Decent price for a 1tb decent nvme with DRAM.
Not as fast as the popular Samsung 970 EVO Plus but it's cheaper and most people probably couldn't tell the difference outside of benchmarks.

Assume you can utilise PCI-e gen 4, get the SN850. Otherwise get this.
Link?
I think that the $30 more expensive one is only 500GB: https://www.bpctech.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=SN850
If so, the 500GB version is $159 at BPC or $136 on Amazon AU: https://www.amazon.com.au/WD_Black-Internal-Gaming-Technolog…
Yeah a bit of mistake from me, was meant for the Gigabyte gen 4: https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/gp-ag70s1tb-gigabyte-aoru…
That and the SN850 500gb gen 4 has the same price so I make an error here@Masticccc: Maybe sn750se. Will be a bit cheaper than sn850. Works very well in my PS5 for a year.
@rhyme324: Specwise the SN750 SE looks worse than the Gigabyte aorus to me, why would you choose it
@Masticccc: Coz it was cheap. I only need to use it for PS5. People tested and it does not affect ps5’s performance. So why not.
@rhyme324: cheapest I can find for SN750 SE is 169$ free ship at centrecom, the gigabyte one is 159$ + delivery in bpc tech. So not that cheap
@Masticccc: Why did you miss this deal:
[Prime] WD Black SN850 1TB NVMe Gen 4 M.2 SSD $149.05 Delivered @ Amazon UK via AU
@netsurfer: ah I'm not buying any computing parts right now, wait for Zen 4 and next gen GPU announcement to do a full upgrade. Just comment regarding deals that are available at this time.
@Masticccc: Zen4, yes, that will be interesting. Is it really going to be like the leak where WD will offer PCIe gen 5 NVMe SSDs support (1 from connecting directly to CPU, and 1 from the top end chipset)?
@netsurfer: No idea lol. Personally I just wait for next gen announcement to buy the current gen stuffs at the cheapest price.
@Masticccc: Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 7000s 1TB, reason for it:
- PCIe gen 4 with Phison E18 chipset
- Good price for an E18 based 1TB SSD
Against it:
- Some OZBers indicated warranty from Gigabyte is a pain so you need the retailer to be nice to help you out.
- Not exactly top notch for E18 based SSDs (however, still impressive enough).
"assuming I can ultilise PCI gen 4"
nvme pcie is both forwards and backwards comp table with all nvme drives.. :) The drives will run as fast the as motherboard connection will allow. Gen4 is more future proof so long as its over 5500mbps it should be usable for ssd cashing for future games.
I mean "fully ultilise", i.e motherboard support PCI gen 4 to run SSD gen 4 at full speed.
I think if you can find something that is technically PS5-compatible for a similiar price or not too much more, it is a good idea to go for it because it will likely have better resale value in future when you eventually upgrade and want to sell your old SSD off. There will probably come a time where 1TB is considered small. However there will be millions of PS5's owners out there potentially looking to upgrade their storage.
Something like this 1TB Crucial P5 Plus for ~$116-133 (no longer on sale) was a great deal because it is more versatile/flexible, even if you technically don't need the PCIe Gen 4 at the moment.
I suppose there is also the theory that games will start becoming more SSD-sensitive with PS5/XSX having fast SSD's now.
Good drive for storage and content creators, sustained write is strong
For everyday use though, the SN570 with no DRAM is faster due to the improved controller and flash
Does anyone know if this will work in an Acer Nitro 5 laptop?
Also how does it compare to this?

SN750 is flagship PCIe gen 3 x4 NVMe SSD (TLC, has DRAM, and 8 channels controller). Kingston NV1 is low end PCIe gen 3 x4 NVMe SSD (DRAMless, QLC and 4 channels controller) NV1 has a fairly aggressive SLC cache - it needs that coz. it's actual NAND performance is pretty bad.
NV1 is something I would use for USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure (since 3.2 gen 2 only supports PCIe gen 3 x2 and tops out at 1000MB/s) or if a motherboard has a m.2 that only supports PCIe gen 3 x2 (i.e. B450's chipset m.2 slot). SN750 - 5 years warranty, NV1 - 3 years.

do you guys reckon this would be suitable for a pc boot/os drive or relegated to a storage/games directory drive? tlc right?
would i require a heat sink? i read that gen 3 dont get too hot but aussie summer… pc has a fan in front and a fan out rear
This or 30$ more for SN850 also BPC Tech (assuming I can ultilise PCI gen 4)?
