According to Camel this has just been jacked to $31.90 in order to make it look like a good deal.

      Shameful practise

    • +4

      That's disgraceful

    • +2

Making a ~41% discount look like a 50% discount only makes them look like fools for trying to think nobody would look close enough. It's never worth it.

      Awful business practices SmallRig !!!

Besides the price I purchased this last time and I am returning it. The pixel density is not great but the major factor for me is the USB-C port has not been implemented correctly, you have to use a USBA-USBC cable to charge it. So if you're traveling and take your phone charger that is USBC-USBC then this won't work.

    • This is an underrated pet peeve of mine and honestly a deal breaker (first world problems I know), I have a speaker and vape that need A-C cables. Is it because they don't support power delivery?

      • +3

If you plug a C2C cable into a device there is 0 voltage on the line, then it's up to the devices to negotiate it. Unlike with QC or just a A-C cable there is 5v by default.
If you have no intention to ever use Power Delivery then the correct implementation is to include a 5.1K resistor to ground on the CC1 and CC2 pins and hey presto you have 5V.
If I know this I cannot understand why someone designing a product to be mass produced and sold all round the world wouldn't know this.

    Say no to price jacking

The previous deals on this light have been the same, they know damn well what they're doing:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/689421

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/707765

    • So it looks like this is the cheapest it has been. I see it as a light for $15.95, not a 50% discount on a $31.90 light or a 41% discount on a $27.11 light.

They learned not to put a "was" price in the title this time.

      • +1

When you click on the link it says 50% off. Price jacking before a sale is against the law because it's misleading. According to Aus consumer law you're not allowed to mislead consumers.

        • If you look around, $15.95 is a good price for this light. OP didn't have to raise the price by $4.79 first, not sure what they were thinking.

That said, whilst I think it's a good deal and the price jack wasn't much, I decided to revoke my +. Hopefully camelcamelcamel is accurate with the price as everybody is basing their accusations on that one source that hasn't always been accurate for me.

            • @Nalar: The thing is, the discounted price that's listed in the title is a good price. It's the cheapest it has ever been, and is cheaper than any other store. There was no need to change the price first - once again, assuming camelcamelcamel is correct this time.

              • +1

@eug: I think you might have missed the take away from that blog post. Your 100% right there's no need to change the price first and as a matter of fact it's illegal to do so, but unscrupious sellers will do it anyway as a tactic to help push sales along. Thus we as savy Oz bargainers should be calling out anyone posting 'deals' that employ this tactic, regardless of if its an actually a good deal or not.

                • @Nalar: You're missing my point - the deal price is genuinely the best price around, so OP didn't have to resort to any price-changing tactics to push sales along. Hence the comment "not sure what they were thinking". The difference isn't large either - a 41% vs 50% discount.

Again, this is assuming the price history on camelcamelcamel is accurate. Looks like it did miss the time when it was $31.90 in March.

                  • @eug: Eh, I tried.

                    • @Nalar: I just realised, maybe you're misunderstanding my use of the phrase "not sure what they were thinking". It's a phrase "Used to express confusion, annoyance, or surprise at someone's past opinions, decisions, behavior, etc.".

I'm not literally wondering why they decided to increase the price and offer a discount - we all know how fake discounts work, i.e. not actually offering much of a discount, if at all, over the regular selling price by inflating the pre-discounted price.

I was surprised they would bother using price-changing tactics when their discounted price genuinely is cheaper than everyone else.

Again, this is assuming camelcamelcamel is accurate, which is what everybody is basing their negs on.

Oh, it's smallrig again… Didnt you try to put this dance on before?

Negging because it is against ACL to jack prices and offer a false discount.
