    Thanks techfast!

Pleasantly surprised at the fact a better PSU is being used this time round

Edit: and also a ROG strix 3080 wow

  • Is it worth getting DDR5 instead of DDR4?

    • +1

Benchmarks show little difference in gaming performance

  • +2

God dang… not only good price but good quality components where it matters…

I bought a 3600/3070 pc from Techfast and I love it (after some noctua updates, sooo loud) but I kinda wish I could get this now haha.

I gotta chill, 40XX series are just around the corner and I have a more than capable machine lel

  • Not related to the build specifically but any thoughts on the ssd? Was planning on buying it and only problem with it seems to be no DRAM. Are there any better options out there for similar price of $104

  • +1

Buyer beware. ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 AM4 ATX Motherboard is a barely serviceable board with well known issues regarding its RAM compatibility.

    • Ah yikes, knew there was a catch somewhere

    • +2

What is the known problems? I have a B550M Phantom Gaming 4 and haven't experienced any issues.

I don't think RAM compatibility would be a problem, unless you plan to take the RAM out of the prebuilt system and use something else.

Forgive my ignorance, but being an assembled unit, wouldn't the seller test before dispatching? If compatibility issues are known, wouldn't that be identified instantly rather than be an issue that surfaces later?
Not trying to gouge your logic, just seeking to understand.

      • I should clarify, the mobo choice might not affect the user right now but it may cause issues later down the line.

In regards to testing an assembled unit, I would imagine they would just grab whatever is available and if it boots it sells. To get the advertised ram speed of 3200 MHz you would need to enable the XMP profile in bios. That technically is a memory overclock, and it is dependent on the CPU and motherboard's ability to offer you that speed.

3200 MHz CL16 is quite budget/conservative nowadays so it will likely work; provided you don't adjust or tune anything afterwards. However a quick google search on this motherboard model will show you the countless troubles people had when they wanted to go above 3200 Mhz. If they're having issues already with overclocking past 3200 MHz for two sticks, then I would imagine they would have issues with populating all 4 ram slots running at 3200 MHz.

Keep in mind for the Ryzen 5th gen chips in particular, the sweet-spot on performance is either 2 sticks of dual rank 3600 MHz CL16 RAM or 4 sticks of single-rank CL3200 CL16.

        • Mine goes above stock 3200 MHz. If you can't get 3200 MHz as advertised with this computer, then you should take it up with BPC Tech as that is what they advertise. I am almost certain they would be testing this and hopefully setting the XMP profile for the user.

As for overclocking, ASRock is known for not being good for overclocking. If you are looking to maximize overclock, this deal isn't the best.

  • Very similar to the Techfast deal from May but with slightly better parts (about 10% extra value)
    3080 ROG Strix vs 3080 giga - $160
    Gammaxx cooler $35
    More power PSU $15

Appreciate they have offered more customization this time around through, even the ability to upgrade to intel.
Shame the upgrade pricing is about on par with Aftershock lol

Given the string of bad luck I've had upgrading a tower and then my corsair 380T I'm very tempted to fold and get a prebuild. This one's a decent price with quality parts but the upgrade options seem high. Looked at individually the gaps seems small but it adds up fast.
Just as a quick example: the price difference between PCCG's 5600-5600x is $44, BPC's is $59. Throw in the recommended cooler and maybe another upgrade somewhere and the price no longer seems so OzB.
It's the first time I've actually looked at the upgrade options for one of these, am I just being cheap or am I missing something?

I got the Siren Vortex 12th Macho Refresh Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming PC, 2 months ago they were good to deal with. Damage panel was quickly replaced albeit with an incorrect one. A few follow ups emails and I just got my correct damaged panel today. Their builds are good value when on sale. Often coming in as saving $100-300 compared to if you build it yourself from a single supplier. The delivery eats into the savings but if you can pick up it is a decent deal. They loaded windows 11 on so I didn't have to fiddle to find a an old DVD drive to plug in. I puchased Windows 11 in the same order but not via the upgrades option in case you wanted to know.
