I have been keeping my eye out for a docking station / USB hub with three displays and at least one being 4K@60hz via HDMI and DisplayPort.

This satisfies my requirements so thought I'd share it since it is 30% off RRP.

It is the lowest price it has ever been according to Camel (https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B08PD5R1QM), although I did find last year's Prime deal on OZB @ $54 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/632831) - as far as I can tell they are the same.

  • I'll be amazed if you can use all 13 ports at once at max functionality

    • Ha, yeah, fair enough. I suppose I'm not expecting to ever use all the ports at once. Just nice having the option of the different ports.

      @michael9895

*BTDT - I have one of these units. Out of curiosity, I tried it out fully loaded to the hilt. Ethernet, USB-C, USB2.0, USB3.0, microSD, SD… all 13 ports! Works a charm. All work and no glitches. I have a HP laptop with a very skinny body and no room for any ports except power, USB-C & Thunderbolt. This is a great (& for me) must have accessory. This is self powered via the USB-C connection and no additional power supply required. Would not not recommend in circumstances where the host device does not supply enough power. Always check.

CONS: None, except you must ensure that the USB-C is firmly connected when attached (could be more robust).

Purchased last years Prime Day sale for $52.00 and today's price is still a bargain compared to the cheaper yum-cha specials. This unit is well built and fully supported by WavLink. Recommended you check for the driver updates when you are using it for the first time. Web-site is literally a web, but you will find the update eventually. WavLink has a myriad of current and legacy models.

*BTDT = Been There, Done That :)

      • oh wow did not expect that, I have a triple monitor setup up now and thinking of increasing to a 4 monitor setup later but unsure now due to the limitations of the 30Hz as I game frequently

  • How to use one of these if your laptop has 1 USB-C port but that is used for the power supply?

    • +2

Plug your power supply into the USB C connector on the HUB. I have mine connected like this right now.

      • Thanks. Thought I had done just this but the battery icon in the system tray did not indicate that the laptop was being powered.

  • +1

Note that you can only do 30hz on the 4k output if you are running more than 1 monitor. I have this one and it works well, just the 30hz thing annoys me.

    • Thanks, that is good to know. Are you keeping an eye on any other options?

  • Can it be used with a Chromecast TV?

    • +1

This review (https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/customer-reviews/R38BHVN61LIY2S) seems to indicate that you can with some caveats, but might be best to contact the store.

If you mean Chromecast for Google TV, I would not recommend. Look for a hub that is powered with a decent psu. I just purchased a Chromecast with Google TV and I know that this unit won't cater for it.

If you don't need Ethernet, DP, 3.5mm, and multiples of all the ports, theres also this version which houses an M2 SSD: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09YHHVJRN/

I've just bought one for my iPad Pro.

  • What about this; it can take two monitors at 60Hz.

    • Only at 1080P though
