[VIC] Free N95 and KN95 Masks to Victorians Who Takes a RAT/PCR Test

2792

Hi all,

Saw this update from Dan Andrews stating that free N95 and KN95 Masks will be provided over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas today announced that more than three million masks will be handed out to the community through our state-run testing sites, community health services across Victoria and across the public transport network.

Over the next four to six weeks every person that presents for either a free rapid antigen or PCR test will receive one box of 10 N95 masks, along with instructions on how best to wear them to reduce transmission.

        • why wouldnt you?

    • That's not what's happening where I live.

    • Strange how the people who might look at you weird would benefit from a mask to cover their ugly faces.

  • +6

    Good post. Free is free.
People complaining clearly are uneducated and have nothing else to do.

    • This post is pretty pointless and merely to gather some + votes.
If you need to take a PCR test or will be getting free RAT tests, you now get some extra masks.

However, don't want this post to cause people lining up at those centres just to get free masks.

      • Freebie is still a freebie.
If this post is pointless, comment on the hundreds of associated posts that drop everyday.

      • Couldn't care less about upvotes, doesn't do anything for me. And 60+ people haven't viewed this post as 'pointless', but carry on

    • Who do you think is paying for it?

      • +1

Our tax payer dollars. Which I am all for.
Better than giving it to jobkeeper companies who had a turn over of huge proportions.

  • +4

why do govt still keep handing out RAT test to kinders and schools - I know plenty of people with huge stockpiles of this stuff.. each 5pack must cost at least $30 to the taxpayer

    • +1

Well, they are meant to be using them twice a week as a preventative measure and most are not!

      • +1

They don't work that well though, couldn't get a rat to show positive after testing several days and PCR was positive. If your viral load is low enough it won't show up.

        • +1

          They are better then nothing…..

          • +2

@JuryWheel: There needs to be a slightly more discerning test than that before we splash out taxpayer resources

  • Thanks for sharing OP. Post comments here are a dumpster fire. Pretty simple people. Want to wear a mask - do so. Don't want to wear one? Fine! Wish the cross conversation would f&_+Iing stop already. You shouldn't care someone is wearing one, you shouldn't care someone is not. Just stfu already.

  • +3

Should have been free (with a PCR) for ages. Personally i try and wear a mask whenever i am indoors with others (outside of my own home), especially in public spaces - they really dont bother me and can only help….

    • I hope u don't reuse them…

  • If you are healthy ie not compromised forget the test forget the mask that doesn't work and where you breathe back you own waste air what nonsense so what if you get a cold what's wrong with people…

  • Not going to bother popping over for a test I don't need just to get a pack of masks but I'll be honest it's a tad annoying having just ordered a couple of boxes of N95s. I'll happily use them, without the political bravado.

  • +5

State run Covid test sites are pretty hard to find these days.

  • +10

Everytime I see an 'N95' post, for a split second I just think it's about a Nokia N95.

    • +2

It was a great phone at the time… I can't even remember what happened to the one I used to own.

  • +3

If you can now play sport with covid and not allow someone who isn't vaccinated play sport…. then I don't know what to tell you…

  • -3

As the govt and media has lied and lied and lied from the start how many lies will you take before you stop to think for yourself? This has been an incredible eye opener event as to how simple minded and sheep like the average Joe is.

    • +2

      WAKE UP, SHEEPLE! lol

    • What's your expertise and background in this matter? What do you do for a living?

  • -1

Australia continues to be obsessed with covid. Time to move on! Better of putting the money into getting skilled staff in out short staffed mandated hospitals.

    • +2

Yep, the rest of the world have moved on. Australia is one of the very few who are insistent on milking this as far as possible

      • +4

How dare we try and save lives! Outrageous.

        • Save what lives?

Car and bicycle accidents now account for significantly more deaths than Covid does for Australian's who aren't retired.

By the NSW health minister's own reporting (https://youtu.be/6BQDaefS3Ew?t=76), daily hospital ICU Covid-related admissions in NSW right now for the 0-10 ages, 11-20 ages, 21-30 ages, 31-40 ages and 41-50 ages are a total of 1 person per each of those age brackets and it's only 3 people in the 51-60 age bracket. That's just those admitted to ICU's for any reason who also have Covid too, it's not even an admission solely because of Covid.

Sure the numbers of death's for those aged in their 80's who catch Covid is what it normally is, but even the majority of those deaths are just deaths while positive for Covid, not deaths because of Covid. Even according to the ABS's own published Covid death data, the average age of those dying with Covid in Australia is two years more than the average Australian's life expectancy. This is not some sort of health crisis or mass killer.

    • Better of putting the money into getting skilled staff in out short staffed mandated hospitals.

Hospitals would be less short staffed if there were far less sick people around. I think spending money on reducing the spread of illness is better than focusing on adding capacity as more people continually get sick.

