Original Coupon Deal

Yes this is a Homage/replica/clone whatever you want to call it.
Yes a couple of similar watches have been posted.
Yes Pagani Design has been doing this for a while - watches are waterproof and have decent/semi decent movements from Miyota and Seiko which are a step above whatever they put in some fakes.

My interpretation though is as they're not replicating the Rolex intricacies/branding it's tolerable. Have a look at their alternatives as well such as the Speedmaster, Nttd, Daytona and Tudor examples.

*Price is before adding coupons.

Can't really complain though when you're getting a mechanical, waterproof watch with sapphire glass that looks like something 10X more.

TBH i was in the market for a GMT before covid, now not so much given the prices.

Definitely not a homage . Pretty much a complete rip off the GMT Master

I’d rather just get a seiko or orient than rock a Knock off

    • +4

I mean they've cloned it down to the detail on the hour hand. How is anyone negging you?

Same ones who neg Godiva chocolate deals.

ok you do that speedrunner, i have this one and its a great piece. this one is not japanese movement, if you want a japanese movement go for their sub or yachtmster or daytona homages,

    • +2

TBH it sounds like Ozbargain is ok with Seiko homages

Yet get triggered when a rolex is replicated?

      • Seiko watches are priced with well until you go up to the PADI / grand range

So I’m not sure why you would what to get a Seiko homage when you can just get a Seiko ?

      • -2

That one's not on either, but only to a lesser degree. Better?

You guys might be over-estimating mankind's capacity to process this level of flattery of certain designs. Watches are a fashion statement. Thieves make you a target, real watch nerds roll their eyes, worthy women avoid you, business clients get confused, etc. but most of all…. for the whole day you'd be wearing something that looks like a gmt ii with a second hand that ticks lol … But hey, I suppose this is 2022 so do whatever you like.

Just don't pretend that these stuff is mainstream, because they are not.

        • +2

    Can't really complain

I guess you're either one that's into paying for design/R&D/labour or not as much.

Seiko's revenue/net-income ratio is down at around 1.5%. I really don't feel like they're taking me for a ride buying their products lol

Pagani specs and build quality are objectively amazing bang for buck, but I personally can't see a place for them for most people when they are straight up design copies (not clones, or taking design cues, straight up copies) of well-established watches. Sure, the specs are great for 150 bucks, but what are those specs trying to achieve?

      1. If you are trying to impress (or fool) watch bros, it won't work.
      2. If you are trying to impress women/people, most people honestly don't care about blingy watches.
      3. If you just need a quality bang-for-buck beater, get a Casio and buy some beer and pizza with the change left over.

For the record, I would buy an original design Pagani with those specs in a heartbeat. But, as it turns out, creating high-quality, ground-up branding and design is hard and kind of expensive.

      • creating high-quality, ground-up branding and design is hard and kind of expensive.

        This.

      • +2

I agree paganis niche is a bit strange

I think its more for someone who wants to try out the watch before going the full way with a $10k investment. Or you're stuck in a 1 year waiting period to get your hands on one (myself included)

Sure you can buy a clone but the water resistant credentials are questionable at best and you wouldn't be able to use it as a daily beater

        • Pagani buyers like me, i like the look of rolex but are not willing to spend that much even if i had the money to do so. not buying this to impress woman, i know most woman dont know shit about watches, nor am i buying to impress guys as im straight, im buy them simply coz i like the look of them and how closely they imitate rolex and i wear them as a fashion accessory and not to tell time.

i like pagani's quality to dollar ratio, best on the market as far as damn near clone to the original without being a fake, meaning with fake rolex logo. it has its own logo and branding on the dial and crown and the back which i prefer, im not pretending im wearing a rolex if someone asks me ill say its a pagani and than they can google it. it functions just like a real rolex meaning it tells time reliably, with a very reliable Japanese movement, sapphire glass, stainless steel, great quality bracelet. costs %0.5 to %1 of the real watch. most rolex buyers store their watch in a safe and hardly wear it in fear of damaging it which would reduce the price, with these you wont be affraid to wear them or damage them as they cost so little.

keep in mind the GMT version has a chinese movement, if you want japanese movement, go with submariner or yachtmaster or daytona or datejust

          • -2

@striker5950: Then you can't afford it. Ones can afford won't so bluntly claim to not buy it even having they spare coins to do so (despite really like the design). Because it is indeed a very small amount of money to them (that is Rolex' target audience) as well don't mind an accidental scratch here and there from daily use.

