90

Not bad to lose $2 for something to keep those little rascals busy during their school holidays. Various colours available. Even if your children are making pointless things with these colourful clays for even 1 hour per day, that means you can have some peace and ponder how did you ended up wasting half of 2022. OR be productive & get your tax returns done.

  • Fwiw 20 pack play-doh (20 shades of different colour) is $15.20 at target - or $17.99 delivered on amazon with prime ( I paid about $15 the other day plus upsized cashback). Will keep my kids going for at least 2 months.

Yet to find any off brand play-doh that’s as good as the real deal. The worst one by far has been the Ikea ones which kinda were watery/mushy/turned into a paste before we even opened them….

The ones from Target are 84grams each, the one from Kmart is 700grams.

Ooof my bad didn’t actually go into the link and see it is actually a jumbo tub of modelling compound hahahahahaha - wasn’t obvious from write up l, or Kmarts title or thumbnail - good deal - have an updoot

Kid: Mum can we have some play-doh?

Mum: We already have some play-doh at home

Play-doh at home: Crusty tub of 700g Anko Modelling Clay

Honestly, I would probably be more than happy to have this as a kid

      • As a kid I had none of these.

As a dad now if it’s reasonable I’ll splash out on the real deal. Inflation be damned.

This is so odd. I've bought and received play-doh for the kids, and it's always dry and crumbly.

Bought the anko dough, and it's waaayyyy better. More pliable and not crumbly / dry.

This is not a one off occasion with play doh, I suspected they started to cut costs and reduce their quality.

Edit: and to clarify, OP is modelling clay, not dough. Anko have a dough too, this is what I was referring to. Not the clay.

      • I’ve been through about 3 packs of 20 now and some themed packs with my boys and the OG play doh seemed pretty good still (until they start getting mixed together and left out too long).

I do have a set of anko ones from some years back when I was first introducing it to my older kid and I specifically remember going well this just ain’t the same haha it was definitely a fraction of the price of the OG play doh even then.

Very odd experience I've had then. Even freshly opened is crumbly. Maybe the gifted stuff was on sale… Who knows….

          For me anko is great.

@chillipaste: I've had the same experience as chillipaste. The anko stuff doesn't dry out and get crumbly after 1 use and has been pretty good.

  • These are messy and stain your fingers and table moreso than Play-Doh.

Cannot be worse than the ikea one which left a weird oily residue/smell even after cleaning the visible parts off. Beginning to wonder if I just grabbed a faulty batch.

Make your own as a fun activity with the kids?

Google Home Made Playdough no bake.. the recipes online are similar to this

    Ingredients
    2 cups plain flour
    1 cup salt
    1 tbs oil
    1/2 - 1 cup cold water
    2 drops liquid food colouring

We did this at play group and it works well…

When you're done, put it in an airtight bag/container and store in the fridge.

It also feels awesome to play with when it's cold
    .

We also had no issues with any staining and if it gets on clothes, it washes out easily. It's also non toxic in case it is eaten.. plus as you made it yourself, you know exactly what's in it.

    • Don't forget to bake it and eat it. Yummy. Salty for days.

    • I’m all for home made play dough. But I’m also all for just grabbing some store bought stuff out of the cupboard when I don’t have time to DIY. I’m still working my way through dough from this deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/592113 Still nice and soft in little individually wrapped packs. True about colours though - pastel is the way to go to avoid staining.
