    Seems quite dodgy.

"Upon checking with the airline, we were unable to book your seat for the chosen price. To book the seat the price is now ‪AU$ 98.98‬ higher than previously." Checked multiple
dates and its adding the extra.

Also, baggage, meals, entertainment is extra, it's not included as stated.

    • -2

But you don’t book with ‘the airline’ you book with a 3rd party provider such as mytrip to get the cheaper price.

      • I did, that is the message mytrip.com gave, also states not included.

        • +1

If you pay with MasterCard with mytrip you get the cheaper price. Click on the left book button.

But, yes, luggage seems not to be included.

3.7K with baggage & food for my family of 4.

4.7k with Singapore airlines for the same

So basically 1k cheaper than a full service airline, not bad

    • +19

Interesting, I fall in the other side. $250 per passenger is absolutely worth going with the full service, especially for 20+ hours of flying

      • +3

I mean I absolutely would choose Singapore too! just trying to show the Ozbargainer what the difference is =)

        • +2

I'm flying to Europe with Singapore in 1 month, with an 18 month old toddler.

          Terrified.

          • @Gobbo14: Nice - the weather will be great!

Haha we had friends do Europe with their 1.5 year old in April, sounded challenging!

          • +2

@Gobbo14: I did it with an 18 month old…he refused to sleep until about 5 hours after Singapore. We had the bulkhead/cot but he was a bit too big and also wasnt too happy sitting still. We were probably the passengers that everyone else hates.

But! We survived. Take an ipad and all the other distracting devices you have.

Not sure what your plans are in Europe but be prepared for shorter and slower days and nap times etc. Some time in parks to just run around. Sometimes, if the kid is having hard time, you have to separate if you are travelling with your partner eg one of you goes into the church and has a look while the other cares for the kid outside, then swap. Its all doable, just be flexible and dont have a too packed schedule.

Having a bub gets you a lot of brownie points in some countries (we were in Italy, turn up with a baby and you are fussed over in restaurants and hotels) so its not all bad

Take a light weight stroller (or buy one when you arrive - but having one is good, I walked miles around Singapore airport during the stop over). Most airlines will let you take it on as hand luggage.

            Good luck

            • @dtc: I really appreciate the tips!

We'll definitely get a portable pram, and our boy is super active so we fully expect him to just run around in parks.

Fortunately we're in Italy first, and then heading to France.

We also have a bulkhead/cot - in worried it will be a little small for him to sleep in but we'll see. He's not a huge kid.

One question I do have though - sleeping arrangements in hotel rooms. In some places (Venice) we're all staying in a single room. How did you find that? I'm not sure what me and my partner would do from 8pm.onwards after the boy has gone to bed. Maybe go to a restaurant 100 metres away and watch him on a baby monitor perhaps?

              • @Gobbo14: Not to sound insensitive, but what motivated you to go to Europe with a baby? A wedding or special event, perhaps? That I could understand.

It all just sounds extremely compromised

                • @endolphin: Travelling with an 18 month old is easier, strangely enough, than with a 3 or 4 year old (and cheaper). For a start you can strap an 18 month old in a pram and keep them under control and also not exhausted after an hour.

If you dont travel when they are 18 months, chances are you wont travel until they are 6 or 7 - and if you are going to somewhere like Europe where a lot of walking around is involved, probably you want them to be even a bit older. Of course, maybe not travelling for 7 years (or longer if you have more children) is fine for some; but other people still want to travel.

The only other option (which I did as well) is to have the parents travel separately on their own holidays.

Its a compromise against the trip where you are up at 7am, go sight seeing for 15 hours straight and then have dinner and hit the bars. Its not a compromise from going to work, catching the bus home and slothing in front of TV. Travelling with kids has compromises vs no kids; but you are still travelling. Which is better than not travelling.

              • @Gobbo14: Sleeping - we had a portable fold up cot (one of those super compact ones that you set up as a tent) and put that on the floor.

In terms of eating, we just ate early and went to bed early and got up a bit earlier. Sometimes we had 'meal in room', bought bread and bits and pieces from a deli and made up dinner; we would have lunch as the main meal. If your kid is a good sleeper in the pram you can take him out but, yes, you wont be doing much at night. Read a book (take some of those clip on book lights), watch something on the ipad/laptop.

                • @dtc: Awesome, thanks.

We got a similar thing. It's called the joovy gloo.

I think we'll need to bring some headphones for watching shows in bed while the baby is sleeping in the same room 🤣

                  Books too!

                  • @Gobbo14: A kindle is worthwhile (or kobo).

      • $250 per passenger is absolutely worth going with the full service, especially for 20+ hours of flying

Depends on what you are getting for $250 doesn't it?

If 'full service' means a $15 meal and $30 worth of baggage then no.

The last time I flew Scoot I upgraded to the 'yellow seats' for $15 which had extra pitch, so was the equivalent of premium economy. That beats any 'full service' economy seat IMO.

        • Given the flights are on 787 dreamliners.. I agree completely!

        • +1

'full service' means I can keep asking for drinks the whole way and on a 12+hour flight that's important for me these days.