You like the design, and partly why they are so popular amongst others. Without regard for originality and copyright, you choose to buy a copy.

Those mentioning 12 months wait time for a Rolex, partly true, especially some sought after models.

Hour Glass is not short on stock on most Rolex subs and readily have one available for their regulars. Source: a family member picked up 3 different Rolex in one week.

            • +2

@Domicron: $14k for black submariner seems a bit crazy to me considering rolex is the single largest brand swiss auto watch manufacturer in switzerland so im not sure about supply issues except to create urgency and demand …. they make wayyy more watches than omega.

read up on the history of rolex …it’s only in the last 25 years that they make their own movements ….before that they had movements made for them …

              • +2

@garage sale: A Tudor blackbay 58 would be better value, may not be what you want but shouldn't decrease in value either. Rolex wait list is mental, and people are paying crazy prices.

                • -1

@G-rig: No. There isn't a very long wait list for Rolex except a few specific models.

Nor shops like Hourglass sell above rrp.

              • @garage sale: How long is a piece of string? A hulk easily doubles of that amount. Ones wearing it, wears it for daily.

One can not like it, but knock off like "Pigani" is just low.

                • @Domicron: The submarina style is the most generic dive watch style around, almost every brand has something that looks similar.

Agree, the Hulk's, Pepsi etc. Daytona's have waits and increase in value.
Deosn't really matter though, I aint getting one

            • @Domicron: The waiting list isn't so much a queue as a pecking order list. Ie it's not like I put my name down and a year later I'll get a call if all I need to do is to be patient - its more like a lottery ticket. Only when the regulars have had their fill a lucky newbie might get a chance, and from what you described it's unlikely to happen.

I spent an hr at the Hourglass. Great experience, but I really don't expect to hear back…ever. I was wondering why they invest the time in newbies like me when they have more customers than product, but it occurred to me that it's part of the curating process of having that backlog of customer supply.

              • -1

@ShoeyAU: No idea. Like said, a family friend went in and picked up 3 in a single week. All 3 visits took less than 10 mins. Hence, there is no shortage of Rolex.

Overall, sought after models can be limited, as they have always been. But, no shortage like many has claimed.

  • +2

Worth mentioning you won't be getting a japanese movement with any of pagani's gmts. Definitely Chinese movement in this one

    • Yeah better off spending a bit (or fair bit) more if you're into these and get a better movement
The Cronos microbrand watches are apparently top notch and probably the best homage of this.

      https://youtu.be/9c6SBIa_YWA

    • Agreed
But the seiko equipped ones are pretty decent

      • Yeah the Seikos with screw down crown and 200m resistance are fine (i got a PD-1694).

        • I rock my SKX007 more than my Submariner.

For some reason it's got more character and charm.

I got from by Long Island Watches while in the states and they checked timing etc.

Thing only loses like 5 secs a month after the tune.

          • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Brilliant, I've heard of that shop, would have been good to get the skx007 but missed the boat on those by a few years. great daily

    • -2

nobody cares about the movement of a $100 watch.

      • +1

They do if it's got a good one in it and doesn't break after 3 months.

I know what you mean, but these days a $100 watch was probably a $400 one a few years ago

      • Better the movement the more accurate generally
So yes if using this everyday it does matter

      • $100 auto watches are in the n35a type market and country of origin is only part of equation, the model of the movement is also important ETA make a lot of swiss movements some are good some are bad ….but they are swiss, the model of the movements is important.

Anyone supporting this IP infringement is a bum

Currently wearing one of their other ones, it's more accurate than the Seiko 5 I have. And the build quality is actually quite decent.