      • +1

I think spending money on reducing the spread of illness is better than focusing on adding capacity as more people continually get sick.

        Like China?

        • Very fair point. From what I've heard, they have taken it further than I would be comfortable with.

          • @S2:

Very fair point. From what I've heard, they have taken it further than I would be comfortable with.

It was never about COVID, if we are happy with mask and lock down, same can happen here.

            • @superforever:

              It was never about COVID

Yes it was. At the beginning, I remember the government downplaying it. Until they realised how bad it would be and lockdowns started.

if we are happy with mask and lock down, same can happen here.

I agree with this. Perhaps not to the same extent as yourself.

      • +3

Be alot more staffed if we actually stopped the mandates and stop brainwashing people.
The vaccines are proven to be not very effective. Yet our glorious government is bullshiting pushing 2yo vaccines for old strains.

        • +1

The vaccines are proven to be not very effective

Not just not very effective, it will weaken your own immune system.

Yet our glorious government is bullshiting pushing 2yo vaccines for old strains.

          Baby and kids :(

          • +1

@superforever: It's true. But people will call you crazy for saying so.

            • +1

              @Atomik17:

It's true. But people will call you crazy for saying so.

3 to 4 shots people get infected easier than unvaccinated.

        • The vaccines are proven to be not very effective

They have been proven to keep people out of hospital and ICU

          • @serpserpserp:

They have been proven to keep people out of hospital and ICU

But figures showed that unvaccinated also out of hospital and ICU.

          • @serpserpserp: I guess these peoples idea of an effective vaccine you don't get covid once vaccinated. Which was never going to be the case.

          • +1

@serpserpserp: Average age of death is 83 yo.
Such a great pandemic when we have to manipulate numbers to make it look worse. If you go hospital and have had covid in the last 15 days. Your counted as a covid case regardless of why your there.

            • +1

              @Atomik17:

If you go hospital and have had covid in the last 15 days. Your counted as a covid case regardless of why your there.

Counted as a COVID case if you have COVID but die with cancer.

        • Whilst you may or may not be right about masks and vaccines, staffing would be less of a problem if less people were sick, that's the point I am aiming for.

          • @S2: Staffing would be the same as always, because people have always been getting sick.

The only difference is mandates that force people into isolation for a week or more, despite only being sick or contagious once they even show any symptoms for a few days at most. It's a completely pointless waste of resources we've never had to put up with until Covid came around.

If an alien whizzed by, what would they make of all the humans wearing face nappies? What’s it all about? Are people too afraid to live their lives without being dictated to by virtue-signalling fools? Do you secretly enjoy recycling your own CO2 because independent thought is too taxing? The whole world has gone soft, and the disruption has ruined countless lives. Face nappies are the sanctimonious advertisement of futility to a planet that desperately needs to refocus its minds on the things that really matter

    • +7

Bet you're a hit at parties.

      • +1

I think masks are dehumanising, but you appear to be a very close second

        • +4

That's an unhinged thought, no doubt.

You must feel the same about sunglasses, hats, helmets, bee-keeping suits. Where does the dehumanisation end?

      • I mean, unlike you he's clearly actually attending parties, so how would you even know ?

  • +1

I take multiple RATs a week. How do I get these sent to me?

    • Ask to be audited by the Department of Health

  • -1

Both rats and pcrs can throw out many FALSE negatives especially rats . Then their is also the asymptomatics happy mingling everywhere mask less . WA is getting hit now but people in supermarkets gawk at ya for wearing a mask .
Foot and Mouth is a BIG worry now . Close the damn border again until threat gone but NOOO our CHEAP CHEAPO holiday . Vegetarian diets .
Whole worlds seriously up shit creek . WW3 .

    • -1

Judging by some of the comments here, the planet is a lost cause.

      • -1

What do you expect, our leaders are bough and sold by corps and special interest groups.

  • -5

Why are we still obsessing about this common cold of a virus? What impact has it had on the population of the planet? As we whip the masses into a frenzy about a benign threat, innocent people are dying!

    • +3

Because it's Australia. We have nothing better to worry about. Whole country is run by left hand soft cocks.
Have a look at Europe, no one even talks about covid shit.

      • +2

@Atomik17 for PM! Who gives a shit about policies, I just want someone in power who doesn’t beat about the bush

    • +7

Why are we still obsessing about this common cold of a virus?

Because for many people, the symptoms are very serious, way worse than a cold.

It is also stretching our ambulance and hospital resources and therefore affecting people with other issues access these services…

      • -2

If by many people you mean almost nobody, then I agree with you. It is only stretching resources because government bureaucracy and irresponsible media hype has clogged the hospitals with hypochondriacs

      • For some people it might be, for the vast majority though it clearly isn't.

        • +2

For some people it might be

          Enough to fill our hospitals…

          • @jv: Our hospitals have never been filled with Covid patients, it's mostly just the actually sick in there.

