  • The thought of wearing 1.2kWh of Li-ion cells on my back with a high current workload… thrilling.
4.3MJ, or roughly 1kg of TNT.

    • While you can use it for hand tools also, it does attach to the mower in this case

  • $3k original, I bought it was a ride-on

    • You'd be looking at $9k for the Ego ride on

      • This isn't even a Ego mover. it is 18v x 2 Makita

        • +4

Not sure why you think it is inferior to Ego. Cuts lower than the 21" Select Cut, has side discharge and Makita have a 5 year warranty commercial or domestic use. Much better commercially oriented mower than Ego IMO.

  • I wonder if anybody would buy this to flip for a profit console style, if indeed a pricing error and not simply a new pricing structure.

The skin only is $1499, same again for the powerpack if you were purchasing separately. I was alerted to the deal on a mower's contracting page who went in store on the weekend to purchase but the computer wouldn't allow the price. Ordered C&C and picked up today no problem. I'm sure you could flip them relatively easy but it's not the average residential mower really. Pretty much a commercial system and only released this month I believe so can't see it being new pricing structure.

Bugger it let’s give it a go, currently on backorder with makita, let’s see what happens whether they honour.. Let’s also see all the makita lawn mowers on Facebook marketplace over the coming weeks haha

too good of a deal to pass up. in for 1. i love Makita.
i switched from Milwaukee, and it was the best decision ever.

    • +2

Each to their own, my Milwaukee tools are still going strong 10 years on. Just had to replace the batteries now

    • What was wrong with your Milwaukee gear? I love my Makita 18v and have about 15 tools, they cant be beat on range of skins. But i run a few 12v Milwaukee tools and find their quality just as good.

Ordered one, let’s see if it gets cancelled.

  • I bought into makita recently with every intention of buying a makita mower (and I do love makita). But when you look into the mowers they make they're horrible. This is another example. For one, it's very heavy, the thought of wearing a back pack full of batteries is also horrible and why can't they add a proper solid catcher? The majority of people who buy self propelled also hate it, but given the excessive weight and run time you might be forced to use it…

For the quoted area this is either for single BIG jobs, or lots of little jobs. Which to me suggests either a ride on would be suitable, or something light weight and manouverable if you're "Jim's Mowing" style operator.

Rather than sound like a whinger who's unhappy with everything, I would recommend others check out the Victa Corvette 36v twin becuase its specs look great (just a shame I have to buy into ANOTHER battery platform)…. it should also be noted it is a smaller (domestic) cutting width than the advertised (commercial) makita.

Here's my view on your points…

It is a commercially orientated mower.
It needs to be heavy to get an accurate height of cut but if you remove the battery, it's light enough for an operator to carry up stairs or hard to get areas where a petrol mower would be much more difficult.

The battery pack sits on top of the mower, you don't have to wear it unless you're using it for hand tools such as a whipper or blower, in which case again, it's commercially orientated. The residential user doesn't need 33ah of juice in one go.
Commercial operators also generally want a bigger deck. 21"is a good compromise for maneuvering and not requiring a heap of passes over larger areas.

The catcher is fabric as it's been proven it helps catch the clippings better. It allows the air that carries them in to the catcher to pass through. Allett do the same with many of their mowers now.

The only thing I don't like about it is the handle. My understanding is it doesn't fold down which is a huge oversight IMO.

      • Good points. I'd like to know what the weight is without a battery and you're correct… backpack isn't the only way. Looks like can be attached to the top of the mower also.

I had a VictaVac with a fabric bag. Needed replacing every 12 months. Do the fabric catchers on mowers actually last?

        • 40.7kg skin only. Still heavier than an Ego but easy enough to put on and off a ute

  • Looks like the price has now been changed to $2849

    • Yep, they're on to it
