  • Been on my to do list for weeks, thanks ghaniyo

    • Have you been driving (at night) with a headlight down for weeks?

      • +3

        No

        • Good man

  • +1

Considering this is high /low in one, great price for a set.

    • +3

I havent had to change the highbeam bulbs in 12 years, only low beam.

So if these are both high and low, the brightness comes from different voltage being supplied to the high & low sockets?

      • -1

Most city dwellers don't get to use high beam. I'd say true ozbargainers would just swap high / low when low beam is worn. :)

        • +2

I’d say a lot of OzBargainers would struggle to change a h4 bulb without watching a video let alone trying to rewire a socket…

          • +1

@mapax: There's always a first. I just changed my H7 projector to a Philips X-tremeUltinon Gen 1 and it was a pain! My car uses the metal bracket contraption VW uses which needed to be widened.

          • +2

@mapax: I think quite a few cars use the same bulb for high / low beam. Perhaps car engineers are bargain loving types too

        • -2

Ozbargainers only play video games and eat McDonald's.

      • -1

As far as I know. The bulb doesn't do anything. Your head light tilts to project light further. Then dips back down when turned off.

        Edit
Looks like these do have 2 filaments. Not sure how it does the high beam.

        • Because the filaments are in different positions within the bulb it shifts the focal point which in turn shifts the pattern down range.

        • There is a small reflector for the low beam filament, so light is only directed downwards (which probably also works with the headlight reflector in a certain way) The high beam filament blasts in all directions.

I wish the makers of those chinese LED replacements followed this configuration. I tried a set, had 3 LED strips in a triangle, 1 up, 2 down and outwards.
The top one only came on for high beam but the bottom two were always on and because they basically covered the bottom 180 degrees the light leakage on low was so much it was like having high beams on all the time.

      • +2

They have two filaments, one for high the other for low, both same 12v. The different filaments may have same or different wattage, in this case they are 60W high and 55W low. It's the way they cast light from the two different filaments that gives a low or high beam. Some vehicles have seperate lights for low and high, but H4 is a combined solution.

    • -1

I don't think so. Can't be way cheaper than free.

      • How are you getting free bulbs? Some sort of refund scam? Putting them into your backpack at an auto store?

        • Customers leave their halogens at our shop when they go in for their LED conversions. Halogens that are either brand new or like-new and given for free to anyone who needs them, anything in used condition or even slightly worn is thrown out.

  • Limit 1 per order.
