phones!
A great alternative to Chinese built options.
Built solid, long battery life, great camera.
Jealous I can't cash in on this option.

    • +3

Hardware yes, software no. Owned an Asus Zenphone max pro m2 and they bricked the phone with an software update. And this happened to almost all of the people that owned the model. Their software team is incompetent and not fit for job and don't get me talking about customer service. They don't even know what that means. Wouldn't recommend buying an Asus phone.

      • +1

        Sad to hear : (

I've had the ZenFone 2 and 3 and they both lasted years with no update related problems.

My ZenFone 2 even got ran over by 2 cars when I dropped it from my scooter on the highway and the screen still worked despite being shattered.

ZenFone 3 got ripped out of my phone holder by a road rage driver and thrown into the ground. No screen broke (great case) but the camera stopped focusing and started vibrating and buzzing when it tried to focus.

No software problems either. I just turned it on after a year of not charging it all it powered up and received messages like a champ

  • The AliExpress site and seller be trusted?
Any intel on when the AU version will be available?

    • +7

AE is basically amazon for china. And seller is the official ROG store.

      • +2

I'm loving AliExpress. Just a few minutes ago ordered a Hidizs S9 Pro DAC for $150.

Easily north of $220 over here.

      • -3

Pseudo Chinese store. Mostly owned by Japanese.

        • Lol people on Ozb are too slow to understand intelligence here.

But as of recently you're wrong as he dumped the shares.

          • @plmko: Jack Ma hasn't been the main share holder since 2019. That's what makes me correct, not wrong.

        • AliExpress is owned by Alibaba Group, which is owned by Softbank Group, which is Japanese.

    • +2

Personally I wouldn't buy through Ali.
      Great phones though

    • I ordered around 8-9 phones from Ali express.. never get any problem.. not in service or not in phone.. arrived always in 15-20 days….

  • +8

Can't wait for the price to start dropping on these. Seems like the best small form factor Android phone I have seen in ages

    • How much more you think this will drop?

If I stay android I will probs get this to replace my pixel but still looking to move to iPhone 14 Pro if that isn't priced ridiculous

      • +5

I mean the phone just released today and Android phones tend to drop in value pretty quickly. Maybe 700 by the end of the year at least I reckon, although we'll have to see what the global supply chains will have to say about that.

Personally I'm waiting until next year because I'm not in a rush but have been looking for small form factor replacement for ages

      • +4

Zenfone 8 dropped from 999 to 749 at JB in about 3 months (based on a quick OzB search) so hopefully similar sales price around November

    • +3

      5.9" = small form-factor?
      hah

      • +1

This is how i felt holding my s22. It's too big to feel compact and i might as well go up to 6" and a bit and get a proper 5000mah battery. i'll never fall for the compact hype again. Those days are long gone. The last proper compact phone was my s5, by s7 they'd got too big. I dont care about your stupid s10e it's no better. Once you're over that compact size, slightly over is not any better than a (profanity) off powerful 6.5" beast with a decent enough screen to actually use as a computer replacement and have all day battery life.

        • iPhone mini series is pretty good if you want compact

    • It's got the gimble!

  • Any idea which variant this is? It says global version, but I've read that there may be an A, B and C variant. https://www.reddit.com/r/zenfone/comments/wehch1/what_is_the…

    • I was actually looking for it to post the bands cos I know people are crazy about that, but I couldn't find which variant it was. :(

    • +4

      In the ad it says

      1. The phone have Google Play Store and support Multi-language?

Yes, this product is the Chinese version. We will open the box to install the global firmware. This product supports Multi-languages, Google Service, OTA update.

      • Does the Chinese version have 5G band n40?

don't buy ast Sh!t from AliE

    • +1

      Why not
99% of my items I've ordered have arrived as described, and on time

  • +1

How do you get screens fixed for these phones which are not local? Asking as my wife has tendency to drop them.

    • -1

      She should avoid red meat…

    • +1

ZenFone 9 should end up in local market, but to answer your question, if it were me I'd source the replacement part myself and then approach the store about fixing it. I did exactly this for replacing the back of my OnePlus 7 Pro.

  • My experience owning a zenfone 8, the gorilla glass victus scratches super easily. Glad they switched the back to plastic because ironically, I dropped the phone on the back and it shattered which is exactly what the victus at the front is supposed to mitigate. So I managed to get the worst of both worlds.

  • $1090.44 for the black 16gb/256gb is very tempting. Will this incur import tax being over 1k?

    • Yeah you'll have to pay duties over $1000

      • I'm curious, does it actually get flagged for being over 1K and customs holds it? If not, what actually happens?

