2 Essential Services for Free with a 4-Year Volkswagen 4plus Care Plan for 4-15 Year Old Volkswagen Vehicles Only @ Volkswagen

950

I’m compelled to share this VW 4Plus care plan deal.
It was shared by rock-bottom back in Feb 2022 (link below) but now it becomes available again.

Yesterday I got my mk17 golf serviced at local dealer (72mth/90k), used one of 4 years care plan (care plus this time) and paid nothing. The service cgarge was meant to be $517.
I had paid the 4 year care plan at $820 so my car will be covered with another 3 years service with no additional cost.
I highly recommend VW owners to get this if the purchasing criteria meets.

Keep in mind this only includes limited replacement of items: oil, oil filter, air filter and the brake fluid and pollen filter on the ‘plus’ service. You’ll still need to pay out of pocket for other serviceable items like DSG, haldex and spark plugs.

    • +1

But they don't specify "engine oil" just "oil", so I think we've got a case at small claims to make them cover the lot 😅

  • +2

Don't suppose this covers the water pump.

    • Nope. See Mega’s exclusion list below.

    • My Golf with 38k on the odo has just developed a coolant leak. Culprit looks to be the infamous water pump/thermostat housing. Will find out for sure in a week when the dealer has a look.

      • +1

It is disappointing they haven't been able to fix this issue yet, after years and years. Definitely something you need to keep a bit of an eye on if you own a golf.

        • They have started a class action lawsuit in America over this.

        • There was a change to the water pump in 2021 that might fix it. Ultimately we don’t know yet.

Regardless with all VWs and Skodas sold in the last 4 years having a 5 year warranty it’s guaranteed your first water pump replacement will be free.

          • @tp0: Unfortunately mine was a demo and only had 2 year warranty so unless VW agree to a good will repair I am up for some expense!

  • I'm a bit confused, does it include 4 years of servicing? What are the essential service and essential service plus?
They make it confusing, why not just say you have 4 years of servicing cover?

    • Wondering that too. When do we do essential and when do we do essential plus?

Assuming nothing broken and needs fixing, does this basically covers regular service for 4 years or 60,000 kms whichever comes first?

    • +2

Yeah makes me suss about extras they'll slug you for, on top of what the Care Plan covers. T&C says it covers:
Oil and filter replacement, Volkswagen’s safety and diagnostic check, reset of service interval display, logbook stamp, pollen filter replacement, and brake fluid replacement.

      But not these:
Tyre rotation and balancing and wheel alignment; Normal wear and tear consumable items requiring replacement and parts requiring additional maintenance (including but not limited to clutch linings, brake discs and pads, brake linings, wiper blades, globes of all types (including Bi Xeon and LED), fuses, trims, diesel particulate filters, catalytic converters, all belts, water pumps, tyres, satellite navigation update disks and all other parts of your vehicle that have been subject to normal wear and tear); Additional fluids and additives not specified in the Service Schedule; Adjustments not specified in the Service Schedule; Service, fitment or maintenance of any accessories, including Volkswagen accessories.

So what's the likely out of pocket expense, even with a Care Plan?

Mate has a 7 year old Golf. The amount of times he's had issues with it is just outrageous

  • Just tried my 2018 Skoda Octavia, $1400 but comes with extended warranty to 7 years, 4 logbook services and roadside assist for the 7 years.

Timing belt/chain or alarm system replacement is in the exclusion list

    BUYER BEWARE

Essential Service & Essential Service plus does not equal standard service & major service respectively. I found out the hard way.

I thought it was enough to cover all the services for a 4 year period. I bought this a year ago for a 2011 Jetta. Came up for major service at the start of this year.

Had to pay the difference between essential plus service and major service.

It's not as good as it seems. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

    • +2

My major service at 60k cost close to $2k with some extras e.g. battery and slow leak in a tyre (which they somehow failed to fix).

I paid about $1000 for this package and I'd be happy if it brings down the bill shock.

      • +1

Looks like it will bring down the bill shock on that service by about $600, so still a $1400 service.

  • +1

Not mentioned above is having to wait 2-3 months to get a booking spot at dealerships.
Would much rather use a vw specialist.

    • +1

just booked at the dealership for next week

    • +2

Its usually a month wait if you want a loan car, just book in advance if you want a loan or its about a week or 2 wait and some dealers drop/pick you up with an uber free of charge

      • Depends where you live … 2 month wait minimum at many dealerships in Brissy - which is pretty annoying given how frequently I've had to return a GTI for engine oil + gear box oil leaks.

  • +1

    $907 for my 2010.5 R36

Not bad I suppose - does anyone know if they do this for modified vehicles?

Regardless, still cheaper to do it yourself.

  • So you're essentially paying $900 upfront, for 4 engine oil and oil filter changes, and 2 pollen filter and brake fluid changes. No bargain here.

