    Can't wait for the DLC

    • Plenty of DLC for this one, from blitz chess (for the speedrunners) to Casablanca chess (for those who hate memorising opening books).

Can I wear jeans while playing this?

As long as they aren't Bluetooth. ;-)

  • If you've got stock available at a local, might want to try pick it up in-store. This scanned for $4 at my local Kmart just a couple of days back.

  • Remember to use up all catch.com.au credit/gift cards . They being shut down.

    • reckon catch would have some last minute sales to clear stock?

      • +1

It's likely, though they sell a lot of 3rd party products so not sure how much stock would actully be "Catch" inventory. A lot will probably just get pushed toward extra stock over the next few months for Kmart/Target/Myer before they have a closing down Sale closer to April.

  • I have this.

Definitely you will notice that corners have been cut, the pieces are not all perfectly identically shaped (like the pawns for example). All cheap wood covered in resin.

In the end, can't complain for the price. It's a cheap wooden chess set (with checkers but who plays that)

    • (Checker players)

  • Unless you are prepared to pay $$$, never bother with wooden pieces. They are unpleasant chessmen to play with, particularly if they are unweighted, such as here.

The problem are always the knights, which cannot simply be knocked out on a lathe. Crafting knights is something that takes years to learn:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WJoR9QH12k

If your kid is wanting to play seriously, they may as well get used to standard competition resin pieces.

  • It's a chess set. You can play chess with it. For $8 I wouldn't expect much more. For someone that has no better option it's great.

  • This is down to $4 if you can find stock.
