Better than the recent Prime day deal (was $59 then). It also comes in other colours but more expensive ($77 for Glacier White and Deep Blue).
Amazon Echo Show 5 Generation 2 (Charcoal Colour) $57 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Bunnings

Actually, Miss Google and Alexa are not real people. They’re computer algorithms. Don’t believe me? Prise open the cover to reveal a bunch of circuitry!
Damn it, he is right, all my fantasies ruined.
Not true.
The Alexa series is the most reliable computer ever made. No Alexa has ever made a mistake or distorted information. They are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.
But can it open the front ‘pod bay’ door?
@Orac: I can't do that Dave.
Just don't let Lamda know….
May require help to carry
Total Weight 041kg?It's Bunnings, they have a terrible website.
It's Bunnings, they have a terrible website.
Just the website?
Possibly built by Tradies with Bunnings tools.
If you upload to the cloud first it’s much more manageable
You wouldn’t download a car
Lowest prices are just the beginning… Of a back injury
Thanks OP!, this is also is not a bad option for the price.

These are a fantastic beside clock device. I recommend them. All the standard Alexa functionality, listening to radio etc, setting sleep time, all by voice.
Very dim display?
Yes, there's a night mode that makes the screen black and clock digits white, then fades out according to how much light is in the room..
The brightness of the display dims automatically when I turn the lights off.
You can turn off the display completely.
Would this work OK to play lullabies & white noise to a baby?
It would work OK providing you have internet access
I thought that would be a given, but yes, we have wifi at home. I've never used a smart speaker or device like this before. Do I need to link spotify to it?
Do I need to link spotify to it?
Basically no, if you don't mind the ads…might wake your baby up as sometime the ads can be a bit too loud
@Ham Dragon: If you have amazon prime it'll go thru the list of lullabies / nature noises whatever is ad free
Amazon music is usually the default for me (and this is the tier that comes with amazon prime, another paid sub gets more music), but can ask to play something on spotify
@loke: Does having Prime allow you to choose songs to play on this?
@tempco: No you need Amazon music unlimited for that
@ShouldIBuyIt: Gotcha cheers the search for a solution continues!
@tempco: Yes, you can play your choice of song as long as it is available on the normal tier of amazon prime.
E.g. alexa play bohemian rhapsody, etc, play <movie> soundtrack, play <artist>
Think you can open the amazon music app too if you need to make a playlist of sorts
Other than that you can ask to play by artist / play pop / 70s/80s/90s/2000s/ pop/rock/rap etc
If something is unavailable it'll ask you to sub to amazon music unlimited of course
There are DAB radio stations that play sleepy time music for little kids.
Thanks for that, can you install apps on these things? I'm wondering if one of the speakers with a clock is a better option than this as I don't need the video calling or playback functionality.
@Ham Dragon: Yes, there are lots of apps (called skills) supported by alexa devices. https://www.amazon.com/alexa-skills/
@xelfer: Thanks for that, but link doesn't work!
@Ham Dragon: Cheers mate!
Also best baby monitor. Drop in function is the most used function in our home.
too bad it doesn't come with a hardware switch to turn off microphone…. the only hardware switch is for the camera
This Soldering iron is ok
There's a slide for the camera and a button to turn off the microphone
It has the switch to turn off microphone.
This or Nest Hub 2?
This if you have Ring doorbell
Nest Hub 2 if you have Google nest doorbellIf you have others or neither
then depends on what home assistant / voice control you would prefer
Alexa (Amazon) or GoogleFor me, I have been using Nest Hub instead of Amazon Echo
a few use cases specific to google eco system:- view / answer nest doorbell visitors
- "hey google" to get google assistant that linked to google account
- voice / touch control all devices that linked to google home
- voice control chromecast
- act as photo frame showing photos from google photo (when device idle)
I've got both. I prefer the echo show 5.
Note that it's 5" vs 7". And nest is almost double the price.Note that it's 5" vs 7"
Thought size does not matter?
both are pretty crap in terms of speed. nest has the edge because of youtube. i use echo as a digital frame and clock only.
(got both for around ~50 each)
This. For me video calling is important which is missing in Nest.
Is there an Apple version of this?
Apple doesn't have a Smart Display yet, it's Google or Amazon. Google won't be updating third party Google Assistant displays so you shouldn't get anything but a Nest if you go with Google.
They encourage you to use your ipad.
I'm an Apple person and I have one of these. In particular it supports Apple Music natively, if you ask it to play a song it will play it through Apple music once you have set it up as an Apple music client.
The best feature of Echo show imo is Drop In where you can just drop in (no one need to accept the call) and talk to anyone in the room 😊, I am also enjoying the integration with Ring door bell
Agreed! Being able to use your Echo devices as intercom is clutch.
I've got mostly google nests around the house, but it would be nice to have one of these to be for the video door bell. Can you make it play nice with google stuff being around? like I guess muting the mic or telling it to not listen in.
Hahaha, the review from bunnings makes me think it was bought for the wrong person?
I brought this a few months ago to help my husband with spelling it helps him out heaps. Great for all sorts of things, playing music, weather jokes, even sings you happy birthday love it
Good sense of humour though - weather jokes is such an underappreciated comedy niche!
Does Miss Google get jealous if you already have a bunch of Google Home/Mini devices and you bring Alexa into the equation?
