Premium Economy Return to Hawaii via Los Angeles (Both Legs) on Qantas/American from $1936 (Fly December) @ Google Flights

82

Disclaimer: I've not flown PE, and this deal isn't found through our website. I just thought it was a great deal.

Example: MEL to HNL from AUD$1936 return in PE from Dec 2 to 8th.

Naturally, you have to fly Economy from MEL to SYD first and then out on PE with AA to LAX. Following that is economy to HNL.

Some will balk at the connection in LAX, but following the 'why fly direct when you can connect' points collection ethos, it's worth noting that this itinerary, if crediting the flights to your Qantas FF Account, could earn you a total of 360 status credits and at least 25,400 Qantas points (or more points if you have status with Qantas). That’s more than enough status credits to reach Qantas Silver status from one trip.

Was found on AFF.

Plus a million dollars for accommodation and other expenses

      Plus a million US dollars

      fixed…

I booked and cancelled a trip in October as the accom costs were astronomical.

      • how much are we talking?

Yes… this airfare, even as PE…. is absolutely the cheapest part of a trip to Hawaii.

I'm in Maui right now and paid $3.5K (AUD) for 7 nights in an Airbnb - and was glad to get that… the resort hotels were double that.

I have another week in Kona and paid about the same for another smaller Airbnb - and it was kinda that or $5-6K for a hotel if there was much left to chose from.

Then tack on the cost of…. everything (2L milk this morning was USD$6.70 at the local supermarket just today).
Small jar or regular olives $4.80.
          Small block of cheese… $8.45.
          Eating out just as expensive.

Beer though from the supermarket is very reasonable though for some reason. Good craft beers too… I paid US$16.49 for 12 x 12oZ (375mL) cans of a local IPA 7.0% that drinks very nicely.

I booked to come here back in Feb when not much in the world was open without quarantine etc etc..By the time other places opened up… it was too late to cancel without losing a bunch of money on non-refundable accom etc… so here I am… complaining about my two week Hawaain Vacation LOL :D

It is an amazing place to come and see the sights and do the things… just bring money…. ALL the money.

          • @timjohns: Damn that is expensive. If you are still in Maui you should check out Coconut's Fish Cafe if it's not too far. I had the best fish tacos of my life there!

          • @timjohns: You've got me scared now. I'm heading to Maui next month and with the flights and accommodation already paid for I was hoping that at least the majority of the expenses were done with.

You think those prices you gave are typical or was that at a corner store supermarket as opposed to a main one to stock up on all the groceries for the week?

Finally, and more importantly, what IPA was it?

    • Cheapest hostel is $1130/wk+tax+whatever magical charge they dream up for a double bed. Most others are closer to $1500.

      Obviously just take a swag.

$1936 to Hawaii does not seem like a Bargain

  • +6

You do get a bonus 11 hours in economy …. plus the joy of clearing customs at LAX.
Its just not worth the extra pain and suffering

  • +4

Barely an upgrade over economy and 25 hours instead of 13 hours… Not seeing the bargain here.

    • +1

MEL > HNL is 10 hours.
So more like 25 hours instead of 10.
Plus the leg from LAX to HNL is econ….5.5 hours.
Upside is MEL > SYD is in Business

  • lol, a flight just to LAX on the same date shows as $4000+, but going via LAX to Hawaii is half the price. Flights are stupid.

    • Skiplag time!

  • +2

For those not seeing the bargain and some even negging, did you even read the OPs post?

$1900 or so for 320 status credits is very good value.

  • Can I stop in LA for few days ?

    • no…max 24 hours

  • I remember pre Covid when Hawaii had the big push and it was like $400 return, but accomodation was horiffic.

  • Wait, why has the accomodation gone so crazy in Hawaii? It wasn't so bad when i last went..

Because the yanks are afraid to head out of the US.

49/50 tourists i meet here are from mainland USA. For them it’s like an overseas adventure.
