Blackberry Playbook 16GB Tablet $199.97 at Costco
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70791

      1. you can only get that price if you have a membership card. And that membership card costs a min. of $55. So the total will come to $199.97+$55 if you want to purchase it at Costco. You do the math.

      2. Costco do not offer shipping

As a result, your reason for the neg is not justified.

      • +2

actually that $55 can be refunded within the year. But again its a deal for places that don't have a Costco

    Operating System: OS 2.0

    Hehehe…OS/2! :p

pre-order sale in march 2012 was $249 with free headset.. after 3 months, only $13 drop?

  • can this be installed with android? lol
    its a dying product now!

    • In UK it is very popular. Dead over here though. Brits are BBM crazy.

    • +1

      NO
however, there is a say to "sideload" Android apps.
      sorta like an emulator……..LOL
I would not personally buy this unless it's $50

  • +1

For $36 less you can get a Toshiba tablet (see front page). Rather get that instead.

  • +2

Obviously this is a must buy. This brand new version has EMAIL, can you believe it EMAIL!!!!

    • I believe that in the trade it is referred to as having the emails! :)

I wonder if it really is worth getting, given RIM is that close to going bankrupt. At least with the HP deal, the OS may have been dead but HP will still be around for warranties.

    • lol going bankrupt? the only thing they're losing out on is market share and judging by the optimism of bb10 for later this year they aren't going anywhere yet - they're still number 1 in business and are very much alive in other industries (automotive). as of 23 Jan 2012 – RIM has $1.5bn in cash reserves and that doesn't include their portfolio of products and their valuable patents. Outside the US RIM is thriving in markets in europe and asia.

the playbook in a sense can load android apps but if you're after a particular app the android market and the app store is a much better proposition but its still a capable device and personally I'd rather get this or that toshiba tablet than the overprice ipad tablet.

I dont know where you're from, but where I am successful companies don't look to sack thousands of employees and cut billions from operating costs.

Here's an article you go look at.
        http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-31/rim-sale-set-when-b…

Experience tells us that its never a good sign when your big insto shareholders are screaming for someone to buy it and when private equity starts sniffing around.

        • +1

Not only that they are sitting on plenty of stock, so while they may not be going bankrupt, they definitely have a lot of inventory they need to move.

So expect so you probably can expect some better bargains soon.

          http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-29/rim-writedown-riske…

          as for

I'd rather get this or that toshiba tablet than the overprice ipad tablet

Its your money - but value is based initial price, functionality over time and resale, which gives total cost.

haha! i just pointed out that they're no where near being bankrupt and up until recently had their first quarterly loss since 2004, whatever you read into that is up to you. companies sack people all the time, that's business for you. reality is they're no longer in a position that they once was so they need to restructure but bankrupt? hardly..

my preference in tablets is an opinion and personally I don't think the price justifies its function, no harm done to the millions of other users of the iPad - tablets just don't appeal to me yet but I can see this tablet fulfilling someones needs at a price that isn't extortionate.

        • I wasnt having a go at you, I was just indicating that given the stock issue they have the price may come down, hence price might drop making it more of a deal, but at the same time when its price comes down so does it's secondhand value.

If it gets closed out then its secondhand value is very limited plus software development stops etc, while the Toshiba maybe a better option. I did misread your comment, in that I read it as Toshiba and Ipad not being of value to you. rather than your intended, playbook and Toshiba being better value than the Ipad.

But given you dont even think tablets dont appeal to you I guess the whole discussion is academic :)

Given the bloomberg article says they will have to write down stock in inventory, then this would mean its dropped in value, which means they will sell it for less… which means more of a bargain when they do, so for those like you not needing a tablet this could be a cheap entry point when they do

dead tablet, better go with the $199 Toshiba 7" posted elsewhere which runs Android.

  • +1

not a bargain for a dead tablet. go for toshiba tablet as suggested by dragon7

  • +1

Not long before RIM have a firesale. Even cheaper!

  • +1

    Yes, dead product.
It has GPS, but no official application supports this function. Really funny.

RIM always release products with less applicaitons and supports.
