Edited to include new slots
Recently graduated and landed in a job, I have a big way to go, but just wanted to check how much does a OzB make per annum.
Thanks in advance for votes.

Nothing below 50K for us minimum wage earners?
dude, all Oz bargainers are on 200K+ and Crypto millionaire
Not me :(
Lucky dog I wanted to be a billionaire too
How much do you get paid?
Not enough.
Too much.
170-190 the highest group by far which does not at all reflect broader reality. A hint of dishonesty here? Surely a site for tightasses would largely attract people not on especially high incomes?
Given the limited options (and this is apparently after they've been updated to include more), I imagine people aren't taking it particularly seriously. Also people were always going to follow the joke of everyone on here earning $150k+
how about a "how much super do you have?"
That depends on age, gender (women are more likely to take a break from paid work to look after kids), occupation, have they put money into super or bought a house …
$20k would be a heap for a young person in their 20s. Someone getting closer to retirement could easily be $1m+ if they've been tight with their $$$, lived like a scrooge and saved everything that they could. Most people will be somewhere in between.
yeah, google says 147 ish, last time i checked. im just curious to how true that is
Ozbargain tax brackets do it again!
Never lets me down.
Although the 170-190 slot is suspiciously popular…
Its just under those dreaded 45% tax bracket. they all tried to avoid paying 45% on the dollar…
Clearly you don't know how marginal tax rates work.
Clearly you don't!
@[Deactivated]: Putting exclamation mark doesn't change the fact that you don't understand how marginal tax rate system works. No one pays 45% on the dollar in tax.
@keejoonc: responding to my comment doesn't change the fact that you don't understand how marginal tax rate system works.
@[Deactivated]: how about you explain it to us all then since you are the "expert"?
Are you 7 by any chance?
@keejoonc: how about you just shut up and get a life.
Are you 6 by any chance?
@[Deactivated]: Typical response from people who don't know sh*t and likes to pretend like they actually know something.
As I said, no one pays 45% in tax in this country so get your facts straight.
@keejoonc: Typical response from jackshit keyboard warrior. As I said, shut up and get a life.
@[Deactivated]: How about you actually come back with some facts instead of just pointless insults? LOL
@keejoonc: How about I don't? LOL
@[Deactivated]: You don't have any so I didn't really expect it LOL
@keejoonc: I do, but I'm not sharing LOL
@[Deactivated]: You already shared though? Stop embarrassing yourself.
"Its just under those dreaded 45% tax bracket. they all tried to avoid paying 45% on the dollar…"
@keejoonc: So you admit that one was a fact. Stop embarrassing yourself. LOL.
now you want more facts LOL, not sharing LOL.
@[Deactivated]: It's a fact in your head obviously.
So you had a different idea about how marginal tax rate works but just decided to post this? You are laughable.
"Its just under those dreaded 45% tax bracket. they all tried to avoid paying 45% on the dollar…"
@keejoonc: now that fact is in your head. you are laughable. LOL
@[Deactivated]: I will leave this here for you to ponder. How silly you must be to think those who make over $180k would actually pay 45% of $81k of their income in tax.
"Its just under those dreaded 45% tax bracket. they all tried to avoid paying 45% on the dollar…"
@keejoonc: No you won't.
Including their spouse's income? :P
Pretty sure previous posts had quite a few votes for 190K+…
$30k per day on the stock market
This is for make not lost.. (;
hello rekttrading
Congrats on the grad job. Back in the day I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get into a grad program. 15+ years later I just work for myself, no politics, no asking permission to take leave etc, more work though (which I don't mind as it's for my own business) and a bit more stress!
Earn around $250k so you gotta add a few more options into the poll, there might be a few $500k + earners on here.
No option for Cennos - the highest paid contractors of the guvmint
Ozb is full of IT managers who are Wfh with no one to manage because their underlings are all Wfh too. >$150k would be pretty common with that sample.
You need to increase the slots lol. Its too low lmao
I made 8 digits last year. Don't ask me in what currency though.
Iranian Rial?
Lol I was once a multimillionaire in Iran. I had 15,000,000 rials in my pocket!
A brekkie was 100,000 though. That made a dent to my wallet :(
Vietnamese dong?
Not sure about Vietnamese dong. But I like dongs in general.
Wait does cashrewards count?
Just go look at the ABS data if you really want to know. Here your data will be mostly people selecting the highest option to piss you off. Lol.
ABS data is abit skewed I think because they usually just track taxable income, which doesn't tell the whole story.
Looking at the median income, how do they afford multi-million dollar houses?!?
Data for full-time, median wage is a better one to look at.
But on the second point, doesn't take a lot of income with how rates have been for the last few years (+decent deposit from saving or 'rents).
Alot of liar loans too I expect. I have no idea why everyone is so desperate to buy property.
@techlead: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-23/homeowners-interest-r…
Relevant article today, there's your answer… $1.5M home with a 150k deposit!
@techlead Most people that own $million+ houses didn't buy them when they cost $1m+
True, you may be right.
I'm one of those schmucks who paid over $1 mil for my house. Now I'm on the hunt for a multi mil house to knock down and rebuild.
@techlead: I paid $300k for one of my house that worth north $2.7m now near Epping…
Yeah I'm an old man lol…
@[Deactivated]: I'm not an old man, that's the main difference haha.
@techlead: Neither did I lol.
@[Deactivated]: If I bought a house for under a $1 million, I would have missed out on the multi-millions I have right now, so I'm pretty happy.
