Acer Aspire X 5830TG Notebook + 8GB RAM. $676 + Postage from MLN

i5 2430M 2.4GHz | 8Gb RAM | 15.6" | 750Gb HDD | GT540M vid card with 1Gb dedicated RAM | screen res - 1366*768 | DVD Burner | USB 3.0.

Looking through Static Ice and a Google search turned up some OK reviews and a low price of $799 (Australian retailer). It was even suggested in some reviews that this could be a mid range gaming laptop but I would take that with a degree of scepticism.

  • no mention of screen resolution, so for anyone that wants to know:
    "1366 x 768 pixels and a glossy surface"

Darn. Sorry guys. Missed that one. Thanks for the pick up miloaissatu. :-)

  • Decent for its price.

Brace yourselves, offers for Sandy Bridge notebooks are coming.

  • Be aware this model (or at least it's 13" little bro) has had overheating and clock rate issues. When under even low graphical stress the graphics card can overheat and subsequently throttle itself to much lower speeds. The build quality also seems a little sub standard, have a look-see:

ive had this for around 8 months.. we have 3 of them in our family.. no problems what so ever =)
althought we did pick them up for 600 each =)

    • $600 you say and 8 months ago(ancient history in tech time)? So this deal must be a pretty crap.

  • $29 shipping.

Make sure not to confuse this one (AS5830TG-2438g75Mn) which has an i5 2430M, with the AS5830TG-52454G75Mn which has a slightly faster chip, an i5 2450M. The reviews the OP included don't cover the same laptop (though they're probably similar enough).

I just bought this one yesterday. http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i… for $718 including delivery ($8.60) and credit card surcharge (1.5%).

  • good cpu/gpu for the price, and 66wh batt(vs typical 48wh) gives good battery life, however, glossy lo-res lcd + non removable battery can be a deal breaker for some!
