This price is insane for a new relsease!

    • But it's just the drone right? No extra's

      • -1

        standard controller is included

        • No it isn't, says in the box just the drone

          • @FeZZa21: The EAN is 6941565929402, this refers to the controller variant. The RRP also backs this up. The no controller variant also isn't being released by DJI until July

            • @vodamerc: Yeah possibly, would still confirm with seller though

            • @vodamerc: So that looking good!
Usually it says with RC and also the price is usually $100 more so anything could come in the mail here…

          • @FeZZa21: I didn't think they sold drone only?

      • bring your own atmosphere

  • +1

Great price. Wonder how much it'll go down to by Black Friday.

    • +6

A couple of hundred feet I'd guess.

  • +1

Can someone explain or link to the restrictions on flying for this?
Is the fact its sub 250g means it can fly basically anywhere (within reason)?

    • yep you don't need it registered or a licence. Excellent hobby drone

      • So you need to register something like the Mavic?

      • +1

Caveat however being that if you intend on using it for business (real estate photography, etc) you need to get an aviation reference number, operator accreditation and register your drone - last I checked those things are all free however.

        https://www.casa.gov.au/drones/get-your-operator-credentials…

      • -5

Do you live in the US?? Over in Australia there are general CASA restrictions that apply to all drones. The DJI app will restrict anything in these zones

    • +7

      There's still plenty of restrictions:https://www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/drone-safety-rules
The big difference is that the 5.5km exclusion zone around airports / helipads no longer applies (so long as there aren't manned aircraft flying nearby).

      • +10

        Examples include:
        - Can't fly within 30m of people
        - Can't fly above people at any height
        - Max height restriction of about 120m
        - Can't fly over cars / houses
        - Can't be out of your eyesight
        - No national parks

Flying strictly to all these rules is harder than expected.

My general self-controlled rules when flying are:
        - Max height restriction (i've set it in the app to the max legal height, so never need to think about it, it is plenty high enough for 95% of what I want)
        - Don't annoy people with it, or fly close to them so they get the impression you are filming them
        - No national parks
        - Don't fly close to objects owned by other people
        - I'm not near any airport, but if I was I would add this to my list

When i'm flying, hardly anyone knows I am flying.

"Be sensible, don't act like a (profanity), and you'll most likely be OK".

        • +1

Flying in national parks is a state specific rule and regulated by national parks in said state, for example, you are allowed in QLD.

          • +2

@sanur: Oh, that's pretty cool, didn't know that. I assumed all National Parks in Australia were the same rules.

            • @ferguson: Yeah I'm thankful it's allowed in QLD, imo you should be able to capture footage with drones in nat parks in all states, it's a BS restriction. I'm of the opinion to use common sense and go about your day.

              • @sanur: I recently went down to Tas on holiday from Qld and was really disappointed that 90% of the interesting places we went were drone-free zones (half of the state is protected).
I can see why they do it, you feel a bit obnoxious flying them in touristy areas no matter how respectful you are and the animals would hate them.
But man it was a let down!

Side note, no drones signs on private property are an entirely different matter - they can ask you to leave but if you're following all other laws it's not illegal.

                • +3

@Ashmattic: But it is really annoying having your peaceful NP experience interrupted by the swarms of buzzing drones.

          • @sanur: Yeah…when last I checked there was no ban in ACT either (but it's only one national park).

        • Where does it say you can't fly over houses? I could never find that

          • @solidfruit: Generally it falls under the following two:
"- over or above people at any time or height"
"- in a way that creates a hazard to another person, property or aircraft"

It's not explicitly stated that you can't fly over other people's homes, but you'll generally be warned against it under the argument that if your drone goes down it could damage the property of others (ie damage someone's roof or things on their roof, in their backyard, etc).
Also you have no way of knowing whether someone will walk out into the open beneath your drone, at which point you're violating that first dot-point (and by "over or above" they explicitly define it as within 30m horizontally).

    • The main restriction on where you can fly tends to be local council or national park rules. A surprisingly large number of them ban drone use outright.

