    Thanks op.
Is there anyone without a laptop at this rate?

  • When is the 14" version cumming out?

Also is the 3050Ti worth it over the 3050 or 1650? I do a bit of light gaming here and there.

Is the battery life cromulent on discrete GFX models when doing normal office work?

Also I remember seeing somethign about 6000 Ryzen CPUs supporting USB4 which would have TB3 as default. Does this model have that or nah?

    • I'm running a 1650ti in my laptop and it goes fine while plugged in.
You won't be running things in well in Ultra but it does the job.
If I were buying a new laptop late 2022 I'd probably look for something more future proof though as it is 2019 tech.

    • A 3050 is about 7% to 15% slower compared to a 3050ti on average.

The dGPU models have reduced battery life because the Nvidia 3000 series idle power consumption is not the best.

Ryzen 6000 SOC supports USB4. Unfortunately it's up to the OEM's how they implement it. Some laptops just need a firmware upgrade, but it depends if the OEM provides such an update.

    • I have a 1650 (Similar machine to this , except 5800H) and it handles light gaming well.

      I don't game unplugged though.

      Happy with the quality.

IMO paying extra for those GPUs is not really worth it.

    $1400 for a 1650 really doesn't seem that great

    • agreed. we need a good sub-$900 for a 1650, now that would be decent.

      • Well this isn't a gaming laptop. It's a thin laptop, under 2kg, with a dedicated GPU, big battery, QHD 120hz 100% sRGB, and full metal chassis.

The gaming laptops with similar GPU spec usually have a worse screen, plastic chassis, much smaller battery and weight over 2.4kg.

If you can please provide me a link to a laptop with similar spec that is below this price range, that is in stock, to backup your statement.

        • I haven't managed to find a thin laptop in that price range, hence why I've been holding off from buying one.

closest thing I've found with similar specs and good price is the Dell G15 5515 (R5-5600H, RTX3050, 2.4kg) for $999, sometimes even cheaper. the bulkiness and weight is a turnoff though. I kinda wish they kept the formfactor of the older Dell G3 15 3590 laptops.

          https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/gaming-and-games/g15-ryzen-e…

I'll keep my eye out for a suitable alternative though. would love to know if you have suggestions at a similar price point to the G15.

        • Laptops with 3060s in them frequently are available at $1600. Just gotta keep your eyes open. Your point about the screen is valid, it is harder to find one with a decent screen at that price point, but not impossible. Dell G5s, Acer Nitro, ASUS TUF; all have garbage screens. But if you can get a Legion (or even a Gaming 3) or an Omen they generally have good screens in them (much better than 100% sRGB. That really is a pretty terrible baseline).

          • @ASR-Briggs: Unfortunately they are all gaming laptops which weigh more than the one in this deal. The only comparable laptop with a 3060, with a gimped TGP, is the Lenovo Thinkbook. The screen is high quality, but not 120hz. The new version with the Ryzen 6000 series CPU also has USB4. It's targetted towards designers who need CUDA. Unfortunately I have never seen the previous gen model get close to $16000, and expect the same for this gen.

@shellshocked: Unfortunately, in the current climate if you NEED thin and light and you NEED cuda you are kind of screwed. If you don't need cuda, the new AMD 6000s would fit the bill.

But either way, it's a real FeelsBadMan paying $1400 for a new laptop with a graphics architecture that is 4 years old.

  • what is this ? Nvidia 1650 ?

  • This but with RAM slots would be almost ideal. sigh