    • +1

I don't see a bargain either. Maybe I'm missing something. These are jobs that take 2 hours or less to DIY for a beginner.

      • Only a bargain for those who prefer dealer service. DIY is of course considerably cheaper - there's no labour charge and non-genuine spares cost way less.

I just did my first Essentials Service under the 4Plus Care Plan - at no charge. If I had paid for a bare bones 90K service it would have been ~$440 (for my Volkswagen up!). My dealer recorded the Essentials Service at ~$240 - likely for internal accounting purposes with VW Australia. As a long-term customer I note that retail labour and parts prices are somewhat higher.

  • I have the VW plus plan and it was ok for last year's service but now my fuel pump has failed on my 6yr old Touareg (owned since new) and I've been quoted $7000 for the repair!
$3000 for the pump and $4000 for 20hrs labour. When I insisted on speaking to someone at VW I was told to google the customer service number. I tried 4 times to get through with at least 40mins on hold then tried emailing with no reply. When I called the service manager back he said there is no alternative number?!

If I sold my car 6mths ago I would have recommended VW but after this experience all I can say is stay away!!

    • i have a 2015 Golf.
Year ago and well out of warranty but very low km's had the water pump leak. Local mechanic spotted it and suggested the following.

Paid for VW to have a look (pressure test) and came back with a few thousand in pump replacement.

Received an email survey and complained. That went to head office and they came back with about $500 replacement and I was ok with that.

Try complaining to their head office as the water pump is a known fault on VWs.

Edit: latest service on mine, the local mechanic said the water hoses are plastic crap and to again take it to VW to check (hoses looking dodgy) as it's too hard for him to get them! I'll take the risk, wait and take it to VW for the next service to check the hoses.

The problem with taking it to local mechanics is they can't or won't do some repairs.

      • I've tried emailing them but they are not contactable! If I had a spare couple of hours I would take it further.

      • Had the same issue on our 2015 Jetta @90k kms. Dealer and VWA offered 25% goodwill discount costing me ~$900. The water pump itself isn't expensive, though they needed to hoist engine out to change the water pump.

How VW placed their poor quality water pump at the back of engine is beyond me. It's just a stupid, cash grabbing design by VW for no good reason.

i owned a tiguan. it was nice car to drive except it always something broken.
i wish koreans make asian tiguan.
now got boring rav4. because nothing breaks…..

  • 2 engine rebuilds in 5 years for a VW Polo.. was covered under warranty after claiming acl. But tried to charge me $1500+ and then even tried to charge the Labour costs. Terrible customer service and had similar experiences trying to contact customer support and the email responses.

Traded it in for a Suburu. No major issues so far and everything else covered under warranty.

  • Would they do a blue slip for a non registered golf off pickles.. I'm happy with free.

  • +3

I'll save you all a little trouble

    • Avoid anything with the 1.4 twin charge engine.(09-14 Polo GTI, 09-13 Golf 118TSI, 07-09 Golf GT Sport and some Jettas but who even buys Jettas anyway)
    • 7 speed DSGs fail more commonly than the 6 speed. Part of this is gearbox design, part is driving style. You can adapt your driving style to increase the chances of your gearbox surviving. Have a google if you're interested.
    • Don't buy a modern diesel and just potter around town in it (advice extends to other brands also). If you never drive on a freeway or long country road, don't buy a diesel
    • If you have an older car out of warranty or not interested in googling the intricacies of your model, find a locally recommended specialist. Almost all cars regardless of model will have 2-3 common failure points. A specialist will know the well trodden path to repair cost effectively and can probably give you some tips to identify if you have those issues.
    • I've got a 2014 MK7 Golf R with the 6 speed DSG and haven't had any issues, but I was under the impression the newer 7 speed was even more reliable and tough?

That seems to be the general vibe I get on forums, so I'm surprised to see you say the 6 speed is more reliable. Though it's good for me 😅

      • They’re referring to the 7 speed dry clutch DQ200. They probably don’t realise there’s now a 7 speed wet clutch DQ381 used in small performance vehicles.

It’s also bad advice because there’s another 7 speed wet clutch that’s been in the Tiguan for over a decade (DQ500) that’s also quite reliable.

        • Correct, talking about the dry clutch transmissions, forgot they had wet 7's these days

    • Cheers for this. I have a 2015 M7 TDI 2.0. 60-40 town vs motorway. 6 speed. Coming up for timing belt ($1,200), dsg oil ($500), and new tyres ($600). Only bought it in Oct 2021.
      Keep or sell?

      • With the split of driving, you will keep the dpf clean and the diesel happy. I'm sure you could find a specialist to do the work cheaper than the above (although use the genuine part timing belt)

  • +1

was going to get a tiguan but was gatekeep by the sales person at the dealership… so i guess blessing in disguise from some of the comments here.