      • So true, I thought I’d fly mine along the cliffs south of bundeena but found I had to put in an application to NPs which looked unlikely.

Less than 250g used to give you more options under the rules but as comments say no real advantage now.

        • It's only really the 5.5km of controlled airports thing now. Plus being smaller helps with not getting busted if you do break the rules*.

*never break any rules relating to proximity to real aircraft. But can't see the hurt in flying in a national park if no one is around.

          • +1

@nigel deborah: Crazy how you need a permit for a national park. Also approval sometimes take at least one months.

          • +2

            @nigel deborah:

But can't see the hurt in flying in a national park if no one is around

There are some bird species (fairy terns for example) which will abandon their nests if disturbed and let their chicks die. A drone flying over them at the wrong time could cause a whole (endangered) bird population to fail to reproduce for a year.

Drones are fun and I like them but it's important to be aware that just because no humans are around doesn't mean no one will be disturbed.

            • @moph: Fair enough. What's the bird species? Genuinely curious. The justifications I'd seen in the past (think it was on the TAS parks website?) just talked about disturbing other (human) Park users.

              • @nigel deborah: Fairy terns are what I was describing
                https://www.birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/fairy-tern

I think they’re fairly extreme in how sensitive they are, but many other birds and other types of animals could be affected if the drone use was frequent enough. I know that wallabies and other mammals which have raptors as their main predators are quite sensitive to drones.

    • If you plan to buy the bigger battery this will then need to be registered as it will be over 250g

      • No registration requirement for recreational use below 2.5kg I believe. Just the airports thing.

        • Just double checked yeah you are correct only the 5.5km from an airport applies or unless for a business

    • The rules are as clear as mud.

I just got off the phone with CASA, and I'm honestly still just as confused.

The only thing I'm sure of is that you don't currently need to register a drone that weighs less than 250 grams, and that you can't be within a certain distance of airports.

  • No remote version?

  • -2

Just incase anyone doesn't realise, this doesn't come with the controller.

    • Yes it does.

      • My mistake.

    • Yeah I thought this initially, but RRP of $1199 would suggest it DOES come with the basic controller (no inbuilt screen)

    • +1

it definitely comes with the controller.. according to the ebay listing, EAN is 6941565929402

cross check that with CRK (DJI’s distributor) and you’ll find this listing with the complete info:

      1x DJI Mini 3 Pro
      1x DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller
1x DJI RC-N1 RC Cable (USB Type-C Connector)
1x DJI RC-N1 RC Cable (Lightning Connector)
1x DJI RC-N1 RC Cable (Standard Micro-USB Connector)
1x DJI Mini 3 Pro Intelligent Flight Battery
      1x Spare Propellers (Pair)
      1x Gimbal Protector
      1x Type-C to Type-C PD Cable
      1x Screwdriver
      6x Screws

      • +1

"In the Box" section for this listing says only DJI Mini 3 Pro. Better confirm with the vendor first as the remote controller does not appear anywhere in the listing.

        • +1

the EAN & RRP is all the confirmation you need. The no controller variant isn't due to release until July. If they don't supply that model they'll be getting it back.

      • The remote code matches this without screen!

        https://m.dji.com/au/product/mavic-air-2-remote-controller-m…

  • +1

Shame they don’t have any of the ones with the bundled RC remote with screen
    That’s the one I want☹️

    • Same

      • Why would you need the screen for? You won't be able to install third party apps.

        • +1

One less thing to have to worry about, hoping the remote won’t overheat like phones can when out in the sun or the auto dimming feature making phone screens hard to see

  • Waiting for Black Friday sale on this

  • This is crazy! Well worth it for anyone not sure. I took mine out to the beach today and the footage is crazy. I'm even considering selling my Air 2s…

    • +1

Is it that good compared to the Air 2s?

      • no, you can notice the difference with the sensor but the sound difference and convenience of carrying it with you is a big difference for me.

  • +1

how about the inbuilt screen version?

