  • tell us the price son!

Tell us what's the difference between this to the one Aldi sells which is cheaper with their everyday price,?

    • Active ingredient seems the same.

      • this one? https://www.aldi.com.au/en/groceries/laundry-household/laund…

Looks like different ingredient… Aldi one based on Eucalyptus Oil (no Bleach), Canesten is Benzol Chloride (Bleach).

Unless they have a different one not on their website?

I actually hate the smell of Eucalyptus Oil, so I'll stick with my environment killing bleach thanks :).

        • just curious. so why is this safe on all color fabrics if its bleach? or why not just use bleach if its the same?

        • +1

it looks like aldi one has eucalyptus and bleach :)

          Better pic here Disan

          • @expertreader: Excellent pic! Yep, confirmed… same ingredient.

Oh well, good to know for next time- I'll definitely give it go.
Still… good price for Canesten for brand snobs like me :).

          • +1

@expertreader: It's not bleach. It's benzalkonium chloride. Same as Canesten.

    • I haven't purchased the Aldi one, can you upload the details and we'll compare:

Chain length distribution, appearance at 25C, density at 20C, viscosity at 20C: active matter, free amine, pH, composition, stability in application.

      • UFO did upload a photo of it in his above comment.

      • +2

I'm interested in the outcome of your analysis. That's way too technical for me

      • Tell Aldi i said hi.

      • It's the same. 70g/L benzalkonium chloride. The rest is just tiny amounts of fragrance.

    • I use this, dont know about the aldi one but its pretty good. I last bought a bunch of 3 packs when they were at $9 each, this is a good price.

  • +2

Good price! This is like $9 at Coles these days. Stocking up, thanks OP. Limited to 1 only, but if you select the other one you can get both for the discounted price. $10.50 delivered for two is pretty good!

    • Coles also has a generic one now with the same active ingredient (70g/L) for $4.

  • +3

Has been cheaper in the past. I'll buy the Aldi version as per the comments

    • +1

I buy the Aldi ones all the time and they have the eucalyptus smell which is nice. Their 1 litre is always under $5 and for most people it is easy to get into an Aldi shop.

      • +1

Aldi also sell a "cotton-fresh" smell version of Di-San

  • +2

    Active ingredient benzalkonium chloride 70g/L

Also in many other disinfectants. Just get the cheapest.

    • can you share what is the cheapest option?

      • Woolies essentials household grade disinfectant 2L for not much is what I use. Can't find it on Woolies online at the moment.

      • Bunnings pool algaecide is the cheapest option for benzo chloride I've found.

  • I normally put a bit of bleach in with my washing liquid and finishes the washings with the Aldi Di San and fabric softener. I don't like the idea the 'bleach' stays in my washings without being rinses off so it is good to know their difference. I will stick with the Aldi one.

  • Nice. Was going to buy this yesterday but wasn't swayed enough by the price.

  • +2

hope get rid of fungi on toes and feet

  • +1

Wait for 2L to get half price for around $8. A much better design bottle and cap. Guess Canesten needs to stay competitive so they come up with 2L

  • Half a cap of this in my nightly bath keeps the mold from the basement.

  • Should I start using this now that I have young kids?

    • Yes. If you letting laundry build up on piles. Overall, there is no harm in practicing better hygiene for what 5-15c per load? You can make that back just picking up a can from the side of the road.

      • better hygiene

picking up a can from the side of the road

        Hmmmm…

Still probably safer than the amount of germs on your steering wheel in your car cause you never wiped it since you got the car. Just wash your hands… there are people still who have yet to caught covid and then there are people have are on their third time.

  • Is this still needed if you usually do a 60 degree wash?

    • 60 degrees doesn't kill anything… that's just for stain/dirt removal.

Cold/warm wash is fine, and then pop this in to disinfect properly.

      • Kills dust mites. That's why the bedding cycle is at 60'C.

        • +1

Yep… good point, but not germs though (which is what Canesten is for, and what I was referring to in terms of killing power).

  • I have a bunch of these at home from my last order, never buying it again simply from the cap design. The clear plastic measuring cup is the outer lid, which covers the yellow screw on cap on the inside. Every time you finishing pouring, you have to put the clear lid (which still has a lot of liquid residue left) back on the yellow cap, and it gets it all over it, and the next time you open the bottle your fingers get all sticky and slippery. We do our washing every few days and coupled with the fact that the lid encloses itself over the cap and leaves no room for the liquid to dry or evaporate, it's rather annoying that we have to wipe our fingers every time compared to other brands which don't have this issue.

    • +3

I never bother putting back the plastic cup.
No issues with the 2L ones https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/215264/can…

      • +2

Have never used the plastic cup - I clearly haven’t read the instructions because I put it in the bin.

    • +1

I move the contents into an empty softener bottle and use that bottle's cap instead, problem solved. As others mentioned, the 2L ones don't have this issue.

    • +1

Agree with this, the cap design used to be sane until they changed it a year or so back. Also the foil is much harder to peel off now.
I just throw that plastic cap out now.

  • +1

Have used these for about a year or so. I havent noticed any difference between when it's used and not used. Stopped the amazon subscription simply because of that.

p.s. - mostly used these with bed linens, tea towels and undies etc…

    • Yes i dont see how anything will survive after going through the wash with the soap, then the heat of the dryer. Never had any virus/bacteria from washed clothing or bedding in my life.

  • It won't let me buy more than one :(

  • Bought 1. Thanks OP

  • it shows $7.92, am i missing something?

  • Yep, need to work on your timing 😂