Even the Covid wards themselves have mostly never hit capacity & been closed or reduced in size as a result.

            • +1

              @infinite:

Our hospitals have never been filled with Covid patients

I didn't say they were. But the extra loads of covid patients have caused many hospitals to exceed their capacity, thus needing to be bypassed by ambulances. Many people have died as a result because they didn't get to hospital in time.

              • @jv:

                I didn't say they were.

You literally did, 1 post up.

                • @infinite: You need to take Comprehension 101

                  • +1

@jv: You need to go outside and touch some grass. Time to move on with life.

                    • +1

                      @infinite:

go outside and touch some grass.

Climate change killed it all off…

                      • -1

@jv: If only it killed all the nutcase climate protesters as well !

                        • +1

@infinite: Anxiety will do that anyway…

  • +1

So glad I left that dumpster fire of a state.

Net debt accounted for more than a quarter of Victoria's economy and that was the figure before interest rate rises.

It's going to end in tears for everyone but the politicians who'll no doubt leave as well in a few years.

    • +3

You have to admit that Dan has done wonders for The North Face’s bottom line. His legacy will last for decades as future generations climb his mountain of debt

    • +8

So glad I left that dumpster fire of a state.

      We're glad you left too…

      • Awww… not even a coupon code for 20% off a future order? What about a free pizza for filling out a feedback survey?

      • Came here to say the same thing!

    • Guilty Party mach 2

  • Hopefully these things will become plentiful enough that we can triple-mask with abandon

  • +5

As someone who lost a loved one overseas in initial days of Covid when there wasnt a vaccine available i find alot of comments here very disrespectful.
He was just 48 and left 4 young childered behind, their life will never be the same.

Millions of people aren't dead because of Vaccines and because of those who wore masks to prevent the spread. Just be greatful that you might be one of them

    • -2

      i negged you.

      • +1

That's because you're as smart as a bag of rocks.

    • -1

Sorry for your loss. But the vaccine killed people, too. This is the reason we can’t make objective decisions about what’s best for everyone.

The powers that be banned alcohol because a few people were caught drunk driving. They used a sledgehammer instead of a nutcracker. The response to this plandemic has been grossly disproportionate

    • I attempted with a number of others to help revive a patient at our local GP who died after having the AstraZeneca Vaccination. He was 35 years old and died in the arms of his pregnant wife and screaming toddler. Over a hundred and thirty thousand Australians have been the victim of a vaccination injury since this all begun and that number keeps climbing (https://www.tga.gov.au/periodic/covid-19-vaccine-safety-repo…). There is absolutely no doubt left at all now that the vaccines have done more harm than good and that continues to be the case more and more by the day now.

      • "adverse reports' are not a "vaccine injury" you complete and total muppet. It's a fever, a sore arm, etc. Big deal.

        • Oh-oh, looks like another science denier got grumpy !

  • +3

COVID is the third major cause of death in Aus and there are still people spreading ignorance, what a joke

    • +1

I think you don't know they will count it with COVID no matter what was the cause if positive.

      • Your regular visits to r/conspiracy are showing.

        • -1

It was on the news not something new, everyone knew. US even said they need to recount it.

    • The real tragedy is that people actually believe that. Do you die with the flu or from the flu? Birth obviously causes death, because it came first! Wear a mask! Stay home! Stop thinking for yourself!

    • The actual context of that statement is that Covid is the equal third most common reported underlying cause of death by hospitals, for patient's aged in their 80's.

It's not the actual cause, just one of the listed underlying causes. For reference, that list of underlying causes is usually 8-12 items long for those aged old enough to die with Covid. That list of underlying causes can include literally anything that may be an underlying cause & they aren't identified in order of what would be least or most likely an underlying cause either. If you had an infected finger from a paper cut at the time of your death, it would be on that list right next to Covid, too.

Covid for those aged 65 or under does not even hit the top 150 for causes of death in Australia. It's literally a fraction of deaths by cause compared to even those that ride their bikes or travel by car to work each day.

      • You don't win an award for highlighting that COVID impacts the elderly. We know. Sit down, shut up.

        • -1

It pretty much almost only impacts them though & it's not even a primary impact on them.

Maybe you should be the one sitting down and shutting up, since you have no interest in following the science ?

          • @infinite: Why pretend you care about the science when you're only using it to support your viewpoint?

            • -1

              @smartazz104:

Why pretend you care about the science when you're only using it to support your viewpoint?

My feelings are irrelevant, facts and science are what they are. Doesn't matter if you like that or not, if it it triggers you that they don't support the narrative you personally want to be pushing.

    • COVID is the third major cause of death in Aus and there are still people spreading ignorance, what a joke

      You believe it?

What an easy thread to get my 10 negs for the day done. Thanks anti-vax/anti-mask idiots.

I can’t believe some people are sick of being force-fed bullshit for the past 2-and-a-half years… what’s their problem?!