  • +1

This is the phone I'd buy for my wife but it's only $200 less than I paid for my P6Pro… Doesn't seem like such a deal.

  • +2

Estimated delivery on Oct 10, wow that's long way to go. I reckon the phone will launch in Oz next month. With in two to four month we will easily get an discount sale. Better to buy here than grey import.

  • Has Asus upped their game for android update support?

    • +1

      2 years OS + 3 year security

      • +1

Source? All I see is always "2 years OS + 2 year security"

  • -1

4300mah seems like a small battery for a 1k phone, regardless of how fast it can charge. At 120hz and a SD8+, oof, i cant see it lasting very long. IMO from experience android battery management isnt the most refined.

    • -1

those 120 hz screen sap juices and SD 8+ is also a drainer on battery

    • +5

you are wrong, watch the reviews

    • +3

For 5.9'' i think it's one of the better battery life Android phones out. Not sure how you'd fit bigger than a 4300mAh battery in a phone with vapour chamber cooling in a compact form factor. But I'd like to see what happens with the iPhone 14 Pro before buying this

    • Much better than the iPhone 13 Mini which costs more.

  • +1

I've had issues with getting phones without proper declaration of versions, I'll wait until in store I think or if listing gets updated. I don't think a firmware change is going to give you all the bands for AU, right? Isn't that hardware based?

  • +1

these only has 2 major OS
updates from Android 12 to Android 14 that's it

    • That's why ASUS made Zenfone 9 kernel sources public.

  • +2

phone would've been an absolute monster if it just had wireless charging

    • Wait for Xperia 5 iv. Way better phone than this.

      • Oh TIL! I thought they gave up on the "5" series lol

      • Good luck importing them and getting local repair though…

  • Is this phone being locally delivered or not?

    • China

  • +1

Ticks all boxes except wireless charging :(

  • how does this compare to oppo find x2 pro

  • Really really really can't wait for this phone, but I think I want to see it in person first. Hopefully jb will have this on display at some point

  • -4

    peak of infation
buying $900+gst worth of phone from ali???
not even 6 inch, 4300 mah Battery, 50mp camera ….big naah jack

    • You do realise not being enormous is a selling point for many people, right? I prefer to be able to comfortably use my phone with one hand, not like some 6.7" monsters.

      • yeah I get your point, though I'ld rather go pixel, samsung phones pick under 6inch size
at least they offer decent battery plus guranteed OS support for 5 years of their security patches
        but choice is yours !!!

        • Not a fan of s22 with the shitty overheating chipset (snapdragon 8 gen 1 as opposed to snapdragon 8 plus gen 1) and overpriced in general

As for Google pixel, not really sure if they have good chipset but definitely much better alternative compared to samsung

The thing with OS support is that if there is a big enough community for it (I. E. Good phone), there's a good chance there will be people working on custom rom for it, opening a path for longer support (albeit unofficial, sure)

      • That's right I want to be able to use my phone with half a hand and as light as feather pillow

  • Is JB getting these in?

  • Wonder if they'll have the same ramdump issues as the ZenFone 8…

  • This or Pixel 7

    • 7 but you get to wait another two months.
I noticed samsung pretty quiet in 2022 compared to 2021. so I receommend keep an eye on their website too. their trade in offer is best on the phone market of I know.

    • Picsale 7> 5 years updates! And quick fast updates since gigly, makes picsale

    • Pixel 7 is not really "compact"…

      Dimension Pixel 7 Zenfone 9
      Height 155.6mm 146.5mm
      Width 73.1mm 73.7mm
      Depth 8.7mm 7.9mm
  • +1

A 1000aud product with Aliexpress taking care of warranty? Yeah, nah!

  • Slight side topic, when/if jb do carry this phone. What is the JB accidental damage cover like?

  • -1

Best get a Poco f2 pro or Poco f4 pro, your wallet will love you.

But if you want performance legion y90

  • +1

Does anyone know when the phone will be available in Aus? A couple of sources mentioned the 31st of August but doesn't seem like any of the local stores are stocking them.

    • +1

Yeh, waiting for availability within AU stores like JB or OW. I wonder when this phone is coming to AU "officially".

      • +2

Had a chat with JB rep when I enquired on Telstra deals and they mentioned they definitely are getting the Asus Zenfone 9 but he don't know when.

        • Confirmed with ASUS officials today. This is what they said: "Be advised that ETA for Zenfone 9 in AU is October to December 2022"

  • +1

Codes expired, JB still doesnt have it, now shipping is mid Oct or late. RIP
