Your Telstra ID does not have any services added to it.

That's right. I abandoned Telstra 7 years ago. Dang!

    • Me too. I have over 5,000 points, an active Telstra id but no current services. It would not let me redeem them :(

      • +3

Activate a $2 telstra sim perhaps?

      • +3

You can transfer the points to family or friends or even me rather than let Telstra keep them.

      • thats weird, i had 30k points with no active service, was able to redeem 15k and sent the other 15k to my mate via chat.

  • Does this work with Telstra prepaid?

    • +2

Don't see why it won't; they're Telstra customers

      • +7

Thanks, can confirm the offer works with prepaid.

        • +3

Better than that, I have an expired Telstra prepaid SIM with no credit on it (from last month) and was still able to redeem the offer.

  • +21

If you cancel immediately does it stay active for 3 months?

Edit: confirmed I cancelled and it will stay active until 15 Nov

    • +1

      Thanks.

      Joined and cancelled immediately.

      • +1

You can cancel already? Don't you gotta wait till the last minute?

        • yeah i thought the same as when i cancelled my free apple tv+ sub i got with buying a new iphone it stated that the free trial would end immediately after the cancellation, but maybe with telstra it's different

          • @billsa: Apple is amazingly c^*ty about that… they make every other company that uses the App Store honour subscriptions til the end of the period advertised even if canceled, BUT doesn’t apply the same rule to itself.

  • +3

I don't get apple TV. What's exclusive and interesting to it other than ted lasso, and justifies the monthly fee

    • +38

Severance is another really great show

      • +25

        Severance is 150% worth watching

          • +6

@Maz78: You would hate breaking bad and many other great dramas too.

            • +5

@onlinepred: On my first watch through of Breaking Bad. Last night watched the episode about the fly in the lab. One of the slowest episodes of TV I've ever watched. Loved it!

              • +1

@chefff: Whenever there is a really slow episode of a show we are watching, my partner always refers to it as "another fly episode". It's been long enough that I had almost forgotten where that originated from.

        • We watched it while on parental leave with a new baby. Not a good idea (but great show though).

    • +5

There's a few good bits and pieces but I wouldn't pay for it.
I watched Wecrashed which was good and Coda.

    • +23

Severence, See, For All Mankind, Black Bird, Foundation, Slow Horses… there's heaps of good stuff

      • +3

        Another vote for Slow Horses

      • For All Mankind looked boring, but was pretty good. Looking forward to the next season.

    • +3

Plenty of good quality shows to binge through over a month or two then cancel, just like any streaming service these days.
There's not a single one that I'd pay for 12 months consecutive any more.
For All Mankind and Foundation make my list. Ted Lasso was a nice bonus.
The upcoming (eventually) Masters of the Air.

      • Prime? About the only one that bundles absolutely everything into it like free deliveries, photos, music (some), cloud storage, games, etc. Excellent value..

        • +1

          Even Prime.
I don't actually find that Amazon has notably better pricing than eBay and it's also not that hard to get Free Delivery anyway by reaching the spend limit.

Photos isn't available on an Australian Sub (unless that's changed recently)

Prime Music works ad supported without a sub… Prime Music is pretty rubbish anyway unless you buy the Music Unlimited. Ad Supported Spotify is more feature rich especially in-browser where you can listen to albums. (Plus I have a Turkish Youtube Music sub)

5Gb "free" Cloud Storage is no better than any of the actually free offerings from alternatives like Onedrive or Dropbox.

Games, well I'm not much of a gamer, but yeah, maybe for others.

Prime Video has some OK content occasionally.. worth it for a month or two when the stars align and you want something with free delivery and/or there's something worth watching running.
I'll likely re-subscribe to catch the LOTR series and Wheel of Time S2.

    • +4

You can always just not buy it and stop caring about why other people are buying it

      • -4

        Why would I do that?

    • +1

For All Mankind - highly recommended. I think it's good when they have certain new shows, so only good for a few months.

    • Black Bird is pretty good as well.