  • +1

I don't think this has the controller as it says contents of box are dji mini pro 3 no reference to the controller

    • Same can you please keep me posted. Thanks

    • +1

      at least you read :)

  • Bought it. I hope it comes with the controller with screen

    • +1

      it definitely won't.

    • +1

If it is the RC-N1 controller, that does NOT have a screen. You connect your smart phone to it via cable for the image.

  • Time to sell mini 2.

    • +3

Marketplaces are flooded with sad looking mini 2s lol

      • Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :(

      • Not as cheap as they should be yet though. People are still asking $700-750 for a mini 2 fly more packed second hand, which is steep since rrp is $950 now tops.

        • +1

They're dreaming, it's been under 800 new (with the combo)

  • Can you just buy that remote with screen separately?

  • -4

I'll fly mine to Russia and drop some nukes

    • -1

      Max range is 7km though

  • +1

I have tried ordering multiple photography items off DigiDirect's actual website and have been hit with "out of stock" alerts a day after sending payment. The first time it happened I thought nothing of it, then after spending the voucher they gave me as a compromise, the second order was out of stock!

After multiple months, I have either cancelled individual items on back order or they've slowly trickled through - admittedly covid supply chain issues are a factor, but still. Then I was chatting to a friend over lunch and they mentioned they were waiting on out of stock items at DigiDirect too! I couldn't believe it.

At the time, there was no indication on their website to suggest the items were OOS. Not saying my experience will be the same for everyone, but just FYI.

    • +6

This is my exact experience with Digidirect. Even when you chat with them to confirm there is stock they lie to you and tell you there's 1 in the warehouse. The next day your item is on backorder, and I just request a refund. I bet they are banking on people being too lazy to request a refund and just wait for backorders. I think its very unethical of them.

    • +2

I ordered a Fujifilm lens from them last year during Fujifilm's cashback promotion. It took more than 5 months and a couple of emails before it arrived. They also wouldn't update you until or unless you asked them what's going on with your order. Not much of an apology from them either, just kept saying supplier issues. Was a loyal customer before but I'm very wary shopping there now.

      • +1

I just cancelled another item with them today; in their defense they have been sending me an email every 3-4 weeks saying "we still don't have an ETA".

    • My old workplace ordered a gimbal (amongst about 10K worth of gear) and we were chasing them up about it every few days to get all the standard responses. Meanwhile, someone we knew walked into one of the Sydney stores and bought the exact same model off the shelf

Another time I ordered some light tubes from them, they were an item that was on backorder in several places but it took about 4 months while others had stock in 1 month.

DigiDirect can be good as I've bought a bunch of other stuff there but if it's out of stock you're taking a gamble

    • Yeah digidirect will drag it out, most people end up cancelling unless they're happy to wait some ridiculous amount of time.

  • Not surprised - OOS

  • Dame….Missed it

  • can someone tell me, with this weight, can you fly in Sydney area, e.g, operate house etc

    • No you can't

      • Thanks, that a pity

    • You can't fly anywhere in Aus with people around. They even ban National Park. We don't really have a suitable drone law for recreation

      • Yeah this is what stopping me buying one right now. Which is a shame because I really wanted one and also would love to use it on Holiday too.

        • Some practice and common sense should be enough to fly drones for recreation. As long as you don't do anything stupid and are not too close to properties and people, nobody would ever tell you off. DJI drones are pretty reliable if you calibrate them every single fly

          • @legelas: Won't the DJI geofencing prevent you from even taking off, if it detects you're in a legally restricted area? Not challenging you, just wondering how extensive that feature is.

            • @y2k: I'd love to be challenged. I love drone technologies so correct me if i'm wrong. In response to your comment, it depends on how well DJI update their database (Geofencing various based on firmware version). I could fly a phantom 3 anywhere I wanted 3 years ago, from national parks, and urban areas to within 5kms of a helipad. I don't have time to fly around anymore plus phantom is too big to carry around unnoticed. It could change now. noted: I used Litchi most of the time

  • +1

Need a deal for cheaper drone

  • +2

    Did anyone receive it yet?
What's the go with the remote?
