Does anyone have experience to share if this is worth going to and what there is to do here?

    • +29

Basically just a place people drive to in order to have sex in the car.

Let me know if this has changed haha

      • +33

The sex part is included in this deal or not ?

        • The sex part is included in this deal or not ?

Depends on whether big bubba "prison dog" Jim is there on the day or not.

I would like to know too. Have a collection of condom deals still to use

        • Do you have hands?

      • Magicmagic asked for someone with experience.

      • I did it all for the Nookie

      • +1

damn people paying $8 for a root?

        • +2

Some people would call that a bargain!

      • +1

Didn't know this was a thing hah!

        • +2

          It's not.

If it's not misty/cloudy then it is definitely worth it for the view across melbourne. Other things there that might be of interest are a garden maze, restaurant, walks and a giant chair that nobody can walk past without jumping on and taking a photo.
The sex in car part happens somewhere else nearby - nobody pays to go into a car park for that!

  • Says for 2017?

  • Where is the voucher, is it just the photo at the bottom of the page linked?

  • +2

What exactly is the entry? Looks like a restaurant basically?

Who pays to go into a restaurant?

    • +9

There is a park, a maze and the viewing area overlooking Melbourne and the bay.
Many people go there for a picnic.

Let me reply for JV, you're saying you're amazed at what you are viewing

plus no random emphasis on a word, they might have been hacked

The planets must be realigned well today

  • +1

It's a beautiful place that is now becoming overpriced (like many other retailers) and even when paying for parking there was hardly any space. Good luck finding space esp for free!

  • +2

Have they ever found the missing plane that crashed up there?

  • +1

Not worth it, there are better free entry places in mt dandenong

Everything there is pretty expensive. I remember heading there in 2007 to see Comet McNaught back in 2007. Was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The restaurant is "Meh" and you're better off enjoying a pub through one of the towns on the way down. I suggest the Pig & Whistle in Olinda.

Was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

Still complaint worthy though, I see. Pig and Whistle is only 'on the way down' if you're going via Burwood Highway.

It's always been free to walk in.

    • +3

The true Ozbargainer way. Plenty of parking at Bourke's Lookout.

  • If you spend $50 (from memory) or more in the restaurant, you also get a free entry ticket for next visit.

  • +2

It's free entry every day if you live within 10kms. https://www.skyhighmtdandenong.com.au/vip-passes/

    I live 9.9kms away :)

    • Lucky! I'm 11kms away, but they still sent me the VIP card anyway.

  • dam you gotta pay to go in there now

  • +2

Head to Burkes Lookout nearby instead - then you have unobstructed views of the city. Its like a 5min walk from a carpark

It's not worth going to even free.

    Go to RJ Arboretum instead.

Get some dinner at the pig and whistle.

  • i was there back in January i assumed it was free then
or is there a paid option where you park your car?

    • It was free during covid for a while. If it's not free, you'll know because there will be someone at the booth on entry.

  • Just park at Glasgow/Sheffield road and take a stroll up the fire trail to Ridge road.

    • Even if the entry is free? Why? Is it a scenic track or something?

      • Scenic and difficult

        • +2

I was being a bit facetious. It's a bit more than a stroll. People use it to train for Kokoda!

Something not mentioned to date is that this is the very top of Mt Dandenong - where the GTV9 TV tower is - so the views are pretty good provided its not foggy or raining (forget it then). A visit to the carpark was a standard part of any family drive through the Dandenong Ranges in the 50's and 60's and there was a very basic cafe, a pretty interesting Camera Obscura (look it up), a playground and everything but the cafe was free. At some stage (someone mentions 1992) they decided to charge for entry to the carpark and that was the last time I actually went in, though I have been up that road a few times since then before I remembered.
The cafe was replaced by Sky High Restaurant many years ago which appears to be the classic one visit tourist trap, high prices and questionable quality. I haven't been for years though so by all means do your own research on TripAdvisor etc. That probably explains the carpark charge, as I expect it pays for the person on the gate who is effectively a security guard to keep out the riff raff and manage the punters outside. So what used to be a lovely, free stop off on the family outing became a 100% commercial enterprise extracting whatever it can from unsuspecting tourists. Nice.
As mentioned above there are plenty of other spots around the D Ranges that are worth visiting but unless you are bringing in a minibus of interstate visitors to show them an admittedly impressive view of Melbourne and burbs, I would skip the $8 and look elsewhere. Or hurry up and use this deal.
