1 Month Free nbn on All Plans (Save up to $144, New Customers Only) @ Origin Broadband

240

Was shopping around for nbn deals and found this, looks similar to this back in March but only one month instead of two. Origin nbn is white-label Aussie BB, so hopefully not too bad.

Found them excellent last deal, time to go back

    • They were able to diagnose a problem with my modem that wasn't obvious at first (modem was actually dying, but didn't appear to be), and a random modem they didn't supply me at that. Not sure if it was an AussieBB employee or Origin, either way it was very good.

Moved to MyRepublic after them because they're the cheapest. Quickly learned why they're the cheapest. A shame that Origin doesn't really seem to have figured out the whole pricing thing though.

      • I had exceptionally good tech support with them as well. Reached a tech within 15mins waiting, the tech was knowledgeable and didn't just follow a script. When they realised I had decent networking skills they ramped up their "techniness" as well and went real deep into troubleshooting.

Just keep in mind they use CGNAT, so plex hosting etc won’t work… I couldn’t get ipv6 to work properly either…

    • I managed to get ipv6 to work with Origin. But honestly I still don't feel confident trying to configure ipv6 on my router….

    • Dang was about to make the jump but worried this will screw up gaming online. Back to the drawing board!

  • do you need to be an origin energy customer to apply?

    • I don't think you need to be an energy customer, no

    • No

  • Origin has referral code? Can anyone show me how to find the code? I’m existing customer

    • Only for energy & gas?

      • I’m using origin electricity. Any idea how to get the code?

        • No idea. When I click the random link above, it leads me to the energy & gas page, not NBN.

    • Unfortunately that $100 referral seems to have ended for referrers.

The benefit for referee's says 'you can still sign up using the referral until 1 April 2022' and get the bonus…. But I used one of the above codes on like may 5 and still got $100 credited toward my account instantly.
It may still be active. YMMV.

But as far as I've researched no other active public/retail Origin referrals are currently running.

  • Wow, beat me to it! I just saw this today too. I was going to post it tomorrow

Anyone know if you can take advantage of this if you got the other free months earlier in the year?

    • I'd like to know this as as well.

  • So leave after a month or 2?

    white-label Aussie BB

Ok so what on earth is this supposed to mean?
    I’m guessing BB = broadband?
God these lazy acronyms are getting out of hand.

    • White label is a made up term by Aussie, and it just means they resell Aussie Broadband. Their emails are identical, but with Aussie replaced with Origin. Your IP will be from Aussie.

Bear in mind you cannot opt out of CG-NAT with them, which is the reason I’ve just left.

    • Yep, this just bit me in the ass..
I read earlier on the Whirlpool forums that it was possible but have now seen that they have since stopped it.
Luckily for me, they didn't kick my AussieBB service so I just cancelled it. and plugged back into port 1 on the NTD..

  • Given we utilized the previous 2 months offer and now with another provider…when we switch back to Origin as part of this deal…are we considered as new customer? Or is there some grace period to be considered as new customer?

    • I'd imagine it'll be minimum of 6 months before you are considered a new customer if you previously were with them (that's how ABB is too)

      • yes. doesn't seem to mention it somewhere clearly unless i am not looking at right place

        • +1

I've read that with many ISP's because it's essentially pre-pay month to month there aren't credit checks so you can signup with different details (not checked) & are a 'new customer'

  • Signed up tonight and transfer was complete in 2 hours. Nice

    • That fast? Do you need to cancel with your current provider?

      • I didn't (Telstra) but I am waiting for them to ask for their modem back

        • did you call telstra to cancel before move or did telstra say your plan has been cancelled in your account after you moved? (I'm trying to avoid over-charged from previous provider in this case)

          • +1

@s12321: Following the transfer, I got an automatic email from Telstra acknowledging the transfer titled "We're sorry to see you go"

            • @outlander: Thanks @outlander i hope they wont charge the huawei router, if they do not call you to return it :)

As others have mentioned you cannot opt out of CG-NAT so not good for gamers.

Otherwise the service is fast and reliable being resold aussie bb. My connection was rock solid except for 1 maintenance period at 3am..

I had the GB plan for 4 months, left due to cost. It's very expensive.

Churn into origin took almost a day in my experience.. leaving me without any connection for that period. Initiated from origin not me. So this was bad.

You also need to call to terminate the account if you churn out..

  • So you can churn to Origin and get 1 month free and churn to another RSP afterwards? So essentially one month free internet?

  • +1

i churned out last month and didnt give them any notice . i better check if they are still chargeing me. i would like to know how long i have to wait for sign up as a new customer again too?

  • I was with Aussie BB before Apr, will this still work?
And can I churn to another ISP around 25 days later and not have to pay Origin for the 2nd month?

    • +1

I doubt they will let you be a returning customer that quickly but until someone tries & confirms or asks Origin we won't know
In terms of churning after 25 days if it's like the last time then yes you won't get charged for month 2, which you would assume regardless

      • Thank you. Yes so they told me they charge month by month.

  • Good deal. I've got this message

Don’t disconnect your current internet service until you’re sure that your Origin service is connected and working properly.

Will i be charged if i disconnect current NBN provider and join them?

  • When I am trying to sign up over the phone, they are saying that I need to have at least one service with them gas or electricity.

Trying so sign up online myself, it shows the massage: Oh no, something’s gone wrong. Try calling us on 1300 980 711 or come back later.

    • Weird I just signed up this morning on call with them…

    • I'm getting same message why does this happen for certain addresses, there is an existing nbn connection

  • Terrible company, after switch to them I lose my internet for 5 days. When I am with superloop everything was fine.
