PS: These are the VAVA VA-UC016

Which has extremely poor ratings on Amazon: see here and here (for the second link, almost all the positive reviews are from several years ago, by people who were sent the device as a freebie).

I don't understand why people, after spending a large chunk of money on a good computer and monitor, would then rush to snap up a sketchy no-name USB hub.

      • It looks like this is from the same parent company as TaoTronics. Not exactly no name.

Apart from the slightly over-promised in their advertising I have no complaint with the actual products. (I owned a Bluetooth dongle and a pair of TWS.)

Any reccomendations on value for money products that are worth the effort? I’ve got a couple of devices that would benefit from a good hub, but I’d obviously prefer not to overpay.

  • all have been claimed :(

  • says fully claimed and to join the waitlist

How do you join the waitlist?

    Waitlist is full.

  • good deal, but waitlist is full

    4K@30hz

Otherwise known as not being 4k compatible. Just no good for use as a computer screen.

    • +1

It says it does 60hz on lower res screens, but I agree with you, this is not the device you want to be driving a screen through unless it's a last resort

    • +1

It has an old chipset (DP 1.2 based) so it is suitable for:

      • 2016, 2017 laptops (though some 2018, 2019 laptops might also be limited due to Intel discrete graphics).
      • Android phones with USB-C/alt-mode (and you want USB 3.0 ports). Zero Android phone with DP 1.4 support at the moment.
      • iPad Mini 6th gen, iPad Air 4th gen (coz. Apple didn't put in DP 1.4 support intentionally)
      • (at this price) cheaper than buying a USB-C hub without display

The comment further down on poor quality control is a concern (i.e. only lasted 2 days).

These are shocking. I had one it lasted 2 days.

  • Price is $29.99

  • got one after joining the waitlist. thanks OP.

  • Darn, that was a good deal, missed it.

  • Damn this is one of those OzB days where you hit F5 an hour late

  • I have the Vava one. Working fine but no 4K so I just have it for the extra USB A ports. Paid heaps more for it last year.

  • If you don't need the extra ports this one is usually around $15. I got it for $10 from a previous deal and it works fine:

  • (For those who are lucky to get one)

    How is the qualify?
    • Video Qualify & Refresh Rate
    • Speed of the Ethernet
    • Speed of the Card Reader
    • PD (Powerful or Not)?

    Non-Detachable-Cable
    • Lenght (Too Short or Not too Short)?
    • (Hard to Bend / Ok to Bend)?

    • Looks durable?

Want to hear the review from you. Thanks.
