Think I might go get these from OW just to spite the good guys, have had some less than good experiences buying stuff from them.

Sweet as deal though, and my trusty x530's just bit the dust so it's good timing :)

Edit: on second thoughts however it looks like many of the reviews on their site (copied from Logitech.com I think) are very negative - I'll definitely be doing some more research before buying.

    • There are a mixture of reviews on our site, you can sort in different ways and with over 60 reviews they aren't all negative. The Z506's are our top selling speaker system. http://bit.ly/LogitechZ506ReadAReview

anyone thinking about it i do recomend these, they work brilliant with my ps3( if runnign via hdmi just plug in av as well then set in audio settings as you can use hdmi as well as these, n64, wii, pc, nes,

    • +5

ummm, if you don't plug these into a 5.1 decoder like a receiver you're just gonna get stereo.

      • I wouldn't recommend buying these; as Alzori stated they have average reviews even on the logitech site itself. Users reporting popping and flat sound, it is likely these are being EOL'd and hence the discounts.

RRP on the site also says $149 hah.

Anyone with a laptop without a stand-alone sound card or specified 5.1 onboard, you will likely only get sound from 2 speakers! Take note!

        • Even if you have a stereo input you should still get sound out off all the speakers, these have "3D stereo" and worst comes to worst you should still at least get sound out of 4 speakers and the sub, you just won't get surround sound.

        • Windows has an option for "sound fill" pretty much feeds the rears with the front signals. 2.1 with 4 speakers

        • We've got over 60 reviews on our site which are a mixture of awesome, good, ok reviews etc http://bit.ly/LogitechZ506ReadAReview
You can still get surround sound from them, we have lots of people using them on laptops etc.
These speakers are not end of life.

  • There good starting speakers, I upgraded to the z906 the day I bought these thought as they were much to quiet for my liking, I might get a set though and split my sound into these and my 2.1 Z906

\wow these are quite cheap.. even cheaper than the cheapest ones I could find on eBay (and with warranty too). The only problem is I feel kind of annoyed everytime I see a Dick Smith sale after their "sale" fiasco earlier this year.

    • +8

Who said anything about Dick Smith?

      • +8

I'm retarded and commented on the wrong deal.

  • excuse me
    i wondered what is OW??
    thanks

    http://tinypic.com/r/2vmak38/6

  • mmm tempted but X-540's are still going strong. Might need to get a set then get a new comp aswell :P

    • It will sound exactly like the x-540s/530's

  • Can a store be in another city to price match with Office Works?
I'm in Launceston, and the nearest Good Guys is in Melbourne…300km away..

    • Not really sure about this. But OW website said that you can make a price match by making a call. You should try that

    • The Good Guys Just opened down in Moonah So Id say its worth a shot, same state at least

???? Since when has Logitech become apart of Microsoft ?

  • I tried this on my TV. Setup was:
Optical Audio Out From TV > Optical to Analog Converter > Analog Input Z506.
Worked fine. You have to make sure your converter supports 5.1 I think in order for you to get surround?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

But good deal! Got mine this morning at Good Guys Castle Hill. I got the last one on the shelf…

    • Hi there, can you tell me what "Optical to Analog Converter" you are using? I've been trying to buy one of these for a long time now.

      • Same here… and where did u buy it - Any review?

  • +4

Long time ago Logitechshop had this one for $49. Better deal but I doubt it will return soon

    • No, it wont. coz LTS has no Z506 left/

  • -3

$49 are you serious how long ago was this i dont think ive ever seen it at that price. Could some one who has this are you able to get surround 5.1 on this using a western digital media player? just using opitcal in and out right?

  • Any specials on LOGITECH Z623 Speaker System anywhere?

  • ow guy says web price only. can u buy online and walk in to pickup at gg's and not pay postage?

  • Just got it from OW at $58.9 :)…Sweet!

  • -1

i just got it from Good Guys for 62$

but wonder, why my centre speaker doesnt work?
tried to replug the cable to the main bass speaker, but nothings work

the good guys doesnt want to price match with OW, the guys said they just match JB and HN

    • Well that's because the price of these speakers at Officeworks is higher….

If you want the lower price at Officeworks you need to price match the good guys at Officeworks.

  • For anyone who owns these: do they actually sound any good? I've had a bad experience with both Z323s and Z523s with terrible mid-range reproduction, and those are dedicated 2.1 speakers at a supposedly higher price point.

