These are great TV speaker upgrades, if yours has a headphone jack or RCA out.

    • I'll have to think about it. I really don't need these as I don't use the TV often and when I do it's usually with headphones. That said, the speakers I have attached are really awful. Maybe if the price is still going during the cashback period I'll bite.

    • These can be plugged into headphones jack like headphones?

      • +1

Yep that's how I use them. Means the sound can be controlled via the TV remote too (just crank up the hardware volume knob to max)

        • +3

You ideally want them both (tv and speakers) below 3/4; 50% each is even better, if thats loud enough.

Maxing out the gain on an amp amplifes everything, including noise and emf.

If the TV. Isnt above 50%, and the speakers are, find a happy medium.

          • @MasterScythe: Good tip, thanks! I've just gone and turned down the dial and moved the TV above 25.

Let's see if the rest of the house will keep it that way…

        • Thought it would be more difficult connecting them, if only I knew, maybe would have jumped on it! Could have connected to headphone jack on pc!

  • I've done some (little) research for entry level speakers for a vinyl player. Would these be good or are there any with Bluetooth which you recommend?

    • +1

Vinyl + Bluetooth is a pointless pairing, tbh. But having speakers with Bluetooth connectivity is awesome for the other devices you'll play music from.

My cost effective compromise was to add a Amazon Echo Dot to my old non-BT stereo, and now I get the best of both worlds; analogue output when playing records, BT connectivity for when playing from my phone.

      • Apologies, I meant Bluetooth connectivity for my phone not for the Vinyl player

    • +2

Entry level? As in the cheapest option available?

      • Not necessarily, but I don't want to spend $600 on speakers. Maybe up to $300-400

        • These would be entry level if you were looking at entering the cheap side of speakers. If you are looking at entry level speakers, as in getting speakers to really listen to, even critically, then these are not entry level, these are just cheap speakers.

I've bought a pair of R1280DBs before and for the price, they are great. These are supposed to be an improvement, from what I've read, the tweeters are better. I think I paid about $120 for the 1280's, now these are $89 and if you buy this between 12-2 and activated Cashrewards (12% cashback), you'll get them at $78.32. At that price, it is simply unbeatable IMHO. I'd use it either as computer speakers (and will beat most logitech stuff) or as TV speaker output.

  • Great price - wish it was the bluetooth version though - considering phones etc have no 3.5mm jacks anymore

    • Just have an adaptor on the end though, super easy.

      • do these work without compromising audio quality?

        • +1

Some actually improve it, with built in DACs.

    • Having the BT version is very convenient since there is a remote to switch the mode between phone and 3.5mm on the fly.

  • Hey can anyone tell me how this would connect to a pc or if it works for one?

    • See first post.

Nearly every PC or laptop has a 3.5mm mic or audio-in socket (like the headphones plug on a phone… before manufacturer brains turned to mush and they removed it)… https://www.jaycar.com.au/3-5mm-stereo-plug-to-2-x-rca-plugs…

Or… fewer desktop PCs come with, or can be fitted with, a soundcard that has external RCA sockets (the red/white stereo audio sockets on the back of, or behind a push-in/out panel, on a TV). https://www.jaycar.com.au/2-x-rca-plugs-to-2-x-rca-plugs-aud…

Via physical wires in other words.

    • Via 3.5mm audio jack usually; unless you have a fancy external DAC and use RCA.

  • +1

is this better than 1280 ?

  • These or a soundbar?

    • +1

If you're fine with stereo, and staying within the same price range? These; by many magnitudes.

      • I mean most soundbars can’t do physical stereo, so these are a jump up

  • Looking at the documentation and photos of the back of this speaker, it doesn't seem to have a subwoofer output? Or am I missing something.

    • +1

I believe the models with s on the end have the subwoofer output.

  • +1

Thanks. I’ve been trying to decide on some speakers for my PC.
As I’m speakerless, this will fill the gap for now.
Would have loved Bluetooth but we’ll see how it goes.

  • Might be out of stock now?

    • yep, back to full price now

  • +2

Got the second last one :P

  • What's considered the best value edifier speaker?

  • +4

I got these in the last deal to replace some Edifier T1000s and they are sooo much better, albeit the BT version -which I don't even use.

I use them as PC speakers and they're pretty loud and bass-y enough for me sitting on my desk like 1m away.

I also tried them in my bedroom hooked up to a TV (via headphones port on TV to RCA cable) and still sound way better than built in.

    Esp for this price point!

  • +3

I have a few Edifiers in the house, all really versatile depending on your needs. They are solid and great performers for the price.
    1380DB (same version with Bluetooth)
Great overall for TV and music, voices are very clear and bass is very complementary. The 1380 is definitely well suited for TV and music.

    1580MB
Use this on the PC and it has a really nice sound stage, versatile for all purposes such as gaming, karaoke etc (I paid $69)

    1855DB
Main unit for the TV, clear big sound and strong bass but more expensive (I paid around $150)

Great value and excellent bookshelf speakers.

    • +1

I got the s2000s for cheap used and they were so good I sold my Klipsch the fives and got the s3000pro, they are incredible!!!! Entirely replaced my soundbar and studio speakers.

Now to get a set of edifiers for the computer!
