Doesn't apply to WA. Our lettuces were never under $1 AFAIK

    • +5

Mate lettuce grows like weeds… throw a $2 pack seeds down in May and the WA rain will grow them over winter… hmmm I just realized I mow the lettuce bcos I have so much of it. Not iceburg… various cos lettuce.

      • +1

        cos

        Why?

        • Not?

        • +2

Cos it ain't cabbage masquerading as lettuce.

  • +28

With the lettuce price coming down, is this a good time to buy and hold long term?

    • +13

Hold it more than 12 months you may get 50% CGT discount :)

    • +1

      Lettuce save inflation!

    • -3

is this a good time to buy and hold long term?

I invested in lettuce futures early this year, so am good for the next 3 years…

      • Definitely buy and replant, you will double your return (more so the ones with roots)

  • -4

Fluctuating fruit and vegetable prices aren't a bargain.

    • +54

Just lettuce have this one, man.

      • +20

        Leaf 'em alone.

      • +6

Upvoted this comment cos of the pun

      • Agree, just cos it's lettuce, doesn't mean it's not worthy of a bargain!

        • +3

          Yes, should romaine a bargain

    • +4

Sorry Dandaman21, but I'm gonna have to arugula with that statement.

      • +1

        Why disagree? Just cos?

    • +6

Are you crazy!? Lettuce has knock-on effects across numerous industries… KFC will now have to reduce their prices, or explain their price-gouging, cabbage growers will now "need" government subsidies after investing in infrastructure to increase production to supply all the fast food places who were replacing lettuce with cabbage which isn't needed now, sporting goods manufacturers will start loosing sales as people no longer think, "Humph! Smaller than a softball!!!" every time they see a lettuce resulting in less sales of softballs, and fertiliser producers will have to increase deliveries of horse shit to lettuce farms again instead of to parliament house which means politicians won't have the mouth diarrhea available to scaremonger the next "threat" that's actually 10x less than their lies and how will they give exempt themselves while gaining more excessive unnecessary powers then!?

    • +3

They're just trying to get a head

    • +4

agreed, if we allow this then when will it end??

this is just the tip of the iceberg

  • +8

    HODL!

  • +2

Not a deal.. 2$ standard price

Icebergeddon - Investors are selling off riskier assets because central banks are raising interest rates to combat quickening inflation.

Iceberg Lettuce has lost 75% of its market value since the recent peak @ around $12

    • +1

You could say that it’s all coming to a head. A slightly shrinking head

  • +2

More like OzAnnouncement than a deal itself :/

  • +4

    Kfc, buy it!

    • +1

They are still behind the times, lettuce save them with this deal!

First thing still seen on their landing page.
      Heads up
Due to recent weather, we're currently experiencing a lettuce shortage (except NT & SA). So, we're using a lettuce and cabbage blend for all products containing lettuce until further notice. If that's not your bag, simply click 'Customise' on your chosen product and remove lettuce from the Recipe :)

      • yeah, last week mc gave me lots of lettuce in their burger, and free glass haha

      • +1

I never realised lettuce couldn’t cross state lines. Sad.

  • +2

I think I'm going to faint…I can finally afford to have something leafy again.

    • Go hug a tree

  • +1

Saw them too but quite small

  • +7

Please take down this deal, I want to buy a lettuce on the way home and flex as I walk through the mall. Doesn't have the same appear if they know it's only $3
Have been flexing lately by putting a lettuce on full display in the trolley, but at this price I can actually take it through the checkout..

    • +9

Have been flexing lately by putting a lettuce on full display in the trolley,

Tried that once. Got mugged. Never again

  • +1

Rip, just paid $2 for a bag of shredded lettuce 3 days ago at IGA because they were still $7 there.

  • Normality returns!

    • +1

Apart from floods, fires, global pandemic & war everything is cool and normal.

      • None of that is happening in my world, so it's all good 👍

  • +3

Can't believe it's actually a deal nowadays thanks to all market drama atm…

    • +2

I guess the greens are pushing their agenda hard

      • +1

We can always trust the Greens to be frantically thrusting away at something back there…

(And think of the poor dogs… and children: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXH3qbaydK8)

        • They said greens (the type of vegetable), not Greens (the political party).

          • +2

@idonotknowwhy: Uh, I know. It's called humour… specifically, a segue. Remember humour? Before the pearl-clutching hypocrites tried to do an Amber Turd in its bed?

    OzAnnouncement

  • +1

    • +1

      I like it

    • Not any more. Lettuce rejoice.

  • +1

Wow.. thats cheap.. salad everyday, every meal from today onwards

    • +2

You don't make friends with salad though.

      • Maybe he doesn't want to make friends and just want to be by himself and his salad. Nothing wrong with that.

  • +3

Does anyone else not care if they ever eat lettuce again…? I mean it has minimal nutritional benefits, and unless it's used properly then it doesn't add much to a meal (I do enjoy san choy bow for e.g)

    • prefer cabbage

    • +2

I love to put lettuce on tacos, burgers etc to pretend I'm healthy.
Oh and salads are cool too.

    • +2

Absence of lettuce not a problem, fast food chains putting cabbage on junk food, that was the travesty.

    • It's not always about health benefits. Lettuce can add texture. A bit of crunch when there's a lot of other softer textures like on a burger for example.

Also, if you're knocking lettuce for minimal nutritional benefits, then damn, you must eat really well! :D

  • +1

    $290 for iceberg ?

  • +3

    Can someone let KFC know?

    • I think they know. No cabbage in my burger.

      • +1

Oh thank god. I think KFC did it just for publicity.

  • +3

What's the size like though… still softballs with nearly no leaves, which I often notice are also slimy-brown at the stem?

    • +1

This is OzBargain. I think you might be better off asking this question at OzValueForMoney

  • +1

Also, $2.90 for heads of cauliflower!

    • +2

Sweet! It’s the tale of two heads!

  • +1

  • +2

I have such a new appreciation for lettuce. I got a McChicken the other day and I made sure I ate every last scrap of lettuce that fell out. It was like eating caviar.

  • I haven't bought an iceberg lettuce since the 90's.

  • +1

    • You would need to hodl for now.