    • Tiny World

  • Anyone confirm if telstras call centres have actually moved onshore?

    • -1

Isn't that only for customers who pay a premium?

    • -4

Yes…BUT watch the telstra wording "australian", while they are here in "australia" they are using the cheapest labour / staff they can get…e.g NOT all staff are "australian's" of clear australian english / understanding / language

      • -6

        A bit racist there

        • +11

not racist at all, commentor is just stating facts.
there are plenty of new australians who do not possess a perfect grasp of english - some end up in call centres/customer facing roles.
FWIW, i am a new australian and in my job I deal with many other new australians and often communication is hard.
not sure that the racist card needed to be pulled for this.

          • +1

@battler: Yes good points. You would think it would lie with the employer. IE clear, understandable spoken English is job requirement, given that is is a customer facing role and English is the spoke language of the country.
Everyone has a hair trigger on the racism card these days.

          • -1

            @battler: Australian. Mate.

        • If it's racist to notice someone has poor English skills, isn't it just as racist to even expect them to speak English in the role though. And wouldn't that force me to be even more racist by having to ask for someone who could speak English.

      • @duco65 I have to agree, I was trying to resolve an issue the other day and I could not understand 99% of what "Andrew" was saying.. He was clearly of an Indian heritage and new to the English language..

      • +3

So kinda how you butchered that entire sentence?

      • Well if Telstra paid higher wages to their call centre staff then I'm sure that they'd attract people who grew up/educated in Australia. Clearly if they're only attracting "new australians" who possess english skills that don't meet your standards, it's simply because the wages offered by Telstra to their call centre staff aren't attractive towards established Australians who have better english skills. At the end of the day, it's not racism, it's just business/economics.

    • are u looking to work there?

    • Can confirm, our little town was a product based called centre with 60 ppl. Now branched out to accounts, internet. Workforce has grown to 250 in 3months and hiring another 300. All ‘Anglos’.

    • what happened was a lot of call centers had to shut down due to covid

    • Not in my experience. I filed a TIO personal account NBN complaint recently and the Telstra rep who (barely) handled my complaint was from an offshore call centre, confirmed by the department's receptionist.

  • +8

Worked with Telstra prepaid without an active recharge.

    • So just buy a 2 dollar sim then?

      • +1

        I assume it should work.

I have a prepaid service that I recharge once or twice annually and that worked for me.

  • If I sign up for this with my account, can I still then get the 6 months free via PlayStation?

    • +6

Can confirm that I just signed up to the 6 month PlayStation offer, and then followed the prompts with this deal and says next billing date May 2023. Nice.

  • +6

    Pachinko is amazing on this

  • Thanks OP. Cheers

  • Stupid question, do you need Apple device to stream or can use Mi Box or Android devices ?

    • Here's the link to the Apple TV+ app in the Play Store for Android TV / Google TV - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.atve…

      • Sweet. Thanks. Not compatible with my Xiaomi phone. Will try with Mi box later

        • I had to side load it onto my Mi box. Works fine in 1080p on the TV it's connected to. My Sony TV I side loaded the app to, loads fine however when playing back, it's all pixelated and broken stream due to 4K. I could try the Mibox on the Sony TV but might just grab a Chromecast with Google TV and run it from there as it's officially supported on that device.

    • I have it on my chromecast google tv

    • Apart from the Apple TV+ app or casting, you can also stream using the Chrome browser after signing in. Doesn’t work with Brave for me though.

    • Android TV only on the Android side of things

  • +4

    Invasion and Severance is amazing

  • +2

Currently enjoying my 6 months of free apple tv for having a PS5. Will tack this on at the end given it doesn't need to be redeemed until 2023.