The only bad thing about the whole watch is the clasp, the finish isn't that great, the edges are super sharp and you can hurt yourself or others around you with them. It could be an isulated issue with mine only. Who knows.

This one in Blue. I'll try put up some pics for those who are interested.

      • Those Tiffany dials pop

        • They do man, they look so good. Out of all my watches, I really enjoy wearing this one.

      • so how do you wear it if the clasp is so badly finished?

        • I got a different bracelet but it didn't look that great. I ended up just filing it a bit so it's not that bad anymore. Had to strip it apart but wasn't too bad.

  • Why would you want to buy a bootleg? If you can’t buy the real one then buy something that is good & you can afford, I have never faced peer pressure to buy a very expensive watch. I wouldn’t recommend getting a knock-off unless you are an influencer, in that case I would suggest voluntary assisted d….

    • +4

its not a bootleg though, if the logo said rolex than its a bootleg

      • +2

yep, doesn't have rolex written on it, it's a homage ….. there aren't unlimited design options unless you want some real ugly watches e.g Invicta Marvel Joker watch.
Seiko make speedmaster look alikes ….. current favourite beater watch is Addisdive submariner style quartz …. I have the pagani daytona style watch … great value for money but omega has speedmaster, rolex has daytona, seiko has a speedmaster …. there are some designs that are practical and it's why some designs come in different sizes but no design change just size becasue they are practical designs.

  • every photo, the GMT hand is wrong. does that mean anything

  • +5

The word "homage" gets misused a lot these days. It doesn't get any inspiration from the original watch at all. This watch is basically a 1:1 copy. The only thing different to the original is the branding

    • +4

Design of the watch paying homage to Rolex, and it's logo paying homage to Tudor… Misuses is underquoting. More like abused.

Well, and it's name is also paying homage to Pagani Automobili S.p.A.

  • +1

Being a watch collector of myself. I’d almost classify this as a fake/rep. There’s no association to any brand/heritage in these ‘homage’ designs other than to the brand that they’ve took.

For your money, Seikos are one bloody amazing watch (even Casios are a good offering). And is still my beater watch to this day (SBGE253) Your money goes far more with a watch that you can wear and wear a brand that holds nostalgia and a history. Compared to this knock off/fake/rep of my favourite watch to date.

    • +2

Ohh Grand Seiko, that would be nice, that one is 7-10k on eBay. You're correct, the brand recognition of Seiko is still pretty strong, just have to chose the right models as some are good some are bad and you get what you pay for, but hardly good value anymore.

I mean for $600-700 most still only have mineral crystal, cheap bracelets (rattley hollow end links and cheap clasps), movements older than the NH35 equivalent etc. Generally their faces hands and lume are great though.

Times have changed a bit for what you can get for your money, kind of agree though, I'd like something with enough originality to not look like a rip off, and Pagani get no points for that when the just photocopy the Rolex catalogue.

One or two are fun to see whether you like them and the style/features you want. Not much to risk for $100-150.

      • +1

        Nothing wrong with mineral glass.

Yes they do scratch easier than sapphire buy my Seiko that uses mineral has been banged against many hard / sharp surfaces and hasn't cracked at all

And even with scratches its barely picked up 1-2 over the 5-6 years i've owned mine which I wear 4-5 times a week.

        • +1

That's alright, you can get some poly glass too to buff out scratches.

It's more to do with what they should be providing spec wise for the asking price these days.

Big mod scene for Seiko too, you can upgrade to sapphire crystal fairly easily and cheaply

    • +1

Yupe! I am truely amazed by what Seiko can offer. The 9r65 is excellent and keeps very accurate time.

Barely any scratch on the watch been used as a daily beater.

Despite a recent $300 increase on the snowflake, still cheap for what it offers and excellent value.

What is impressive about GS is the subtlety that went into it. The snowflake doesn't have illuminated dials, yet, not hard to read under low light. A combination of angles of each dial, and the very shiny polish makes it legible under an absolute minimal amount of light.
