TPG uses VODA, not that great in speeds and consistency.
Telstra the way to go if possible.

IF you have no other option, then use this.

That's not the get a free month attitude

      • +4

lol not worth it for a month

        • I haven't paid for internet in about 4 months with 3 different companies @100mbps. So yes. 1 month at a time is worth it.

  • Has anyone had any experience with gaming on 5G and willing to share their experience? I've tried gaming on 4G in the past and the latency / packet loss meant it was just not worth it. Media streaming works fine on 4G though.

I play rocket league on Telstra 5G, haven't noticed a difference except for around 9:30pm there are some weird lag spikes and then it is fine. Can't say I can tell the difference besides an increase of 20ms from 12 ms to around 30-38ms

on this is bad, ping atrocious, and im in the heart of parramatta, where they released it
I stuck with it though, only because our building can't even get NBN hahahahah
its the best i could get, telstra 5G though is amazing!

      • im in the heart of parramatta

That could be the problem. I know with 4g, it's highly dependent on number of users.

    • Thank you guys for the feedback - looks like it's probably still a case by case situation. Will have to try it to find out.

    • Depends on your location i guess. Telstra 5G sucked at my location even for streaming services…

Optus 5G is decent, ping goes from 20-30 to about 40-60 but crazy speeds in my area around 1gb. Signed up when it was 70p/m

    • Why is ping so bad? I used to get 15-20ms on 4g, now close to 1ms on nbn.

      • +3

Because it is fully wireless to the exchange/tower unlike NBN which is fully wired to the exchange/tower

        • When 5g came out they were claiming zero or near zero latency. Being wireless shouldn't be a bottleneck.

ETA 5g was being pushed as 1ms latency

  • Is it better to go 5G or NBN?

    • honestly just go with whatever is cheaper.

      Going with 5G benefit is
you dont have to wait for current NBN provider contract to end or connection to stop to switch over. You need to wait for modem delivery though.

5G can technically get faster speeds, especially for price you are paying (uncapped plans aka non vodafone networks or those who signed up on grandfathered unlimited 5G uncapped plan @ $85/month or half of that $42.49 (on Black Friday deal like me). I pay $42.49, and can technically get uncapped 5G but generally speeds are like 150-240 Mbps down. compare that to telstra of 660 Mbps down.

5G can sometimes drop out when it's like a real real storm thunder etc. So be prepared for that very minor outage.

Going with 5G you'll also need modem ( and pay for the 5G modem (which aint cheap) if you dont return it at cancellation)

Ultimately personally I am quite glad I hooped over to 5G, come at December will need to decide to stay or leave Vodafone 5G, since wont be getting discounted at $42.49.

not available at my address, in metro Sydney.
anyone got a map of areas where you could actually get this?

  • +1

    5G 404..

  • I have had 2 emails, 2 text messages and now 2 calls from TPG about changing to this, bloody annoying.

  • This product is not available at your address.

  • Tried it.. Was so bad, we returned it and went back to nbn. Drop outs and really slow speeds.
    Location: near Camden, NSW

    • Did the same thing with my Telstra 5G

      Was hopeless

  • Is this same as the iiNet offer ?

Do tpg own iinet so this would mean same network ?

  • Mental note. Remember to return modem

    • **In good working condition

  • Note that the 5g modem supplied by tpg - sagemcom 5866t is the pretty bad. Sad excuse as a modem and buggy software.

  • GF had a week trial for free.
We stopped using it after day 1 (no reception issues, speeds were fine but latency was a horrible, couldn't be on video calls, gaming was fkt too). This is with the tower literally being in line of site of her place in Parra).
