The popular Xiaomi Pad 5 is back on sale again with Black being the cheapest, except there's only a low quantity available. The next cheapest is White for US$311.70 (~A$453.44). This tablet has a really nice display (better than the Lenovo XiaoXin OLED imo) and good performance for gaming.

Edit: Black is now cheapest.

Widevine L1 for Prime HD/Netflix:

Currently there is a bug impacting some people where Widevine L1 reverts back to L3 making Netflix/Prime play in SD. There's discussion surrounding fixes such as updating the Widevine Certificate and disabling automatic brightness or clearing the app cache.

Damn! I just bought this item several minutes before I saw this coupon!

  • Pad 6 should be out in August? Anyone know?

    • +1

The rumour is the 6 is coming. Wait if you can as this price isn't crazy

    • Mi Pad 4 was released in 2018 and Mi Pad 5 in 2021.

I was in the market for a tablet back in 2019. I followed the rumours and ended up waiting for months for the Mi Pad 5.

Unless the device has been officially announced by Xiaomi, I would not hold your breath.

Wonder if that would fix the widevine bug.. repeatedly having to do a 'fix' aside, imagine paying close to $500 knowing it's a hobbled tablet

      • Depends on the CPU they decide to use. I'm fairly certain the issue with the Pad 5 is that it's an unsupported CPU by Netflix and it keeps getting delisted. If they opt for one of the approved CPUs it should be no issue.

        • I’m surprised a high end Snapdragon 8 series CPU is not supported by Netflix.

  • @clear thoughts on the telecast m40 air?

Just a refresh with nothing too amazing except a bump from 6GB to 8GB RAM. The UNISOC T618 is a better CPU than the MediaTek P60 so I'd consider others like the Alldocube iPlay 40 series and Teclast T40 Pro.

    No expandable storage.

  • Ahhhhh I got the Lenovo p11 pro (old edition) with the 60Hz Oled panel from one of your posts.

AFAIK this is IPS LCD, so wouldn’t even a budget OLED panel be better (like my tablet)? Imo between a high end Oled (iPhone) and the tab p11 pro OLED, there’s not that much difference. Maybe 10-20% difference HDR, colour gamut wise etc

    • Pentile OLED isn't very sharp when looked at closely. Plus the blacks seem to have some ghosting.

      • Valid point I agree! the pentile is 100% noticeably less sharp, vs same panel and PPI for other brands.

It’s not bad though tbh.blacks aren’t perfect, but imo, it’s solid.

In hindsight, I would’ve wanted a 90hz panel on it and a stronger CPU, but I’ll live haah

  • Is it just me or is the battery a bit small for an 11" tablet? phones are way smaller and are sitting around 4500-5000 mAH capacity with similar internal specs.
