That's S21 5G, not S21 FE 5G, the latter seems to be $799 at JB

      • FE is the little sibling of S21.

        • +1

Fe is bigger sibling - 0.3 inch more screen

          • @silenthillrocks: An fe has sd card capability?
I dont know why samsung brings this fe edition. Just give use all the feautures from yhe get go and Ill buy it. Dont take out sd card etc.

    • This seems like a REALLY good deal doesn't it?

      • S21 only has 2 more OS updates, S21FE has 4 left.

        • S21 has 3 left, check the HN deal for more info

S21FE is more expensive, with less RAM and slightly inferior cameras. Yes, it does have a bigger screen and larger battery.
However, neither is exactly that great in today's standard. Both cut corners in various ways.

Using software updates to justify the extra seems a bit of a stretch. The reality is if S21 at the current discounted price now is not a good buy, I doubt a more expensive S21FE is.

It doesn't matter how many OS updates you are going to get. Samsung locked features out on S21FE on software level (i.e. camera) intentionally. Obviously, those are mostly gimmicky features. You are going to tell me S21FE screen is really incapable of dynamic screen refresh rate? Seems like yet another software level lock Samsung did.

There are sites which indicate S21 also get 4 years worth of upgrades (with 1 already offered, so according to those, 3 left). Also, let's see if Samsung releases the updates for S21 and S21FE at the same time (or one of them gets released first). Samsung is never that great at releasing new OS updates very quickly so I don't see the hype of the extra software update(s).

          • @netsurfer: What makes the S21 not a good buy?

I mean, it's going for 150 bucks cheaper than the budget Pixel 6a will launch for next month.

@netsurfer: No custom ROMs is a deal breaker for the S21.

The FE was released this year not last, so will see an extra major upgrade.

  • I was tempted, but there seems to be a a high level of bad reviews, seems overheating and battery life on some were just broken?
Has anyone used one for a while?

    • +1

Reviews were written when the phone was $1000 so most complain about value. Now that price is coming down this device is more attractive.

      • +1

        $850 ‽ i call it a ripp off.
It should be more like $600 for brand new.

    • +1

Moved from a S21 Ultra to S21 FE and I am very satisfied. Paid just under $500 with trade in of old S10+ that I had lying around + $50 voucher for 256GB version.
Much thinner and lighter than the S21U. Battery life is actually quite good but I am running at 60Hz refresh. Slightly better than my S21U at 60Hz. I have a feeling that my S21U maybe had a slightly dud battery because it was definitely worse than my old S20FE for battery life.

The drawbacks of the S21FE are well known - no microSD, high price (without discount) but if you buy it at a decent price it's totally worth it. The difference between a FE and a premium flagship these days are really very small outside of a certain few specific use case scenarios like the S pen, and the 10x camera. It has gotten a very bad rep for the wrong price at launch which is a fair criticism but in itself is actually a very good phone.

I am disappointed though that it is only single physical sim, no second eSim which is available in Asian markets.

      • Great to hear your thoughts, was size the reason for switching from S21 Ultra to S21FE?

  • +1

Even cheaper $699 in Samsung education and EPP

  • There is one Used - Like New one on Amazon AU right now for $707.75

  • +1

These are now up to $894 and $888 respectively… the 128GB is more expensive than the 256GB.

    • White is still 788

    • Tempted to pull the trigger on the 256GB, do people think the price will come down much more than that? Been tossing up whether to go for the A73 or this one.

      • A73 at least has SD card expansion so don't need to splurge upfront on the storage

        • +1

Yeah true, to be honest I'm not that worried about storage since cloud - I was only going for the 256 model for the 8gb RAM as opposed to only 6gb on the 128.
