130

Hey guys, was looking for the dual boiler to go on sale. Missed out on Good Guys last sale but managed to snag this from HN. Dual boiler in Sesame. I know everyone is against buying from HN but a man gotta have his coffee.

Managed to set click and collect at Auburn. Should have plenty.

Smart grinder is on sale too:

Dual boiler is great but if you're a coffee snob, need something much better than the smart grinder. Best value for money (for electric) would probably be the Eureka Mignon.

You could possibly try a manual grinder like the 1zpresso jx pro and attach a small drill to it, or just manually grind if only making one cup mainly.

    • I have this set-up (BDB with 1zpresso JXpro) and it works a treat. Double shot only takes about 20 seconds to grind, and there's effectively zero retention in the grinder, so you're getting perfectly fresh grounds every time.

    • Is the Eureka really better? Is it 3 times the better grind since it's 3 X the price? I keep seeing it mentioned on OzB and haven't tried one but super curious

        Is the Eureka really better?

        Long story short - yes.

    • Different strokes for different folks, I love a good coffee so I have the BDB but I'm buying Aldi beans cause I'm a tightarse so no point getting a you beaut grinder.

Although I'm sure a better grinder would make the award winning beans taste even better.

An even better bargain than buying new is looking on marketplace and the like. Can pick up the BDB and smart grinder in good condition for cheap regularly.

      • Nothing wrong with aldi beans, I buy them when roast date is with 2-3 weeks (or earlier if possible)

      • Although I'm sure a better grinder would make the award winning beans taste even better.

A better grinder would make Aldi beans to taste better too. ;)

        • The Aldi beans are the award winning beans I’m referring to, so we are in fact saying the same thing

    • Thanks for the recommendation. I will cancel my smart grinder. Just purchased an Eureka Mignon Specilalita 55. What beans do you usually get?

    • I'd also recommend the Baratza Sette 270. I've been really happy with mine. Yes, it's loud. But it's fast and does a very consistent job.

Smart Grinder Pro was a good first grinder, but needed to upgrade to something better

      A coffee snob won't even consider a breville…

      • Plenty of good opinions amongst coffee snobs on the breville dual boiler mate.

The grinder on the other hand, not so much

JB were also running this price for a while I believe - i'm holding out for some better EOFY deals. If the DB drops down into the 800-850 bracket I might have to grab one.

Hopefully some eBay sales as well, I'm guessing lots of bargains to be had over the next few weeks.

  • Not a bad price for the Black - if colour is really important to someone.
I don't think JB or Good Guys, who generally have the better prices, do the black in the dual boiler. At least they didn't a few months ago when I bought mine.

  • I sometimes see a Dual Boiler as the BES920 and sometimes as a BES920XL.

Are these the same machine, just different markets?

  • Went to JB HiFi and show them this deal JB has match $999 no problemes and it's silver one instead of black just to give idea for people just want a standard silver bes920😁

  • I purchased one of these - my 3rd BES920 and I must say I was surprised by how shiny it is.

So, in comparison to the stainless model, the drip tray, "splashback" work area, and (I think also) rear of the machine are all bright chrome rather than stainless steel, the top, control area, front of the tray and sides are all gloss black.
I am not sure how long lasting the gloss will be though.

The only components missing out style wise with the "black sesame" theme are the unchanged water and steam knobs, which still use the silvery plastic of the original BES920.
The new look seems to fit well with the white/black DF64.

First coffee from it this morning and loving it.

  • Retravision have the silver for $998, and you can get 5% off with an RAC membership (can be got for free, search for it )