  • +1

I've had two VW Golfs …. a Mk5 for three years and my current Mk7 GTI and both have had zero issues.

    Both manuals though.

    • Manual GTIs are the most reliable things they make. I've got a 14 year old one in the driveway and hasn't ever been touched mechanically beyond oil and fluid changes (and timing belt/water pump at the prescribed interval).

Mind you I've also got a 32 year old one in my shed that was the most unreliable piece of shit in its earlier days based on the service history haha. I give it a hiding every time i drive it and haven't had an issue in 7 years

  • My car is 12 years old but it comes up with message “Your vehicle doesn't have a valid purchase date.”

  • +2

Still got my dads 1975 Kombi automatic ( microbus) going strong no rust runs a treat, even remember when I was 8yrs old when we picked it up from vw dealer in 1975 brand new $5600 good old days

  • So if your DSG service is due, they’ll charge you additional on top?

    • yes

      • Farq dat

        • What options do you have? They quoted me $550 for my DSG oil change next year.

          • @lordra: An independent VW workshop would be about half that price

            • @antik: Ooo amazing!
I'm in Sydney. Any recommendations? How would I recognise am independent VW workshop? Is there a list of these places somewhere? Sorry, I'm new to VW. TIA!
I'll also get a quote for my belt, that they want $1,200 for.

              • @lordra: I just did a quick Google search. Wolfsburg Motors, Platinum Automotive, PQ Automotive and BWA Auto all have good reviews. They’re all independent VW specialist that will do logbook servicing with genuine OEM parts which won’t void any factory warranties.

  • Anyone else START STOP button not responding? Lol. Mine now needs to be pushed very hard or multiple times.

Would this deal cover that? Doubt it.

    Tiguan 132TSI 2017.

    • If you could. Maybe try searching up for a wrecker that has a Tiguan and buy the trim piece with the start stop button. It will be much cheaper than the stealership
Or maybe take it off and clean the contacts underneath it

    • Interested in a plug n play harness that automatically disables Start/Stop when the car is started so you don’t need to press the button?

      • Get OBD Eleven, I got it and there is a setting that disables auto start stop in traffic permanently, done tens of thousands of kms since and its perfect. Dont need to keep it plugged in, its very simple, just codes to the cars systems

        • It doesn’t work on all cars, and you get an error on dash saying “Start/Stop not available”

          • @antik: yeah of course. you can't shove this into a Toyota and expect to remove it. it only works on VW group cars which include, Audi, Skoda and all those brands owned by Volkswagen, however it works perfectly on my vw golf without any dash errors.

            • @jayboi: I’m talking about VAG vehicles. Unplugging voltage sensor, or editing the voltage parameters in VCDS/OBD11 leaves a symbol on the dash showing that Start/Stop is not available, which will show as an error if you scan your vehicle. When you use a Start/Stop module, Start/Stop defaults to the Off position every time you start the car. You’re not disabling the system, so you don’t get any symbols or errors on the dash.
              https://youtu.be/ZcBfEQ8DaKg

              • @antik: it does not show as an error code. ive scanned my car after I used it. it just has a tiny symbol with an a crossed off and nothing really apart from that, it isnt an error, it just lets you know that start stop is off
EDIT: that vid linked that has the start stop harness for eliminating the issue has can be found for much cheaper on Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002252098223.html about ~$20 delivered. Either way down to personal preference. it only shows the tiny symbol in the top right when you are stopped and doesnt really come in the way

                • @jayboi: That’s the error message that Stop/Start is not available. It could be not available because the system is faulty, or it could be because parameters have been changed within adaptation.

If Start/Stop is functioning correctly, that light on dash is not there even if Start/Stop is disabled with the button

                  • @antik: Well, if does not hinder the performance of the car at all. If anything it’s better for the starter since it isn’t shutting the engine on and off every time you stop. The symbol came there quite often even before I programmed it if I had the air con on or some other reason. It’s not an error code that’s stored in the system. I’ve driven 15,000 kms since programming it and my car is running driving like a dream with 0 errors

                    • @jayboi: I'm not sure that it can be coded out in new vehicles, I had to get the harness for my mk 7.5 golf but used my OBDEleven to code out the stop/start from my 2013 A5.

                      • @maybeamacy: Yeah, I’ve heard that they dont work on some mk7.5, I’m presuming it’s the later build dates where they managed to patch this workaround. But yeah, if you only want to remove the start stop function then you’re just better off getting a harness.

  • This service package is only suitable for low mileage users and is little more than an oil and filter change, from the service manager's mouth, as I was interested but then decided against it. If you don't do the major services you will still encounter problems down the line. Not a bargain, IMO!

  • nice im must overdue for a service atm to

  • Thanks OP, just purchased 4 years ($911) for my Mk7 GTI 👍