I could have bought a house in 2013. Very glad I didn't.
at least like $3/year, mabye a slight bit more. not much more though
To all those laughing at the way these polls skew towards the top end, you'd be surprised just how easily the top end of the range of salaries listed above is to achieve even in your twenties.
As for those saying "people earning that much wouldn't bother talking sh1t OzB", well some of those people have been sh!tposting on the internet before some OzB'ers here were so much as a twinkle in their fathers eye.
I myself am just a humble minimum wage worker who subsists off eneloop wrappers & kfc ofc and have voted accordingly :)
I earn about $45,000pa but they happily pay me $120,000pa
I'm happy with that, wasn't easy finding a job that pays me to spend time watching Netflix, shopping or surfing the web.
Where do I sign up?
You should be asking how much did you make from a grad job.
Here people with 20-25 years of experience are sitting and they will be earning 200k. So you are basically comparing apples, oranges, grapes and watermelons.
I have 20 years experience and nowhere near that salary as a teacher…
Last time I posted one of these I got roasted like crazy, good luck!
everyone is making over $170k……….. in discounts on Ozbargain
No one got rich paying RRP.
What is this? A poll for poor people??
Nice try ATO.
I’m sure most will be voting truthfully ;)
What grad job did you get?
Someone told me engineering (civil, not mining) grads are getting 100k. Does anyone know if this is true?
To be perfectly honest given what a junior coffee collector gets under the CFMEU I'd say it's fair for an actual University grad to get $100k.
More, these days it's probably closer to 120k
Doubt you'd find many non mining/FIFO grad roles paying $100k
And if they are, it's for a very select subset of highly desirable graduates
49.85k
Salary alone isn’t enough information. Somebody might earn $50k but fully own a house worth $2m.
Alternatively somebody might earn $200k but have no assets and a huge pile of debt.
When I started as a grad many years ago at an accounting firm I earned $52k.
When I started as a grad many years ago at an accounting firm I earned $52k.
When I was a grad, I was paid $26k pa and that was a lot better than most of the others in my grad cohort (which just goes to prove your point).
Top first post effort, OP.
Why are people always so critical about these polls? Yes there are a lot of variables and salary alone isn't enough information, yes it's missing wages under $50k and over $190k. But if you don't like it, don't participate on it. I'm all up for suggestions on how to make polls better, but complaining about it without participating and continue to say "$50k not listed" when someone already pointed it out is just bad form.
And if you're going to complain, then at least participate by providing the answer/expanding on the criteria. I was taught that if your option is not listed, then you make a post saying "Under $50k, so not listed". Or you might post "I ticked $50k, but I only work 2 days per week so full year salary is more xyz". Or "I get $50k but because I'm retired and own my 4m house".
About tree fiddy.
if a fraction of the answers here are true - would love some input from you on how you managed to jump from high 5 figures to 6 in your field?
My answer to this, I left my field.
I now own my field, so to speak.
Work hard, get recognised as one of the best in Australia (or even better, the world) in your field and a big dallop of luck (some of which you can make, some is chance).
Oh, and avoid female dominated industries/occupations - as a society, we mostly pay women less than men, regardless of what the work that they do is really 'worth' (eg teachers, nurses, …).
Basically that movement came with middle management responsibilities and being trusted to run my own work/make improvements as I see fit/identify issues etc.
In terms of actual moving, just keep applying up. Every job is a stepping stone to the next, so figure out the next one, watch the market, figure out what you need to do to be considered, the go crazy with applying when you are ready.
$40k salary as a graduate back in the day. I heard you can get 60k easy these days.
Love these posts pop up every once or twice a year. Average income on whirlpool is 200k + and probably 180k on ozbargain. Lmao what’s the point with these polls? Could vote anything :)
Need a > $200k
We probably have a lot of deal hungry high earners here haha
When I started my career as a teacher 20 years ago, it was $36K pa
Where’s the 300k+ option
$0
Congrats on the new job dude! Even though there will always be people who make more than you, you'll find that your biggest personal financial milestone will be finding out one day that you can pay bills immediately when they come in. No more weeks on 2 minute noodles so you can save up to pay off electricity or rent.
Fingers crossed that this latest job has gotten you there, or that you will get there soon.
Im from whirlpool i make 400k
what you whinge and get 400K.
Pretty much, 400k is povo on whirlpool anyway
Can only afford a camry
what are you doing on Ozb if you make >$200k
Mr Singh walks into a bank London and asks for the loan officer. He says he's going to Europe on business for two weeks and needs to borrow £5000. The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so Mr Singh hands over the keys to a new Rolls Royce, which costs quarter of a million pounds.
“The car is parked on the street in front of the bank,” says Mr Singh, “and I have all the necessary papers.”
The bank officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. After Mr Singh leaves, the loan officer, the bank's president and all their colleagues enjoy a good laugh at the man for using a £250,000 Rolls Royce as collateral against a £5,000 loan.
One of the employees drives the Rolls into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, Mr Singh returns, repays the £5000 and the interest, which comes to £15.41.
The loan officer says, "Sir, I must tell you, we’re all a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and discovered that you’re a multimillionaire. Why would you bother to borrow £5,000?"
The man replies, "Where else in London can I park my car for two weeks for only £15.41?"
So how much do you earn OP?
People have given their answers, now you should too.
does how much you save by using ozbargain count?
(secretly hoping my status be moved to mod level :) )
Plenty of 500K plus earners here…. myself included. Most of my colleagues are also on this board.
People who make good salaries find every way possible go make their salaries go a long way because most also have financial commitments and were raised on bargains and savings.
Intrigued as to what you and your colleagues do for work?
By conservative estimates.
I would have corrected the post to start the lowest income at 300k.
