  • Currently use a nespresso machine, looking to upgrade (but don't have the time to grind, steam milk, make coffee on seperate sections/devices) - is this a good upgrade or not?

    • got a 4.8 score with JB reviews out of 839 people

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/breville-the-barista-touc…

    • Don't really see how this will be any quicker than doing on seperate devices, its basically 2 in 1. This isn't an automatic machine. It will be a lot longer than a nespresso.

edit: hmm looks like it has "automatic milk texturing" whatever that means, cant imagine it doesnt have something that needs to be cleaned though. Still will have to grind, tamp yourself, and then rinse and clean up after every coffee.

I think you are looking for Barista :)

It has 2 settings: temp and foam size/amount. Basically you select your desired settings and press the button to get the milk ready. After used, you will need to wipoe the frother (as usual) but it cleans itself internally.

My professional barista friend (10+ years experience) tried it and was very happy with its frother.

If you're interested in getting into coffee as a hobby as well as a consumer, consider the Breville Dual Boiler. Can be had for less than this one but you can do some mods to it to get it making incredible coffee.

    • ? If you don’t have time for those a simple fully automatic coffee machine will do?

I moved from nespresso to this machine, you really have to be into making coffee as a hobby and enjoy the process of it to enjoy a machine like this, last thing you want is to buy this machine and get sick of the process of initially dialling the machine in, cleaning up, tamping etc like everyone else mentions. as well as the long (fun and frustrating) process of experimenting various types of beans multiples this process.

None the less do not buy the black colour, as the drip dry paint scratches off no matter how careful you are with cleaning…

  • all these coffee machines going on sale makes me want to switch from pod machine to either this or Barista Express. but is this worth more than double the price of the Barista Express?

    • Yessir!

As a nespresso drinker…and now with a bdb, all my capsules taste are horrible!! They once weren't!!!

    • This has been this price with a number of the above retailers; but discounted from DJ.

I also believe their is a Breville Promo on currently running until Fathers Day?

I do have one of these. Probably 4 months now. I must say it does pretty decent job. It is a single boiler so you will need to be patient. Once you find your optimum grinding and dozing settings as well as good fresh beans I am sure it will produce you good coffee without any hassle. Easy to clean.

However, should you go for this or BES875 for $585 from Costco? I bought mine very very cheap. If I wanted to buy a new one probably I would go for BES875 because of price difference. My friend has BES875 and it is a nice, good enough machine.

  • Very good point about BES875! It's exactly same machine with same internals and grinder but more than double the price. All you pay extra for a useless touchscreen which is outdated any way.

    • I watched a lot of BES875 fixing videos on YouTube then open my one up. I was like sh***t it is not the same :)

At least things are not at the same place on both. I believe most parts are sharedly used. Because I have changed flow meter thing. I bought the one for BES875.

Grinder, I bet it is identical.