    • +1

I just did this and yes, it tacked onto the end. Next billing date May 2023

      • -1

I’m back into apple now and they have given me this

…like you were already advised, our guidelines and procedures state that accounts can only enjoy one free trial. We don't have guidelines to skip this or bypass it as it is on the way the system works. If other people found workarounds that aren't from our support team maybe they can assist you with what they did as we wouldn't have that in our system as it goes against our terms and conditions and in fact shouldn't be a possibility

    • -2

Let me know how you go with that - I tried getting the 6 months of Apple TV through the PS5 and it wouldn’t work. And after an hour on the phone I was told that you can only have 1 free promotion thing ever (and I had used one before).

I thought they had no idea what they were talking about though, so curious if you can do it.

      • And after an hour on the phone

What’s your hourly rate? I bet you could have earned at-least half a year subscription worth of $ than chasing this.

    • +1

One can essentially get it free for 1 year as follows:

      • 3 months PS4
      • 6 months PS5
      • 3 months Telstra
  • +2

Can it be double stacked if you have multiple Telstra services?

    • Just tried this and said no. But I did the PS5 offer first so not sure which caused the issue. I'd say can only do it once for Telstra.

      • +2

This promo can only be applied to an apple account once.

But you could create a diff apple account in 3 months when this expires

  • Thanks OP

  • Telstra Tv finally has the Apple TV app

If you purchased a new iPhone recently you would have 3 months free Apple TV with it, use that first then the Telstra deal

  • Still no app for all Android devices 🙄🙄

    • Doesn’t support casting from IOS also which is annoying.

    • +1

I side-loaded the app onto a Vodafone TV which seems to work just fine. No idea why it's not officially available through the Play Store.

      • +1

The app is only officially supported on specific Non Apple devices.
Here's the official list from Apple.. sideloading the APP, whilst it works has proven to cause playback issues etc, especially with 4K on non supported devices. Pages on reddit with people having issues using the app on non supported devices.

My Mibox works fine, but it's only connected to a 1080P TV. Not tried it on my 4k Sony TV (Not listed as supported)

        https://www.apple.com/au/apple-tv-app/devices/

    • +1

Google tv chromecast has the Apple TV app.

    • You can sign in and stream using Chrome browser (but Brave doesn’t work for me).

  • +9

    No go for Boost…

    • Thanks for checking. I was about to ask about this.

  • +1

Seems a single apple tv account can only redeem this offer once, even if you try to do so from different apple accounts.

So I guess every 3 months have to use a different apple account

  • +1

Claim it, set a reminder to cancel before billing in November, watch the notable stuff during free period.

    • +6

I already cancelled. Says it's active til Nov

    • +1

You can cancel immediately and it’ll be active till end of expiry.

Tip : if something takes less than 5 mins, do it now.

  • Thank you! Already have the service, but good to know I don’t have to pay for it until December now

  • Awesome thanks

  • +1

    Nice
You can also stack with PS5 free 6 months making it 9 months.

  • +3

Boost, there were no offers associated with your Telstra ID.

  • I already cancelled my year long free trial. Did get some alright "exclusive" films out of it though. I literally spent 8 months without watching a single thing, then a few exclusive films popped up. The ones I remember watching are the Tom Hanks ones "Greyhound" (Good) and "Finch" (Bad), and "Cherry" with Tom Holland was pretty good.

Anyone know if there is anything "new"/recently released worth watching on Apple TV that's worth signing up for another free 3 months?

I am interested in films only, you can include and non exclusive recent releases as well.

  • Not on my offers?!?

  • Maybe active before school holiday since this is valid until 2023

  • +2

Thanks OP, I was about to subscribe to it already. And now, I have it free for 1 week + 3 months.

  • +1

I can't seem to create an apple tv account. Every time I enter the email code it says "Email code verification failed"

Edit: Turned out I already had an account!

  • Click on link…

    Enter login details

Please open My Telstra app to verify your identity

Open My Telstra app and select “verify identity”

    Face-id logo flashes

“Biometrics are not enabled on this device. Biometrics are enabled on another device. Please use this other device.”

Presumably this must be on my old, erased, phone. How do I change biometrics from one device to another?

  • Just in time for the final season of See !!! Must watch.

  • -8

Code wouldn't send to create an apple ID

    Wasted 5 minutes

    pass
