Cheesecake Shop quality has gone down hill lately they don't make them like they used to

Korean cake shops have far better cakes than Cheesecake shop.

      • Any Korean cake shops to recommend in Melbourne?

        • MORECAKE

    • True, the black forest we ordered the last time was not even worth $5!! The sponge was dry, with no chocolate taste at all, and the colour was grayish and then it was the overpowering taste of the raspberry jam! Just like the cold and flu syrups we used to have when we were young.

may be it is the winter/ covid special?

  • +3

They get stingy with these vouchers, on t&c

    • +2

How? Give you a smaller cake?

  • +6

It's almost like they use store bought cake mix in their cakes these days…

Well presented though, in most cases.

    • +1

Ill let you in on a trade secret… all the stores do. TO varying degrees, but its unsustainable and extremely impractical to not use box cake mixes in cake shops.

  • +4

Thank you, bought one. Used to love their blackforest, hopefully the recipe is still the same. You can probably use the voucher multiple time if ordering online.

    • +1

Fwiw the black Forrest is passable, had one earlier this year.

    • +4

No it's not the same, please don't buy the black forest you won't taste anyy chocolate flavour in the cake.

  • +7

There quality has gone the way of Michelle's Patisserie… Frozen cakes sent and stored onsite rather then made fresh years ago… Prefer to buy directly from a wholesaler that actually supply the cake shops .. made daily and not frozen

    • +3

How do you find the wholesalers?

      • +2

        Fresher especially the cheese cakes

        • +14

I meant how do you locate them to order from them? Do you know someone who works at cheesecake factory and has seen the wholesaler delivery slips? I'm in Melbourne northern suburbs.

            • +3

@chuneeperformance: You're buying one cake from a wholesaler? How does that work?

              • +5

@dust: Hey man, I think they're talking about Homebush Cakes. They're a wholesaler, but also let you buy individual cakes when you turn up. I remember one of my coworkers took me there many years ago (like 2015) and it was like this lot in an industrial complex.

I'm not sure if they're still open - Google seems to suggest they are, but their Facebook was last updated 2018 and their website is showing a 2012 catalogue lmao. But worth giving them a buzz and asking.

                • @clem: Google Maps has a review from 3 months ago saying they loved the coconut bread from them they just ate while in hospital. Guessing they still exist.

            • @chuneeperformance: this was very helpful, thanks /s

        • +12

I think he is asking where you find these wholesalers???

      • I'd like to know as well.

    • I Tasted some items from a retailer who gets from "Madhouse Bake House" in Sydney, and most items were extremely delicious and fresh.

However I don't know whether they sell to the public or not.

  • These guys still exist? Haven’t had one in years.

Sounds from the comments here like they mightn’t last much longer.

    • Girlfriends sister got a caramel cheesecake from them last month for her birthday and it was awesome. Had a slice of chocolate cake from there at work for someone's birthday recently too and it was really nice. Would've been two different stores. Maybe it depends on the area if your particular store is good or not?

  • +2

Gotta say had the marble baked cheesecake a few weeks ago and it was pretty damn good

  • lemme know how these go, all the prev deals have people saying the shops won't honor them for T&C.

    • If you place the order online for pickup I guess you get around that issue?

      • +1

Few people last time said they asked for the physical voucher on pickup. Refunded if you couldn’t produce it

  • How does cheesecake shop compare to Breadtop and 85 degrees cake shop?

    • -1

      Breadtop is much better imo

      • Breadtop is pretty bad…

        • +1

Yeah it is but my local breadtop cake honestly tastes better than the Cheesecake Shop one. Not saying I'd go there for cake but of I had to pick from the 2 options I'd go with breadtop.

Sad because the Cheesecake Shop cake used to taste great but of late it's so dry and just doesn't taste nice. Have had to throw more than half of it out on 2 most recent purchases… :(

I even bought a black forest gateaux from woolies and that tasted better. Maybe it's just the Cheesecake shop I was getting it from :/.

  • +1

Our local is hit or miss. Had an amazingly fresh strawberry torte then went back the following week and bought the same cake and it was dry AF.

  • Nothing happens after I type in the promo code and click on 'apply discount'. Anyone else facing this?

    • Choose a cake and not a cheesecake.

    • Worked fine just then at Phillip ACT store.

  • Code not working……

    • OzBargained? Hah didn't realise OzBargainers are sugar tubbies with super sweet tooth…

    • how to get code working…

      • +1

Choose a cake and not a cheesecake.

  • +4

If you want value for money, try Costco cakes. They are enormous.

    • na man wants quality thats why cheesecake shop

      • +10

I wouldn't put cheesecake shop and quality in the same sentence..

      • +3

Costco cheesecakes are good and value for money. Hope you like a very large cake. Unfortunately, the range is limited to plain or strawberry.

    • +2

Range is very very limited at Costco

    • Yep costco is the only place i know that sells cakes by the kelo.

    • Ive only tried the mud cake and it tasted… Odd. Like it wasn't 100% choc tasting and had some fruit flavour mixed in, probably from the cheesecakes. Which cakes do you recommend, I've seen people comment that black forests are also up and down depending on the day

      • +2

Caramel Cheesecake, Blueberry Mountain Cheesecake, Coffee Pecan Torte and Chocolate Mudcake. I do want to try their cookies and cream cheesecake

        • Wow, I've only seen blueberry and caramel cheesecake. Coffee pecan and cookies and cream sound good, don't think we have it in WA 😢

    • would you like to supersize fries with that

    • Value yes. Taste no… the sheet cakes are gross.
The Almondy cake from the freezer though is amazing.

  • +2

Never understood why these stores are so popular, their cakes are so meh every time I have tried them over the last 20+ years

  • +2

    Ordered the Jamaican cheese cake.
    Horrendous taste.
Never thought I would be throwing a cheese cake in the bin.

  • +1

try several cakes but code not working :(

  • +5

I love the taste of cheesecake shop cakes. They're freshly thawed right at the store.

  • +2

If you are after a quality cake - Looma's Cakes makes the most amazing cakes. Pricey but well worth it. They don't have a shopfront and do deliveries only. They are located in Sydney.

    • +1 for Looma's.
All cakes are made to order, which guarantees freshness.

  • What’s the cheapest cake you can get with this deal?

  • +1

Just tried to use a photo of this voucher in-store in Willoughby NSW. No success. The owner looked angry. When I mentioned I could order with it online he said he would still require the original voucher. I wonder how you guys went with that

    • +1

order online and pick up, they dont ask for the voucher since its already been paid for.

    • +1

Yeh just order online for collection, they don't check what code/voucher you use as long as the order is paid.

  • +1

Code wont work on full size baked cheesecake?

    • +2

I tried with quad choc and it worked, maybe it's store specific like dominos vouchers