I'm seriously considering buying a set of Microlab Solo 6Cs instead. They cost twice as much as these Logitechs, though.

    • +2

They are pretty average, like most logitech speakers, im a pretty big fan of the SP2500's or the Audioengine A2's atm, bit more exxy but such a huge step up in sound quality.

The Swan H2's also get pretty decent reviews as well and they are a pretty good price.

    • We have a heap of reviews on our website from different people http://bit.ly/LogitechZ506ReadAReview

    • It's obviously quality is going with higher cost. But which brand can beat Z506 at this price? I just got one from OW for $58.9 after price matching and it's just perfect. Decent sound and cool looking.

      • The problem is that they aren't true 5.1, they are just emulated, better off just getting a set of 2.1's.

Ive had the previous model of these (x-530's if memory serves) while they were ok, they dont really hold a candle to anything in the 150-250 category.

My personal pick of logitech speakers are the 906's, they are very impressive, combined with DTS encoding and hardware dolby built in. You are paying for quality though.

        • I'm kind of in love with the 906 but my budget does not allow me to get one =). Anyway, my room's a bit small so i think the 506 would be more suitable

  • Any good sound suggestions for Mac? Somethign that just plugs in and not via airport

  • yeah. the rear speaker doesnt really affect the sounds though

  • +1

I got these speakers but I am only getting sound from two speakers when listening to music…..why is this? =S I've performed a sound check and all 5 speakers all work…..sorry if I'm noob

    • Buzz our team 1800 025 544 to get some help with 'em

    • Not sure if you solved your problem already or not…but on your computer if you have realtex audio manager
you have to make sure you tick 'Speaker Fill' in the options

after that they should all work!
and if you did tick it and still nothing happens make sure you have the latest audio driver for your computer

  • using them now. pretty disappointed.the bass is terrible. just like a drum. no mids at all. high end is virtually non existant.

finally Max volume is pretty bleh. wouldn't even be loud enough for a simple house party.

    • +1

Well you pay for what you get, and these weren't designed to fill a house or used at a party, they can comfortably fill a decent sized room for personal entertainment or watching a movie.
They're basically a cheap man's entry into surround sound for limited space around the computer or TV (stretching it with the TV but it works, even if just)

      • Have to agree with your comment. You get what you pay for and it's decent for a small bedroom. I bought them second hand less than a year ago at $50 so $59 brand new at OW is the way to go.

It's a relative thing. You are not going to have highend sound at a budget price.

        • yeah just letting people know. watching movies is terrible. put up bass and u can't hear any words spoken. coz the bass is so low and broad. only real use for this speaker is directly sitting in front of computer playing games.

        • They shouldn't be that bad, granted they aren't home theatre systems that will power an Event Cinema, but they should handle themselves pretty well. Buzz our team 1800 025 544 to get some help with 'em, could be faulty set. Also check the volume on back of sub, cable connections and sound card and/or windows device settings

  • also terrible buzzing noise when I turn off TV or computer.makes it virtually unusable.did I get a dud? may have to refund on this…..

    • Yeah you find this with powered speakers sometimes (I had the LS21).

If its really loud I would return them (or noticeable when playing), otherwise turn them off when ur not using them.

You should anyway as the speaker don't know ur TV/Comp is off so they will draw quite a bit of power when not playing sound and on.

Otherwise I found if the speaker cables are near other electric wires you notice the sound more (its prb small electrical interference being converted to sound) so u can try and isolate them more it helps.

  • Tried to get a price match from Office Works here in Darwin. The guy told me that the price has been lowered in store to $62 this morning.

  • funny this came up…i got these back in december …front right speaker just stopped working. have to send it back for warranty. sad face

  • first thing ow guy said to me about price match was "yes we price match, but if its msy then we won't"

I wonder if that is legal? msy is a legit au abn company.

    • misleading advertising, mention ACCC, yaddy yaddy yada.

  • Can anyone recommend any digital surround sound speakers (or amp with speakers) in the $200 to $500 range that are superior to these Logitechs in sound quality? I intend to use them in a bedroom connected to a computer, so I seek good quality sound at lowish volumes rather than neighbour shaking speakers. Currently I only have an old Sound Blaster Live X-Fi card (Analogue output only) but I was thinking of purchasing an Asus Xonar with digital out.

    • Take a look at some corsair ones maybe?

    • Corsair SP2500's are pretty good all rounders, 2.1 though, The swam M50W is also quite good
