To be fair though, most reviews on the GooglePixel sub will be biased heavily towards only Pixel products. Most r/GooglePixel users will die on the Pixel hill rather than buy another product.
Even then one of the users rated audio quality "4/10".
So their "reviews" are mostly moot.

    • Completely agree!

    • Lol try saying you prefer the front fingerprint scanner lmao they're all on another planet

  • I have the Pixel 6 Pro but am currently using the Sony WF-1000XM4s. I'll be very interested to see how these compare.

    • +1

Exact same combo as you. I don't think these will be as good as the XM4s but I would like to be pleasantly surprised!

    • Same! Can you comment on the audio quality?

  • +7

Damn this is a good price. I preordered mine from the Google Store and received it yesterday. Legit they are better than my AirPods Pro. And yes I’m using this on my iPhone 13 Pro

    • Better battery life
    • Better ANC
    • Better fit in my ear (feels more snug)
    • Better case (matte finish with nice lid snap)
    • Volume control and touch controls
    • Easy switching between devices (tested with 2 MacBooks and my iPhone)
    • How are they for long term wear?

      • +1

This might be ear shape dependent but I noticed that it’s based on the eartips. As I was testing the different size eartips, once I found the correct size I can wear them for 3-4hrs straight. I haven’t really had a use case to have them on longer. If I have to, I’ll probably switch to my Sony WH-1000XM3

    • Wow, can you describe the switching process please?

      • So, unfortunately because I don’t have an Android phone I couldn’t test the full multipoint feature but for iOS/MacOS it works similar to AirPods (albeit with manual pairing the first time)

For airpods, when you are switching to your MacBook there is a “connect” button. For the pixel buds pro you just need to connect by selecting it on Bluetooth settings. But the good thing is, no need to enter pairing mode for each device. As long as they are paired once you can switch device instantly.

        • can you select the sound button in the mac menu bar and it shows up there and switches instantly like the airpod pros?

        • Hmm that's interesting, thanks for sharing. Sounds pretty convenient then!

    • +1

Need to know how it compares to Sony WF-1000XM4s.

    • Any comments on sound quality? the AirPods Pro are known to have a flat (read boring) sound signature that have vocals a bit more forward compared to more consumer friendly "V" shaped tuning.

      • +1

Yeap definitely V shaped tuning on these buds. The bass is very pronounced. Unfortunately I’ve never tried the Sony WF-1000XM4 but from my experience, this is slightly more bass heavy than the Jabra 75T

    • Please correct me if I'm wrong, but these don't have an iOS companion app to change settings or update the earbuds do they?
Do you see that being a problem?

      • There's no iOS app to configure the pixel buds but out of the box, its already ready to go. The long press is set as switching between ANC and transparency mode. I think probably the only drawback of using iOS is that if there's a firmware update, it wont be able to get it. But the production firmware is already pretty stable. Using it for the 3rd day now and I haven't found any bugs or glitches.

        • Have you had feedback from friends on what the voice audio quality is like when on phone calls?

          Cheers

          • @mellowman: That's a great question. I think the best way is for us to test this out. PM me? I'll be heading out today so we can test the outdoor background noise test

A company known for snooping releases a listening device. What could go wrong

    • They have been releasing listening devices for over 8 years now… And prior to that they still had the search engine. I mean snooping is their business model, but you can at least opt out of it, or not enable the Google Assistant side of things.

  • +2

Nice find OP, I pre-ordered through the Google store to use my $150 credit from my 6 Pro pre order. Was lucky enough a 15% off google nest products from Unidays code worked, went to do an OZB post (after waiting 410 mins for a new code to confirm) it was invalid.

Should be rocking up today or tomorrow, keen to give them a try.

    • +1

Unidays worked for me too. Will post a deal…

      Unidays deal here…

      • Ah sweet, I thought I got in and they canned it- last time with the Pro I was messaging people codes and they worked. Might be for a single account this time.

  • I literally just bought a pair of Sony wf-1000xm4's from JB Hi-fi with their JULY15 coupon code, a $100 gift card and a random $50 credit that arrived in my inbox yesterday… total price was $295.80 less the $150…

Now considering whether I should try to swap them!

    • All comes down to your preferences :)

I personally will only consider earbuds that have pressure vents, having used a few sets with this feature its really difficult to go back. But then again YMMV and everyone has their own preferences.

  • +3

I think I might hold on from purchasing this atm until more official reviews are in. Does seem like a good price, but will wait for future deals. Thanks OP for the post though.

    • Anytime! TBH I'm in a similar boat to you, if the collective reviews turn out to be trash - then I'll return them.

  • This is very tempting… I have almost $200 Google store credits expiring in a few months that I have no idea what to do with though, so I'll also be keeping an eye out on reviews

  • Are these vented like the Buds A, to avoid the thump thump effect when running?

  • If these support AAC, I can see myself buying these!

  • Eyeing these or the Huawei Freebuds Pro 2?

The latter has BT5.2 and LDHC codecs..

So sick of my XM3s - they're so top heavy, tried so many tip brand/size - never fits properly. Can't even handle walking without falling out.

    • Surely on these consumer buds LDHC wouldn't make a tiny bit of difference right? And BT version doesn't really matter either hey, just need to check the latency or battery life to see if it suits.

      • When using my Sony 1000XM3 on my pixel 6 pro, using tidal app master quality song, and changing Bluetooth from LDAC to APTx HD in settings there is an audible difference in the fullness of the sound between the 2. 24bit 48khz vs 32bit 96khz.

Obviously source needs to be mastered and recorded @ 32bit 96khz or above to hear a difference.

Be interested to see if the pixel buds pro can produce an audible difference between the codecs

LDHC is more about low latency than sound quality I think

        • Given that the xm3 drivers and dac isn’t even capable of reproducing the full range of aptxhd, I can only assume any difference you experienced was codec support related.

How did you test it? Assuming it was in a soundproof room? And as we know the second you engage anc you lose any benefit of hd audio anyway.

Given many audiophiles struggle to tell the difference between high end aac and ldac/ldhc you must be using equipment to measure any difference right?

    Thx OP saved me $30

  • Dont forget to use the 10% off gift cards here. Purchased this morning using this discount code and the discounted gift cards to bring it back to $242.19.

  • +1

ugh, how frustrating, pre-ordered these, and they have plastered all over the pre-order. Price protection guarantee and all that.

Chatted with google to try to get the $30 bucks back, find out you can't use the price protection since it's a "coupon" code..
    So pointless these "guarantee's"

  • Dammit bought the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro but undecided if happy, does fit without falling out however read memory foam tips help so will see if it improves

  • honestly I'd expect this to be superior to the AirPods Pro because they have the benefit of just over 1,000 more days of technological r&d. looking forward to what apple comes up with next to compete with these awesome buds.

Shared my thoughts after a few days if anyone is interested.

Long story short, won't be keeping these.