        • This is true.. some people aren't very demanding.

I'll be travelling with a toddler so… The best service possible

          • +1

@Gobbo14: I did the Singapore to JFK flight… definitely premium economy minimum for that.

        • Just need $12.50 hour benefit

So that can be food, legroom, comfort, flight not cancelled etc

  • Great price but on the cost of nothing other than a seat to sit on + 20 hours of transit in Singapore which need to be aware of.
Would work for anyone being on a tight budget for sure.
    Thanks for posting.

    • +1

nothing other than a seat to sit on

What else is there? A meal and a screen? Scoot meals are about $15 and I always bring my own books and entertainment. I don't get what people think they are getting with 'full service' that is worth paying $hundreds more for?

  • +3

I recently flew with them from MEL to BER without any add ons. Flight times were pretty good, only about an hour stop over in SIN. Had dinner before my Melbourne flight and filled up a water bottle at the airport after security.
It is a low cost carrier and seats aren't very comfy.
Carry on allowance is up to 10kg.

I would fly with them again if the price was right. I paid $629 return.

    • How’d you manage in Europe without an checked baggage? Are you an ultra light packer? Did you buy/have stuff in Europe? Were you on there for a few days?

      • +3

Have regularly flown since 2010 with only carry on for up to 3 months (including UK).
Am no longer young, just like the freedom & flexibility of travel light.

Easier in warmer weather. So Greece would be great.

Buy essentials there, leave some old clothes behind on return & bring clothes bought there back as souvenirs.

Have written about it in other Deals over years.

        • I’m heading to NZ in Aug/Sept for 2 weeks and it’ll likely be cold so not the best time to attempt it. I might do a trial pack out of curiosity but with headphones, iPad, Kobo, chargers, water bottle. I have too many comforts that I’m not sure I’d be willing to give up.

          • @sween64: Take thermals - easily hidden under normal clothes. (I'm wearing them today to the shops!)

They pack light, small, & dry quickly (overnight).

I travel with 1 set just in case, 2 sets for cold as can double up. Never needed 3 sets, even hiking for 12d in snow in mountains in Tas. Nice & warm.

Wear fleeces, jacket, boots, bulky heavy items on board. Then remove to get comfie for flight. Phone, power bank, waterbottle, etc goes in jacket pockets! Laptop etc goes in padded bag with rest of clothes, or simply carried.

I always take an anti-bacterial treated face washer (from Kathmandu sale) to dry myself, rather than bulky towel. Ring out the water - works great & dries very quick. A wet towel is a problem when travelling. Handy to carry to wash face in hot weather, etc.

Bought thermal long top & bottom from Karhmandu in November for $4.50 with $20 voucher!

Also bought $130 Merino LS tops for $15 with $20 voucher then. Feel & look great!
Both are on Clearance now, but dearer.

Just choose what you are comfortable with.
            Have fun.

            • @INFIDEL: Thanks.

              Also,

It's a tough galaxy. If you want to survive, you've gotta know…where your towel is.

              • +1

@sween64: Always appreciate a Douglas Adams line. Interviewed him long ago.

                • @INFIDEL: What? When? How? Can I consume your interview?

                  • +2

@sween64: Convinced his publicist my interview would be unlike any other on his publicity tour for "The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul". Radio stations wanted interviews, but seems only ABC TV (7.30) & I got interviews in Brisbane.

Was staff trainer for my Uni on Macs (DNA's favourite), Uni's consultant in use of computers (in research etc), & lectured there in writing on computers.
Not bad without a degree - as a 3rd year Uni part-time student with my own student newspaper.

So a major coup for me. My particular interest was in the writing process, as assisted authors & ran play & creativity workshops.

Major condition was NO questions about "Hitchhiker" series! Met him at his Hotel. Was surprised he was such a big man - tall! Took the limo to the ABC & had a good interview. His fans were jealous seeing me get out of his limo & shaking hands. Another normal day back then. Very memorable!

How’d you manage in Europe without an checked baggage?

I've been a few times, all 4 -5 week trips with 7kg carry-on only. If you are going in summer, you only need 3 x shorts, 5 x undies, t-shirts, and socks, and toiletries. 7kg is easy, and makes transit through local flights and trains a breeze.

        • +1

Love arriving & not waiting for baggage!
Up to 4wks is easiest. But have done months in UK.

Knowing what to take (like you suggest) takes experience. My first trip to UK with the 30kg that airline included in fare - was an agony! 3 months - lugging it around. Many things were never used! Never again!

    • -1

Did you have to pay for any PCR testing?

      • Do your own research

    • If I was 21 and single again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

But after all my years travelling, I just couldn't do it again (I have a family now!)

Well done though for doing it! Such a cheap price for Australia to Europe!

  • Any deals to Europe leaving August and returning September?

  • What are the chances of extending the stay to athens for the same price?

  • You have to stay a month in Greece to get this return flight deal?

  • Don't ever book via mytrip. Worst experience. Because of them I'm never gonna use travel agency again.

  • Can we mark this deal expired. All the ones I've tested from Perth seem to be $800-1000.
